Critics widely regard Titanfall 2 as one of the best first-person shooters this generation. Alongside the immensely popular Apex Legends, the same developers also created the critically acclaimed Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. These titles alone have given Respawn Entertainment a reputation for quality releases. To celebrate the studio’s tenth birthday, Respawn has announced that it will open a second studio in Vancouver that will focus solely on Apex Legends’ continued development.
In a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Apex game director Chad Grenier and head of operations, Henry Lee, explained the decision to open a new studio in Vancouver led by Henry Lee and team director Steven Ferreira.
Lee: When you look at Vancouver, it’s one of our [EA’s] biggest studio locations, and Vancouver is full of talented people in the games industry, so there was a natural fit with Steven coming on board with his core team and really establishing that foundation. Now we’re just adding the missing pieces to it.
Quite what the team in California is going to be working on now is a mystery, but the opening of a new studio in Vancouver allows Respawn’s first team to work on other projects.
