After over a year and a half of waiting, a new Memento has been added to Destiny 2 and it’s possibly one of the best yet. In Festival of the Lost 2023, Bungie has decided to spice up the event and give players something meaningful to chase in the form of the Lost Memento which, when applied to crafted weapons, will make them completely black and give them a unique leather texture. Guardians have been asking for an all-black shader since the days of Superblack back in Destiny 1 and, while this isn’t an actual shader, it’s certainly worth chasing for those invested in their D2 fashion game.
However, the Lost Memento will only be available for a limited time, disappearing at the end of Festival of the Lost 2023 and becoming completely unable to earn. As such, many people will want to know how they can quickly and efficiently snag multiple copies of this slick new Memento as fast as they can. Well, they’re in luck as there’s not only a way to get one guaranteed copy of the Lost Memento but a way to farm multiple of them.
Here’s how to unlock the new Festival of the Lost Memento in Destiny 2 and how to get additional copies of it so you can don your entire crafted arsenal in all-black leather.

How to Get the Festival of the Lost Memento
There are actually two ways to get the Lost Memento in Destiny 2. One will guarantee you one drop of the Lost Memento whereas the other is a method of continually farming Memento drops. Firstly, we’ll be going over the guaranteed method of acquiring one copy of the Lost Memento so you can have at least one in your inventory before FotL 2023 ends. This method involves completing a specific triumph called Twilight, a new triumph you can find under the Season of the Witch triumph tab, which will award you a single Lost Memento upon completion.
At first glance, Twilight is a strange triumph. It has three objectives in total – one completion-based objective and two numerical objectives – but their actual descriptors are hidden, which may lead some Guardians to assume that the triumph isn’t available yet. However, even if the descriptors are hidden, you can still complete them and earn yourself the Lost Memento if you know what you’re doing.
To complete the Twilight triumph in Destiny 2 and earn yourself a Lost Memento, you’ll need to:
- Complete the Fallen S.A.B.E.R. Strike while wearing the Clovis Bray Mask Ornament.
- Kill 100 enemies on Neomuna while wearing the Nimbus Mask Ornament.
- Finish 25 enemies inside of Legendary Haunted Sectors while wearing the Tormentor Mask.
Clovis Bray Mask Objective
First off, we have the Clovis Bray Mask objective which is to complete the old Fallen S.A.B.E.R. Strike while your Masquerader’s Hood is equipped with Clovis Bray Mask Ornament. The Clovis Bray Mask is actually one of the easiest new masks to obtain in Festival of the Lost 2023 because you get given it at the end of the event’s introductory quest. The first time you enter the Tower during the Festival’s runtime, Eva will be waiting for you with a quest titled Classic Carving which will take you through the main gameplay loop of the event.
To get the mask, all you need to do is follow the steps in the quest until you get told to claim a seasonal event challenge from the Event Card. There’s only one challenge that you can claim at that point which will award you the Clovis Bray Mask and complete the Classic Carving quest for Eva. At that point, you simply need to click on your Masquerader’s Hood Helmet item and slot the newly obtained Mask into the Ornament slot. Now you, too, can go around looking down on everyone like a certain Machiavellian menace we all know and hate.
As for the Strike itself, you can complete Fallen S.A.B.E.R. on any difficulty and it doesn’t need to be in a playlist. This means that, if the triumph objective is your only goal, you can boot up the Strike directly from the Cosmodrome map and play through it on 1600 Light for an easy completion. Once the final boss falls and the Strike finishes, you’ll be one objective closer to that sweet Lost Memento.
Nimbus Mask Objective
The second objective for the Twilight Triumph and Lost Memento involves killing enemies on Neomuna while donning the visage of the city’s heroic Cloudstrider, Nimbus. The Nimbus Mask isn’t difficult to obtain, only requiring a specific seasonal Event Challenge completion just like the Clovis Bray Mask. This time, all you need to do is complete a Legendary Haunted Sector to earn the mask, the much harder variant of the event activity where you descend into the depths of a tricked-out creepy Lost Sector accompanied by the snide voice of Immaru.
You’ll gain access to the Legendary Haunted Sector node after completing the previously mentioned Classic Carving quest and, once you’ve beaten one, just claim the Horrific Haunts Event Challenge for your own Nimbus Mask.
Then, with the Mask equipped, just head on over to Neomuna patrol and start mowing down any Vex or Shadow Legion you come across. Farm the enemies at the Terminal Overload activity or visit one of Neomuna’s three Lost Sectors for an easy abundance of meat bags to mow through if you want to get this done as quickly as possible. As soon as the hundredth body falls to your nanite-empowered might, another objective will tick itself off for the Twilight Triumph.
