Version 3.1 New Characters and Event Wishes

Version 3.1 is set to introduce 3 new Sumeru characters to the game. These are Cyno, Nilou and Candace.

Cyno – The Judicator of Secrets

Cyno is an important character to the story of Version 3.1 but hasn’t been present in the first two parts of the Archon Quest. He is an elusive character who has been hinted at several times but is making his official debut with Version 3.1. He is bad at telling jokes (and liable to over-explain them) but is exceptionally skilled at card games.

He is a 5-star Electro Polearm, making him the second character of that type alongside the Raiden Shogun. Cyno is known as the Mahamatra and is a part of the Matra, a group of Sumeru guards who protect the sanctity of Sumeru City and beyond. Dressed in a unique desert garb and stylish jackal helm, Cyno stands out amongst the other Genshin Impact characters.

His kit is focused heavily on dealing as much damage as fantastically as possible. His Burst is the main point of interest where Cyno dons a strange new form made from ancient technology and Electro shaped like a Jackal. Complete with slick claws and powered-up moves, Cyno acts similar to other transformer characters like the Shogun, inflicting forced Electro damage with every hit while being immune to Electro-Charged damage. This is a very potent and very powerful ability.

Cyno’s Normal Attack combos and his Elemental Skill are also altered by his Burst. Ordinarily, he will enter a spear combo when using his Normal Attack and his Skill is a quick stab forward with Electro. While in his Burst, the Normal Attack combo becomes a series of claw attacks and the Skill becomes an overhead stab with a now Electro imbued polearm.

Nilou – Star of Zubayr Theatre

We previously met Nilou during the Archon Quest in Sumeru where we learned that she is the Star of Zubayr Theatre. She was responsible for the Dance of Flowers at the Subzarru Festival and acts as a dancer. She officially joins the roster in Version 3.1

Nilou is a 5-star Hydro Sword, the second of that match since Kamisato Ayato. Her entire identity is that of a dancer and it is said that just being near her is enough to set people at ease. She is an important member of Sumeru’s arts and is a light to many who dwell away from the domineering gaze of knowledge.

Nilou’s kit and her abilities focus a lot on her role as a dancer. Her Normal Attack is a graceful 3-hit combo that can be changed and altered depending on circumstance. Activating her Elemental Skill at specific times (such as before the 3rd ‘step’ in her Normal Attack) will alter the next slash Nilou does to be a massive wave of water. Other alterations exist, all of which build off of different combos and timings.

Her Burst is a wide-range Hydro AoE that blows opponents away and deals delayed damage after a short time. In addition, Nilou has special interactions depending on the make-up of her team. If the entire team is comprised only of Hydro and Dendro characters (something important for reactions like Bloom) then Nilou gets additional benefits and buffs that will aid the entire group.

Candace – The Golden Vow

Candance is another new character that we haven’t previously met. She rounds out our new 3.1 trios as an intriguing figure.

She is a 4-star Hydro Polearm with Candace being the very time this combination has been seen in-game. Candace is touted as the Guardian of Aaru Village and has the title of the Golden Vow, with a speciality in blocking, guarding and protecting.

Candace the Golden Vow

This protector nature carries over to her kit and abilities. Her main point of standing is her Elemental Skill. When activated, Candace will raise her shield to block any incoming damage. After a short time, the shield becomes primed and releasing the skill inflicts AoE Hydro damage in front of Candace. If she is hit while blocking in this state, it both blocks the damage and fully charges the shield instantly.

Her Burst is similar to Bennett’s C6. When cast, any melee characters in the party will have their Normal Attacks imbued and infused with the element of Hydro. This means that every hit will possibly be able to trigger different Reactions than usual depending on your team set-up. There are also other benefits and buffs provided during this time.

New Banners

During 3.1 there are set to be 4 characters Wish Banners spread across 2 stages.

In stage 1, Cyno and Candace will be available to Wish on. This is alongside the Mondstadt Bard and Archon Venti, who returns for another rerun. Candace will appear as a rate-up character in both of these Wishes.

In stage 2, Nilou will substitute as the new 5-star character. She will be running alongside the Alchemist Albedo, who returns after some time for another rerun.

Version 3.1 will also bring forth some new additions to the 5-star and 4-star roster of weapons. Two of these weapons are perfect fits for either Cyno or Nilou. The two new 5-star weapons are a sword called The Key of Khaj-Nisut and a polearm called The Staff of the Scarlet Sands. In addition, 3 new 4-star weapons also join the fold: the sword Xiphos’ Moonlight, claymore Makaira Aquamarine and the catalyst Wandering Evenstar.

