It’s a happy day for spooky islanders! Today, for Animal Crossing New Horizons, Nintendo has released the new 1.5.0 update that’s centred around the upcoming Halloween season. Here we’ll go through what’s important and what you need to know to transform your island from summer fun to spooky fall.
For starters, we have to talk about the fact that you can now grow pumpkins! For the first time in the series, we’re able to grow something besides flowers and trees. All you need to do is head over to Nook’s Cranny and purchase some pumpkin starters in the cupboard, or get them a bit cheaper when Leif comes by your town.
You’ll either get white, yellow, orange, or green pumpkins. It’s completely random which colour you get, but apparently green is the rarest. Sadly, these seeds will only be sold for the month of October, and you’ll only be able to start growing them in that month; it’s probable that you won’t be able to grow them after October either.
What’s also new is the spooky customization options. If you head to the ATM, spend some Nook Miles on new skin colours and eye colours to make your costumes pop. This seems to be a permanent item, so no worries if you miss it.
Pumpkin patches aren’t just for show. Once you harvest your bounty, you can then make furniture and items with them. There are plenty of fall-related items, such as a pumpkin arch, pumpkin candy set, pumpkin scarecrow, and much more. Nook’s Cranny also starts to sell one pumpkin furniture a day this upcoming month. As you can tell, most of these new items will need pumpkins in them, so start growing!
In preparation for Halloween, the Able Sisters and Kicks will be selling new costume-related items, such as bat wings, cat whiskers, devil horns, and more. Once October 31st rolls around, the evening begins and Jack comes to visit.
Be sure to collect candy from Nook’s Cranny every day, because you can only get one per visit. It’ll be needed to participate in some of Halloween’s events. As this IGN guide says, this is how New Horizons‘ Halloween will work,
During this time you’ll have the opportunity to Trick or Treat with your fellow villagers as you exchange Candies for Recipes and Lollipops. You may even trade your Candy and Lollipop’s with Jack in order to receive unique and exclusive Halloween themed items such as a replica of Jack’s costume, a Spooky Wand, and a Spooky Carriage.
This new Animal Crossing update has quite a hefty amount of new content, so if you haven’t been on your island in a while, I’d recommend October as the perfect time to return. It’s only a matter of time till Christmas comes along, with a whole new feast of content to enjoy.