Tormentor Mask Objective
Finally, the last objective on Twilight’s list is the most annoying and tedious to do for two main reasons. The first is that you need to obtain the, admittedly, very cool Tormentor Mask which, to no one’s surprise, comes from a Festival of the Lost Event Challenge. To be more specific, the Heads Will Roll Challenge will award players the Tormentor Mask upon completion. For this challenge, you need to dispatch 100 Headless Ones in Haunted Sectors.
Unfortunately, as of the first few days of the event, there appears to be a glitch with this triumph where some Headless One kills aren’t counting. This mainly appears to be an issue on the normal version of the Haunted Sectors but, even if it wasn’t, we’d still be recommending that you run Legendary Haunted Sectors for convenience’s sake, as Headless One kills in the harder difficult count as more than one kill. However you decide to tackle this challenge, you’ll pick up the Tormentor Mask as your reward.
With that in mind, hop back into Legendary Haunted Sectors with the mask equipped and get ready for some tedium. You need to finish (or execute) 25 enemies in Legendary Haunted Sectors which, in a full fireteam, isn’t too much of an ask, especially when there are so many enemies to go around. If you go in solo, though, you’ll be competing for kills with those looking to nab their own finishers or those looking to speed-clear the Lost Sector, leading to some frustrating runs where you may end up with little progression.
Keep bashing your head against it, though, and you’ll eventually get the 25 kills you need, completing the final objective for the Twilight Triumph. After claiming the triumph, one copy of the Lost Memento will be yours to do with as you wish.
How to Get More Lost Memento Copies in Destiny 2
The question on most Guardian’s lips regarding the Lost Memento in Destiny 2 will be how you can get more copies of it. The Lost Memento is only available to earn for the three weeks that Festival of the Lost 2023 is around and, like the other Mementos, you can only carry a single copy of it in your inventory. If you want more than one gun to have the slick, all-black leather shader, you’ll need to get your hands on multiple copies of it.
According to the TWAB from the 10th of October 2023, additional copies of the Lost Memento will drop from Eerie Engrams, special Engrams which drop at the end of Haunted Sector activities. This means that you can repeatedly grind Legendary Haunted Sectors for Eerie Engrams which you can turn into Eva for an extra chance at additional Lost Memento drops. Just remember to head over to the Enclave and slap the Lost Memento onto your desired weapon before going after another copy: you can only stack one Memento in your inventory and the Engrams won’t drop another one if you already have a matching Memento in your inventory.
However, Bungie has also confirmed through their Bungie Help Twitter Account that these extra Mementos aren’t dropping right now due to a bug that they’re currently investigating. Bungie hasn’t given an exact timeline for when we can expect a fix for the bug but we’ll provide an update when they announce one.
UPDATE 20/10/2023: Bungie has confirmed that the bug affecting Lost Memento drop rates has been patched. From now until the end of Festival of the Lost 2023, you have a chance at obtaining an extra Lost Memento each time you crack open an Eerie Engram.
Lost Memento Overview
As for how the Lost Memento itself works, you won’t instantly gain access to the exclusive all-black shader as soon as you slot it into your weapon. Instead, like all other Mementos, you’ll need to reach certain levels with the crafted weapon you put the Lost Memento onto. Reaching these different milestones will unlock different vanity options:
- At weapon level 1, you’ll unlock a special Festival of the Lost Tracker which records how many Headless Ones you’ve killed with the weapon.
- At weapon level 20, the weapon unlocks a unique Title, Headless Horror.
- Then, finally, at weapon level 30, you’ll unlock the Lost Memento exclusive shader for that weapon.
The Lost Memento Shader you’ll unlock is Twilight Keepsake and it’s the shader many Guardians have been clamouring after for years and then some. When applied to a weapon, it gives it a slick all-black look with a distinct leather texture on certain parts of the gun. Some of the best weapons to apply the Lost Memento onto are definitely the craftable Crota’s End weapons as they make the whole weapon, including the skulls, a stark black.
Remember that, via Weapon Enhancing, you can also add a Memento to your Raid Adept weapons. If you want to know how to do this so you can transform your Adept Rufus’ Fury or Adept Swordbearer into the most edgy form possible, you can check out our Adept Weapon Enhancing guide here on KeenGamer.

And that was how you can get the new Festival of the Lost Memento in Destiny 2. Remember that the Memento is only available to earn until the end of Festival of the Lost 2023, which concludes on November 7th, so get all your grinding in before then. Good luck, Guardians!
