Apex Legends Season 16: Revelry Update Preview

Apex Legends Season 16: Revelry is headlined by the cancellation of Arenas, new weapons, Team Deathmatch and revamped legend classes. Despite no new Legends coming into the roster, the 4th Anniversary event and an overhaul for player experience should be an exciting addition to the franchise.

Apex Legends Season 16: Revelry update preview

Respawn has dropped a preview of Season 16: Revelry, by posting a video with Game Director Steve Ferreira and Design Director Evan Nikolich sharing the details. Dropping on February 14th, the devs claim “nothing is safe”, with the game set to have a significant shakeup to the player experience. Be sure to log in for the first two weeks of the season to unlock Crypto and get a thematic pack in week 1, and Ashe and her thematic pack in week 2.

Data miners and people in the community have access to leaked content for the new season, however, this article will discuss the changes communicated through the official channels.

Remastered Legend Classes

The existing Legends classes of Offensive, Defensive, Recon and Support will be updated with a new system of 5 unique classes that will change the gameplay experience and interactions with the map. The 5 classes are:

  • Assault
  • Recon
  • Skirmisher
  • Controller
  • Support

The preview video states the new interactions will include new loot bins, ways to revive teammates and interactions with recon beacons. There will be patch notes for balance changes coming closer to Revelry’s launch, with Lifeline, Seer and Wraith set to have adjustments.

New LTMs

With the addition of Team Deathmatch, Apex Legends is set to crank out another game mode for fans to enjoy alongside the traditional battle royale and other limited-time game modes in rotation.

From early March, players can enjoy the new Mixtape mode, which will cycle between TDM, Gun Run and Control. With the success Control had upon its launch, this feature will be another way for players to experience real combat situations repeatedly in a short time frame.

Arenas is set to be out of the game with the game mode reportedly “not meeting our(the dev team’s) goals”.

Player Experience Changes From the Apex Update

The Firing Range is getting a much-needed overhaul with the Dummy Strafing and stat tracking allowing for more interactive warmups that mimic the core game mode. Bots will be added to the Orientation Match system for new players to learn the core game mechanics in a pressure-free environment.

The 4th Anniversary event will contain a new community content reward track and an Anniversary Collection Event. This will add special decorations to the map and a “return of a fan favourite”.

The game is also set to release a new energy weapon called the Nemesis, with it likely having decent close-to-midrange engagement potential as devs aim to have it become an alternative to the R-301 and Flatline.

Additionally, an update to the Firing Range is something users have been crying about for a long time and the Remastered Legend Classes should shake up the meta more than in seasons gone by. TDM is exciting and hopefully lives up to expectations as LTM’s have been largely well received by the community.
