The only way to get this currency is through opening Apex Packs (purchasable with Apex Coins or earned through leveling up), which will sometimes include Crafting Metals of common through legendary rating. The only difference in the rating of the metal is how much of it a player receives, with rarer packs giving more metal.
Crafting Metals can be spent on almost anything one can get in an Apex Pack, but players get to choose exactly what they want to make instead of it being randomly chosen. Players cannot purchase Heirloom Sets with Crafting Metals, however.
If a player uses their Crafting Metals to unlock low-cost common items, those items will be taken out of the pool of awards in Apex Packs, increasing the chance the player will unlock a rare, epic, or legendary item from the pack instead.
Different types and classes of items have different costs associated with them, which you can find below.

If you use crafting metals on common items it will remove them from the pool that loot boxes pull from and increase the chances of higher tier items in loot boxes because of the no duplicates system.
