Who is Raiden Shogun from Genshin Impact?
Raiden Shogun is a 5-star character and is the revered God of Eternity, who rules the entire nation of Inazuma.
Only through Eternity are you closest to the Heavenly Principles. Lightning is eternal, the world is but shadow. Fantasy can only survive with an underlying reality. Reality is the stillness buried deep beneath the illusion. This… is Eternity.
Raiden Shogun: Judgement of Euthymia
For the past 500 years, she did not rule her nation, as she delegates that role to her puppet. Instead, she contemplated within her realm, the Plane of Euthymia, hoping to find the answer she’s been looking for. Nevertheless, outside of that, she’s pretty caring and has a rather calm and soft attitude toward those she is fond of.
How to Get Raiden Shogun
Since Raiden Shogun is a unique 5-star character, she can only appear on the Event Wish Banner. Unfortunately, that also means that she’s unavailable outside of her banners.
She first appeared during Version 2.1, and this will be her third appearance in the Event Wish Banner.
- Reign of Serenity (Raiden Shogun’s Banner, first appearance): September 1, 2021 – September 21, 2021.
- Reign of Serenity (Raiden Shogun’s Banner, first re-run): March 8, 2022 – March 29, 2022.
- Reign of Serenity (Raiden Shogun’s Banner, second re-run): December 27, 2022 – January 17, 2023.
Raiden Shogun Level-Up Resources
To build your Raiden Shogun to Level 90, you must prepare these Ascension Materials:
- Vajrada Amethyst (Electro)
- Amakumo Fruit (Inazuma Specialty)
- Handguards (Enemy Drop from Nobushi and Kairagi)
- Storm Beads (World Boss)
Vajrada Amethyst is the gemstone crucial for Raiden Shogun’s ascension. Amethyst is the Electro variant of the Gemstone, and you usually find them after you defeat Electro-based Bosses, such as the Thunder Manifestation, the Electro Hypostasis, and one of the Weekly Bosses, Azhdaha. Raiden Shogun will need 1 Sliver, 9 Fragments, 9 Chunks, and 6 Gemstones.
Raiden Shogun’s next material is Amakumo Fruit, an Inazuma Specialty that you can find exclusively on Seirei Island. To level up your Raiden Shogun to 90, you’ll need a minimum of 168 Amakumo Fruits. The Teyvat Interactive Map can help you locate this material faster.
Handguards are also essential for building Raiden Shogun, and you can get them after defeating the Nobushis and Kairagis within the Inazuma region. Their drop rate is slightly lower than other materials, so proceed while keeping this in mind. In total, Raiden Shogun needs 18 Old Handguards, 30 Kageuchi Handguards, and 36 Famed Handguards.
Lastly, Raiden Shogun needs Storm Beads for her Ascension. This is a World Boss material that you can earn from the Thundering Manifestation in Inazuma. You can find this boss in Seirei Island’s highest mountain peak. The boss relies on Electro-based attacks, and it can fly in multiple directions to disrupt your combos. You will need 46 Storm Beads to raise Raiden Shogun to Level 90.
As usual, you’ll need to prepare 420,000 Mora and 416 Hero’s Wit EXP Books to fully ascend your Raiden Shogun.
Raiden Shogun’s Abilities Overview
As an Electro Polearm character, Raiden Shogun uses her spear to cut down her enemies. Raiden Shogun’s role in the team is versatile, and she can also fit into any team composition.
Her Normal Attack is Origin, where she unleashes up to 5 consecutive spear strikes against the enemies. As for her Charged Attack, she will consume some Stamina to perform an upward slash.
As for her Elemental Skill, she has Transcendence: Baleful Omen, where Raiden Shogun unveils a shard of her Euthymia, dealing Electro DMG to nearby opponents, and granting nearby party members the Eye of Stormy Judgment. This effect allows the Eye to unleash a coordinated attack with other characters in your team.
Lastly, Raiden Shogun’s Elemental Burst is called Secret Art: Musou Shinsetsu, where she unleashes the Musou no Hitachi and deals AoE Electro DMG. After that, Raiden Shogun enters the Musou Isshin state, where she will wield her tachi in battle, while her Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attacks will be infused with Electro DMG, which cannot be overridden.
Moreover, while in this state, the Raiden Shogun’s resistance to interruption is increased, and she is immune to the Electro-Charged reaction DMG. During Musou Isshin state, the Raiden Shogun’s Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attack DMG will be considered Elemental Burst DMG.
