Overwatch’s First Queer Character Revealed

Overwatch's first queer character has been revealed in the games' official comic series, revolving around how mascot Tracer races around London to find the perfect gift for her partner.

Overwatch’s First Queer Character Revealed

Blizzard has revealed the first queer character in its popular multiplayer team-based shooter Overwatch via a new comic celebrating the holidays, titled “Reflections.”

The comic, which focuses on how the speedy Tracer races through the snow in order to find the perfect gift for her partner, reveals the character’s orientation during a scene in which lover Emily gives her hero a kiss in return for a scarf. The pair then take to Winston the gorilla’s house for a holiday dinner.

Quite sweet in scope, the news comes after Blizzard has teased that there are indeed multiple queer characters in the game. Seeing as how Tracer is featured prominently in the title’s promotional materials, including its cover art, the move seems like a step in the right direction for members of both the queer community and the industry as a whole.

Overwatch was named Game of the Year during The Game Awards earlier this month and currently has a holiday event underway, introducing new Christmas-themed skins, emotes, and highlight intros for almost every character in the game. It’s available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
