LEGO Fortnite Guide: LEGO Fortnite For Dummies

Intro

LEGO Fortnite can be found next to the other new collaboration game modes, Rocket Racing, and Fortnite Festival. Upon selecting the new brick game mode, players will have to create a world or select a shared world. Players are able to join worlds hosted by friends using dedicated servers under shared world menu. To utilize dedicated servers in your own world you first have to create it.

Creating a LEGO Fortnite World

Upon selecting ‘Create New World’ and you will be asked to enable any desired survival features. These features will be familiar to those who have played games like ARK Survival Evolved or Minecraft. Every feature is enabled by default excluding friendly damage, the ability to harm your teammates and fellow villagers.

When choosing to create a LEGO Fortnite world, players are presented with a choice between Survival and Sandbox. Players who have played Minecraft‘s creative mode will be familiar with sandbox worlds and their creativity based game play. Survival employs multiple features to make LEGO Fortnite more challenging and combat based.

While I recommend leaving all features enabled, some may find the list daunting. For those looking for a more relaxed gameplay, you will benefit disabling harder survival features such as temperature. Below are the aforementioned features and how they will affect your game play if you choose to disable them.

Survival Features

  1. Hunger – Players have a hunger meter found in the top left corner of their screen. By disabling hunger players will no longer need to eat to survive. You may still consume food for immediate HP and added effects with hunger disabled.
  2. Enemies – All foes will be removed from your world. Enemies provide essential ingredients for crafting so do not disable this if you would like to progress your equipment and village.
  3. Temperature – By disabling temperature in LEGO Fortnite players will not be hindered by weather.
  4. Stamina – Stamina affects your ability to sprint, glide, and swim. By disabling Stamina you can utilize all of these features indefinitely.
  5. Elimination – Disabling Elimination will make the player invulnerable to damage and allow you to enjoy survival features without the fear of death.
  6. Drop Inventory Upon Elimination – Keep your possessions when dying by disabling this feature similar to Minecraft‘s keep inventory option.
  7. Friendly Creatures – Removes animals such as sheep, cows, and chickens from your world when disabled. Makes recipes more difficult to source ingredients for.
  8. Friendly Damage – Keeping friendly damage disabled will prohibit you from damaging any friends or villagers.
  9. Villagers – Disabling Villagers will not allow you to invite villagers even after upgrading your village.

Dedicated Servers

After creating your world you are now able to utilize dedicated servers for free and allow your friends to join your world – even when you are offline. You can invite your players to your dedicated server using four easy steps. Note that you’re only allowed a certain amount of invite keys and one will be used for each player added to your LEGO Fortnite world.

  1. Open map menu.
  2. Select Players in the top right corner
  3. Select Invite Players.
  4. Select any friend you wish to invite.

Biomes

There are four biomes found within LEGO Fortnite. With each featuring native mob variants, foods, and crafting materials. The biomes feature a differing level of difficulty and will harness weather to thwart your survival. With a recent update, players are able to set up base in any biome they desire. Just beware of bone chilling temperatures!

Grasslands

The Grasslands are where you will spawn and considered to be the friendliest biome. Enemies found in the Grasslands are of the easiest difficulty to defeat. Within early game, it is recommended for players to establish their first base within the Grasslands. Players will not need charms to survive the temperature of the Grasslands making it very alluring.

Animals such as sheep, cows, and chicken can be found in the within the grassy biome. In addition to animals, wood can be located in the Grasslands by chopping down trees. Though tools and structures progress to be crafted with other materials than wood, it remains an essential resource for building structures.

The Grasslands are the most peaceful LEGO Fortnite biome, making it a great place to call home.

Dry Valley

The Dry Valley presents challenges to explorers with its harsh conditions. Players must watch out for scorching daytime temperatures and chilly nights. To harvest Flexwood, they need a rare tier (blue) axe or better to cut native cacti. Amber can be found atop desert mountains, requiring an uncommon pickaxe. By using a combination of equipment and consumables, players can search for these materials without risking harm. Below, you’ll find charms and food items that offer Heat Resistance.

Malachite can be found atop the Frostland’s mountains. You will need at least one Inner-Fire Charm and the help of Snow Berries to survive the harsh cold while seeking the new ore. Note that many players often go in search of a purple ore due to the icons hue but Malachite is in fact a dark green ore. This end game ore can be used to craft some of the best charms found in the game, including the Epic Cool Headed Charm.

Shore

The Shore is a tropical biome found on the edge of large bodies of water. This sandy biome is less daunting than the dry valley as its temperature is very similar to the Grasslands. It is also the only biome not to feature caves. With the beautiful scenery and pleasant temperature, the Shore is a great biome to set up your LEGO Fortnite village. Be cautious as Brutes are still capable of spawning in the oceanside biome.

Caves

Each biome except the Shore is home to caves featuring exclusive materials. Caves appear as a round rocky entrance, it is only their inside that differs in appearance and contents. When a player has passed closely by a cave, it will be marked on the map making it easy to return. They must be explored in a progressive game play loop due to the tools required for harvesting their contents.

It can be difficult remembering where to find cave materials and which tools are necessary for collection. I have provided a list of the cave exclusive material locations and which tools you will need to harvest them.

  • Grasslands Caves: Contains Marble and Knotroot – Common Pickaxe and Axe Required.
  • Dry Valley Caves: Contains Rough Copper, Obsidian, Brightcore, Rough Ruby – Rare Pickaxe Required.
  • Frostlands Caves: Contains Raw Iron and Rough Sapphire – Epic Pickaxe Required.