Raiden Shogun’s Passives
As for Raiden Shogun’s Passive abilities, she has the following:
- Wishes Unnumbered allows Raiden Shogun’s Chakra Desiderata to gain 2 Resolve stacks when nearby party members gain Elemental Orbs or Particles. This effect can occur once every 3s.
- Enlightened One gives Raiden Shogun certain bonuses when her Energy Recharge is above 100%: Every 1% of Energy Recharge beyond that grants 0.6% greater Energy restoration from Musou Isshin and 0.4% Electro DMG Bonus.
- All-Preserver decreases Mora you expend when ascending Swords and Polearms by 50%.
After you get to know Raiden Shogun’s kits, it’s time to figure out her Talents priority for your build:
- Secret Art: Musou Shinsetsu: Raiden Shogun’s Elemental Burst is super strong, being able to dish out tons of damage, while also recharging Energy for herself and her team. You should prioritize this Talent over the other two.
- Transcendence: Baleful Omen: Raiden Shogun’s Elemental Skill adds a wonderful bonus to the team through the Eye of the Stormy Judgement effect, so you should make this the second priority after the Elemental Burst.
- Origin: Raiden Shogun rarely benefits from her Normal Attack, so this Talent should be put as your least priority when leveling up her Talents.
Raiden Shogun’s Talent Ascension Materials are the Light Series (Teachings of Light, Guide to Light, and Philosophies of Light), Handguards, and Molten Moment (La Signora/Narukami Island: Tenshukaku Weekly Boss material).
Now that you understand how Raiden Shogun works, it’s time to talk about her builds. As a versatile Polearm user, Raiden Shogun can use several weapons.
The Ideal Choice
The best weapon option for Raiden Shogun is the Engulfing Lightning spear.
Engulfing Lightning is a 5-star polearm that you can get from Epitome Invocation Wish. This weapon increases Energy Recharge by 55.1% and has 608 ATK at Level 90. The spear’s unique skill is Timeless Dream: Eternal Stove, which increases ATK by 28% of Energy Recharge over the base of 100%. The maximum ATK bonus you can gain is 80%.
Moreover, Engulfing Lightning provides a 30% Energy Recharge for 12 seconds after you cast an Elemental Burst. This spear is perfect for Raiden Shogun, who needs as much Energy Recharge as she can get, while also increasing her damage output.
What if you don’t have Engulfing Lightning? Don’t worry! Raiden Shogun has many substitute weapons for her build in Genshin Impact.
Although Engulfing Lightning is her Best-in-Slot weapon, there are other weapons that can replace the spear, such as The Catch and Primordial Jade Winged-Spear.
Primordial Jade Winged-Spear is a 5-star spear that you can get from Epitome Invocation Wish and Standard Banner. It has 22.1% CRIT Rate and 674 ATK at Level 90, giving Raiden Shogun some nice damage-oriented bonuses. Its unique skill, Eagle Spear of Justice, grants ATK% bonus for every hit that connects, which can stack 7 times and lasts for 6 seconds. Overall, a great Main DPS-oriented for Raiden, but the trade-off is the lack of an Energy Recharge attribute in the weapon.
Another option for your Raiden Shogun’s build is The Catch, one of the best free-to-play weapons in the game. You can get this from Inazuma’s Fishing Association, and its stats are good for a 4-star spear. However, the real deal of this weapon is its unique skill, Shanty, which increases Elemental Burst DMG by 16% and Elemental Burst CRIT Rate by 6%. Raiden Shogun will benefit from this weapon greatly since she needs her Burst to truly shine.
Best Artifact for Raiden Shogun
When choosing an Artifact Set for Raiden Shogun, there’s only one that synergizes extremely well with her: Emblem of Severed Fate.
The 2-piece bonus from this set will net a 20% Energy Recharge for Raiden Shogun, which suits Raiden Shogun really well since she needs all Energy Recharge she can get. Moreover, the 4-piece bonus of Emblem of Severed Fate increases Elemental Burst DMG by 25% of Energy Recharge, and a maximum of 75% bonus DMG can be obtained in this way. Now, this means that the higher Energy Recharge Raiden Shogun has, the higher her Elemental Burst damage output will be.
Overall, Raiden Shogun’s optimal Artifact Set is the Emblem of Severed Fate, thanks to its Energy Recharge-centered buffs. Not to mention the increase to her Elemental Burst DMG is substantial in helping her deal more damage to her enemies.
There aren’t any other Artifact Sets that provide optimal stats and bonuses for Raiden Shogun, however, you can try using 2-piece Emblem of Severed Fate and 2-piece Thundering Fury, which will give +20% Energy Recharge and +15% Electro DMG respectively.
