Being a free-to-play title, it’s unsurprising that there’s a premium currency purchasable using real-world money. Apex Coins are that currency in Apex Legends, with players able to buy between 1,000 coins for $9.99 and 11,500 coins for $99.99. Origin Access and EA Access members each receive a 10 percent discount when buying Apex Coins.
Each of the five purchasable packs contains a few more coins per dollar than the one before it, so if you know you’re going to be spending a lot in the long run, and can afford to do so, go ahead and purchase a bigger pack up front and get the most for your money.
Apex Coins can be used to purchase a number of items in the Featured section of the Rotating Shop, found in the Store tab. Each item in this shop stays for seven days before being replaced. The featured section has a number of items normally only available in Apex Packs or by using Crafting Metals, but while they’re in the Rotating Shop players can use Apex Coins to purchase them directly.
Players can also purchase Apex Packs, the game’s version of loot boxes, for 100 Apex Coins each. Players will also earn 45 free Apex Packs on their way to hitting level 100, and once the Battle Pass is implemented players can receive packs through it as well.
Apex Packs each contain three random items for players to collect. Many of the items in Apex Packs are cosmetic, including weapon skins, character skins, banner frames, finisher moves, and banner poses.
Currently, the most desired item an Apex Pack can give is the Wraith Heirloom Set, the only Heirloom Set currently in the game. Awarded less than one percent of the time, every player is guaranteed at least one Heirloom Set for every 500 Apex Packs they open (unless they already own each available set). Apex Packs are the only way to get Heirloom Sets.
Alongside cosmetic items, Apex Packs may also award players with voice lines for characters to say at the start of a match or after getting a kill.