New Sumeru Area: The Deshret Desert

A brand new area is coming to Genshin Impact in Version 3.1. To the West of the Lost Nursery, you can find the expansive, arid wastes of the Deshret Desert, home to the Eremites and the Scarlet King. This area is vast and incredible, filled with never-before-seen puzzles, adventures and enemies.

The Desert will feature heavily in the Sumeru Archon Quest Act 3 and Act 4, which will become available during Version 3.1. The sands are covered in ancient remains and vestments from a time long passed with technology and tools that we cannot call our own. Here you can find another massive Ruin Protector similar to the one found in the Rain Forests, the friendly town of Aaru Village and even a mystical Oasis or two.

There are tons of new wildlife and enemies to encounter, too. Two new Bosses make their name here, one of which is known as The Algorithm. This large automaton is a larger version of a new type of mechanical enemy found throughout the sands. The other new boss is the Aeonblight Drake, a large, nastier version of the Ruin Drake enemy much like the improved Ruin Graders to the Ruin Guards.

Deshret Desert looks massive and fantastical as another great addition to Genshin Impact’s ever-expanding world.

New Events

Several new events are making their way to Genshin Impact in Version 3.1. All of these events awarded various amounts of materials and Primogems, so they’re worth doing.

Perhaps the most significant event is called Of Ballads and Brews. This is a Mondstadt event which will be very story focused and has a lot of different moving pieces. Razor and his past will be a prominent figure, as well as many of our other friends and allies from Mondstadt. 4 new gameplay types will feature in this event: helping hunters secure meat, challenging strong buffed enemies, running your shop and following clues to special chest in Mondstadt. There will also be a new 4-star sword unique to this event.

The next event is Wind Chaser. This is similar to events from the past where Travellers are tasked with exploring a new Domain filled with unique puzzles. Here, you must collect coins while navigating puzzles focused mainly on wind and air currents.

Star-Seeker’s Sojourn is apparently quite a chilled-out event. Using a special gadget, you will travel around Sumeru looking for special points of interest. These will then point you to other locations and points called Future Stars, which are important in your goal to help a girl called Bana.

Finally, the beloved Inazuman event the Hyakunin Ikki returns. Challenge various enemies and combatants in tests of skill and strategy just off of Inazuma’s coastline. This event has come before so now you can reexperience it or view it for the first time.

Permanent Free Collei

In addition, if you complete Spiral Abyss Floor 4 at any point after Version 3.1, you will get a special reward. Much like how you could get a free Xiangling by completing the first floor of Spiral, you will get a free copy of the character Collei if you manage to beat it. This way, every player now has access to all 7 elements.

Anniversary Details

The second anniversary of Genshin Impact is on the 28th of September and Hoyoverse has a few things lined up for us. If you were expecting any drastically different to last year, sorry to disappoint. However, free is free and these will go a long way to getting you some brand new characters.

The first is a new login event called Path of Gleaming Jade. This login event is similar to the one from last year and by logging in for 7 days, you can get up to 10 Resonant Fates for the Unique Wish Banners.

In addition to this, there will also be mail sent out during this time. The rewards include a bonus of 1,600 Primogems (a full 10-pulls worth), level-up resources, special furniture and even a new unique Minion. This creature can follow you around, much like the Seelies from the treasure collection event currently on in Version 3.0.

Future Plans

In addition to all of this, Hoyoverse detailed some plans for the game and beyond. These reveals are quite important as major landmarks in Genshin Impact’s future.

In-Game TCG

The first is a new permanent mode called Genius Invokation TCG. This is a game mode played by the characters of Genshin Impact and it is even a game that Cyno is especially skilled at.

For those playing, it will be similar to other online card battlers like Hearthstone or Magic the Gathering. You will use cards based on Genshin Impact characters who all come with their special moves and abilities. There are buff cards, support cards, and even more.

This mode isn’t coming for a while but it should be in-game within the next few patches. Expect this something after Version 3.2.

Genshin Impact Anime

Perhaps the most exciting thing announced was that Genshin Impact is getting an anime. Or at least an animated series.

In an announcement video, Hoyoverse announced that they are teaming up with the acclaimed animation studio ufotable, famous for their work on Demon Slayer and the Fate series. With them onboard for a ‘long-form project’ we will finally get to see the world of Teyvat translated to a new, animated format.

Like the TCG, no word was given on the release date for this anime. However, I wouldn’t expect it anytime soon.

Genshin Impact Version 3.1 launches on September 28th for all players.