Building

Building in LEGO Fortnite is a breeze. By selecting the return key on console or ‘Q’ on keyboard, players are presented with a crafting menu allowing them to build crafting stations, furniture, decorations, structures, and even design their own vehicles known as toys. Building structures is made very easy by using preset builds found in the crafting menu.

Preset builds utilize snap-to-build to make replicas of Fortnite Battle Royale structures. To find preset builds, open the crafting menu, and select the blueprint menu. The icon is a house on a sheet of paper. When viewing builds, players are presented with the amount of materials it will cost them complete it. By increasing your village level, you unlock more intricate builds.

More creative players can move to the Building Parts menu. Found directly to the right of the Builds menu, the icon is a house. Where you will find stairs, also an essential building part for harvesting some materials found within caves.

Crafting Stations

Manufacturing equipment, cooking food, enchantments, and more are made possible via the Crafting Stations. Crafting stations can be accessed within the crafting menu. Dynamic Foundations are used to create vehicles by attaching thrusters paired with balloons or wheels. You can attach an Activation Switch to the Dynamic Foundation allowing you to activate the thrusters and begin moving. The LEGO Fortnite community has been creating plenty of vehicles you can replicate in your own world.

Upgrading Your Village

Upgrading your village is an important step in furthering your LEGO Fortnite adventure and upgrading your builds. You will even be able to invite villagers to live with you and work and collect resources for you. To begin leveling up your village you must first build a Village Square within the Crafting Menu using 10 Granite and 10 wood. Each village level will require you add a certain amount of structures within the village perimeter to progress.

In addition to the building requirement, you will be asked to provide a donation of requested materials for each level. While some materials requested to upgrade your village may seem daunting, their locations are covered within the biomes and caves section. Inviting villagers once you have provided your first donation is as simple as speaking to them when they are visiting your village and assigning them to a free bed.

Prepare for Enemies

LEGO Fortnite enemies are not only challenging, but useful. By incorporating enemy loot into recipes, Epic Games has made battle an integral part in upgrading even your village. Enemies found within different biomes drop unique loot and vary in difficulty. Factions of enemies like Bandits and Dummies can be found within ruined bases and setting up campfires to keep warm. Upon elimination faction enemies can drop cooked food and even dynamite.

Wolves, Rollers, and Brutes are the truly challenging enemies, sheerly due to their sand and frost biome variants. These enemies will drop the same loot, but at an increasing rarity that matches their biome. With the Frostlands being the current end game biome, Frost Rollers, Frost Wolves, and specifically Frost Brutes, are truly relentless enemies.

Brutes

Brute Scales are required to upgrade your Crafting Bench to Epic. After locating or defeating a Brute you can expect to continually to find them in that location. Brute Scales are required to upgrade your Crafting Bench to Epic. Brutes are the only current bosses in LEGO Fortnite but easy to defeat with a few tips:

  1. Use a bow for consistent long-range damage.
  2. Dodge when Brutes long-range attack is approaching you.
  3. Do not stand in the green puddles left behind by attacks.
  4. Fight Brutes during the day to avoid cross-combat.
  5. Bring food with large HP bonus that does not take long to consume. (Snowberry Shakes are fantastic)

Equipment Progression

To enhance your equipment, you must collect better resources and level up your crafting bench. The crafting bench can be upgraded by entering the crafting bench and selecting Bench Upgrade. Each level progression will require the player to provide the requested materials. By upgrading your bench you will be capable of crafting the equivalent rarity in equipment.

  • Uncommon Bench Upgrade – 8 Planks, 3 Shells
  • Rare Bench Upgrade – 21 Knotroot Rods, 15 Marble Slabs, 6 Sand Claws, 3 Sand Shells
  • Epic Bench Upgrade – 15 Copper Bars, 25 Obsidian Slabs, 1 Brute Scale

To progress weapons and tools to the highest possible levels, players will also be required to gather all cave/biome specific materials at some point. Due to inadequate strength you are not able to use tools of lower rarity to destroy materials of a higher rarity. This means it is impossible to upgrade from Common straight to Epic gear. Players must follow the upgrade path from start to finish to enjoy higher rarity weapons and tools.

Farming

Farming allows you to have a steady food source instead of foraging for food. Utilizing farming you will be able to grow native foods like Slap Berries, Snow Berries, and Spicy Peppers, all within the same biome. By having all these foods growing at your base, temperature management is a breeze. (Pun intended!)

Crops

To begin farming you want to craft a shovel. Farming eliminates the need to travel to other biomes for food. After crafting a shovel, left click on dirt or grass to collect soil. While collecting soil there is a chance of being surprised with seeds too. By upgrading your shovel you collect more dirt at once and increase the chance of rarer surprises.

You must then collect Fertilizer by collecting animal poop. Animals will poop after a few minutes of wandering. After collecting Fertilizer you can craft a Garden Plot with 2 Soil and 1 Fertilizer in your crafting menu. In the Crafting Station page you can find Garden Plots by selecting the last option. To use your garden plot, place it, and open it. You can open the Garden Plot the same way a chest is accessed.

Once accessing the Garden Plot’s storage, you may place any crop seed inside. Crops take around 10 minutes to fully grow and can be harvested when approached. There are only 7 seeds in LEGO Fortnite as of now. Some crops leave a plant that is continuously harvestable whereas others require replanting. The plants that require replanting are wheat, corn, and pumpkins.

Animals

If a you approach a Chicken, Sheep, or Cow be sure to pet it. Eggs, Wool, and Milk drop depending on the animal and can be used within Crafting Stations. Chickens drop feathers and every animal drops meat when they are eliminated. Use this to cook Steak and Spicy Burgers at your grill. Players are able to lead animals by leaving trails of harvested crops. Be sure to remember that animals are prone to being attacked by enemies at night.
