Overwatch 2 Will Feature Unlockable Heroes

A recent leak regarding Overwatch 2 reveals unlockable heroes. Long gone are the days of having the full roster at your disposal, as on October 4th, you'll be earning new playable characters through the upcoming Battle Pass system.

Overwatch 2 Will Feature Unlockable Heroes

In a recent update on the Overwatch 2 Battle Pass system, unlockable heroes have been confirmed. On the current version of the game, all heroes are instantly free for all players. Games like SMITE and Paladins require you to unlock characters through in-game currency. So, what does this mean for the FPS’ long-awaited sequel?

We all know by now how the Battle Pass system functions in free-to-play games. There’s a free version of the pass with fewer rewards, and then the paid version, with more rewards. In Overwatch 2, unlockable heroes will be earned within the Battle Pass. Luckily, a member of the Overwatch team put players’ minds at rest regarding this. You can unlock new heroes with the free version of the pass. This means that heroes will not be locked behind a paywall.

When the leaked image shown above spread across Twitter, players were not happy. This reads as though players in Overwatch 2 will require a Premium Battle Pass to gain access to unlockable heroes. Though, as discussed earlier, this is not the case. We can also see that in this leak, the new fox support hero is named Kiriko.

With all of these leaks and new information circling around, it’s hard not to be excited for the return of Overwatch, even with unlockable heroes. What do you think of this new system? Are you looking forward to earning your characters, or would you prefer to have them from the start?