To make Raiden Shogun someone who befits her title as an Archon, here are the stats you must look out for when creating a build for Raiden Shogun:
- Energy Recharge%
- Electro DMG
- CRIT Rate / CRIT DMG
Since Raiden Shogun is quite intricate when it comes to her desirable stats, there are several things to think about. If you wish to make her your Main DPS for the team, then prioritize getting CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG, especially in your Circlet artifact. The next in line would be Electro DMG, so you should always find a Goblet with Electro DMG as its Main Stat.
If you’re intending to play her as a Support Battery, then find as many Energy Recharge% as you can in all 5 artifacts. Next up is Electro DMG, since she’ll always need this stat no matter what her role on the team is. Lastly, find a comfortable CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG ratio to accompany the other two stats, so that her Elemental Burst can give maximum output.
Best Raiden Shogun Team Compositions
These team compositions will have Raiden Shogun fulfilling different roles on the team, depending on the composition. We will provide several team options, and one of them will be a Budget Team, which is a F2P-friendly team (of course, Raiden Shogun excluded).
This team consists of Raiden Shogun, Eula, Rosaria, and Zhongli.
For this team, Eula will act as the Main DPS, while Raiden Shogun acts as the Sub-DPS/Support. The star of this team is Eula, in which her Elemental Burst, Glacial Illumination, is the main source of damage. By utilizing the Superconduct reaction, which will decrease the enemies’ Physical RES by 40%, the Raiden Shogun-Eula pair is a match made in heaven.
Rosaria acts as a secondary Cryo presence on the field when Eula’s Burst is in cooldown. Moreover, her Elemental Burst, Rites of Termination, gives the entire team (except Rosaria herself) a 15% of Rosaria’s CRIT Rate for 10s, providing a decent amount of CRIT Rate to both Eula and Raiden Shogun.
Lastly, Zhongli is here as the Shielder, providing a safe environment for Eula and Raiden Shogun to do their magic. To top it off, make sure you equip the 4-piece Tenacity of the Millelith so that all party members gain a temporary ATK bonus whenever Zhongli’s Elemental Skill, Dominus Lapidis, hits an enemy.
This team consists of Raiden Shogun, Sangonomiya Kokomi, Nahida, and Yelan.
For this team, Raiden Shogun will once again act as a Sub-DPS/Support for the team, providing the Electro presence to support the Bloom reaction from the other characters. For this composition, she only needs to focus on casting her Elemental Skill, providing the Eye of Stormy Judgement effect for the team.
Meanwhile, Nahida is here to provide the team with Dendro presence, by utilizing her Elemental Skill, All Schemes to Know, and her Elemental Burst, Illusory Heart, so that the team’s Hyperbloom reaction process goes more smoothly.
Yelan acts as another Sub-DPS for the team, by providing continuous Hydro attack off-field which reacts with Dendro element from Nahida to trigger Bloom which produces cores.
The main star of this team is Sangonomiya Kokomi, by utilizing her Normal Attack and Elemental Skill to create the Dendro Cores provided by Nahida’s Elemental Skill, to trigger the Hyperbloom reaction.
This team consists of Raiden Shogun, Xingqiu, Bennett, and Xiangling.
Surprisingly, the Budget Team, also known as Raiden National Team, is one of her strongest compositions.
Xingqiu is our Hydro applier, as well as one of the Sub-DPS of the team. By using both his Elemental Skill, Guhua Sword: Fatal Rainscreen, and his Elemental Burst, Guhua Sword: Raincutter, Xingqiu can attach Hydro element to enemies continuously, and so react with Raiden Shogun’s Electro DMG to trigger Electro-Charged reaction.
Xiangling will be here as the second Sub-DPS and Pyro applier. Her Elemental Skill, Guoba Attack, can attack nearby enemies while dealing Pyro on them. Meanwhile, Pyronado, her Elemental Burst, grants the team a consistent Pyro presence for 8 seconds, giving way for Raiden Shogun to deal damage through her Elemental Burst combos.
The next one on this team is Bennett. He’s acting as a Healer/Support that can heal up your characters, as well as giving bonus ATK when standing inside his Elemental Burst, Fantastic Voyage.
Finally, Raiden Shogun acts as the Main DPS for the team, since Bennett, Xiangling, and Xingqiu have given their buffs and Elemental Reactions for Raiden Shogun to enjoy. Once they unleashed their Skill and Burst, Raiden Shogun will finish off the enemies using her Elemental Burst, Secret Art: Musou Shinsetsu.
And those are the steps you’ll need to build your Raiden Shogun in Genshin Impact.
