Things You Need to Know About Genshin Impact: Dragonspine

With Dragonspine entering the colorful world of Teyvat, this poses a question as to what things we should be wary of in the new wintery region. Lucky for you, this guide is made to lay out the things that might be noteworthy for everyone stepping into the snowy lands for the first time!

Things You Need to Know About Genshin Impact: Dragonspine Cover

With patch 1.2 safely arriving at the shores of Genshin Impact, we’re met with the new zone called Dragonspine. This zone welcomes us with new mechanics such as sheer cold and new monsters that have adapted to the harsh, cold climate that the new zone has in store. Dragonspine also introduces us to a new story quest, the Frostbearing Tree, and lots of exciting events. With all of that being said, here are some of the things you need to be aware of in the new zone!

If you’re in the mood for more articles such as these, I present you with these ones!

1. It’s cold in here!

Sheer Cold

Sheer Cold

The first thing that we’re greeted with is a new bar that shows up above our HP as you can see in the picture. That bar measures the “coldness” your characters are feeling and if that bar reaches its maximum capacity, your characters start to lose HP periodically. That’s why my first tip when exploring or tackling this new zone is to never AFK randomly out there as it’s a sure way to get your characters killed. Of course, there are ways to manage the bar. One of those is to stand near warp portals, a statue of the seven, a torch, or a warming seelie (or however it’s called) to name a few. These stuff produce heat that will rapidly decrease the coldness bar and keep you in the fight for much longer. However, some activities increase the accumulation of coldness such as swimming and getting caught in a blizzard. So always keep the blue bar in mind!

2. New Monsters!

As said above, Dragonspine has a very harsh climate. So what has become of the monsters there? They’ve also adapted. In this zone, you’ll never see the brown hillichurls you see in Liyue and parts of Mondstadt. Everyone is either dressed warmly or has evolved into a monster that can deal with the cold. New elite enemies are also introduced such as the Frostarm Lawachurl (the cryo counterpart of the stone hide.), Ruin Graders (the cooler Ruin Guard), and the Cryo Cicin Mage (the hotter Cicin Mage). These new elite enemies differ slightly from their normal counterparts but their weaknesses are similar so you won’t feel alienated when fighting them.

3. Frostbearing Tree

The Frostbearing Tree acts the same as the statues of the seven all-around Teyvat, in the sense that you run around collecting stuff and offering it to the tree for rewards. For the statues, you collect oculi, for this one you collect Crimson Agates. The best way to unlock The Frostbearing Tree is through the story quest. To start the quest, go to Mondstadt and you’ll notice that Timeus (the guy standing behind the Crafting Bench in Mondstadt) is replaced by the lovely girl Sucrose. Talk to her to start the quest. The tree offers generous rewards such as talent ascension materials, acquaint and intertwined fates, and a new wind glider.

4. New Artifact Sets

Here’s an interesting one, new artifact sets! This time they introduce the much-awaited Icebreaker and Ocean Conqueror set. I believe that this new artifact will change some core builds for some characters. One that pops into mind is a DPS Mona build can now be a little more viable with Ocean Conqueror coming into play. Icebreaker can be beneficial for Diona or Ganyu (an upcoming character). These new artifacts opens up theory crafting again and for sure, you’ll see your favorite YouTubers try them out and say their opinions and what builds they think will change.

With all of that being said, I hope you learned something from this article. Take care when exploring Dragonspine and be like Elsa! Get it? ‘Cause the cold never bothered her anyway? Alright, I’ll see myself out.
