Every single month the Animal Crossing community votes on their favourite Villagers on Animal Crossing Portal. This is what our most popular Villagers for October 2020 list is created from. Some months there are barely any changes. But then we have months like this, which turn everything on its head and put a previously unknown Villager at the top. Here we’re going to cover who the community has voted as their favourites this month, each of which is now worth between 15 and 20 million Bells, or a few thousand Nook Miles Tickets.

Marshal is a lovely little white squirrel Villager. He has impeccable fashion sense, and gets on with most other Villagers in the game, though there are a couple who rub him up the wrong way. He’s not been at the top of this chart for a while, but now he’s seen a resurgence. I think this could have something to do with the number of videos and memes there are of him making the rounds within the community. One really fantastic TikTok video shows him dressed as a chef in a kitchen, getting very stressed with the other Villagers. He looks exactly like Gordon Ramsey.
Erik has never been in the top tier for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, let alone a list like the most popular Villagers for October 2020. He’s a lazy deer Villager, but his name is actually a variation of the word ‘elk’. I believe that players have voted for him for two main reasons. First, because he looks more like an elk or moose, rather than a deer. Autumn is rutting season for elk, which is when you’d see them more commonly in the world, hence why some players want an elk like Erik on their islands right now. The second reason is more obvious. As the weather gets colder towards the end of the year, people want to wear warm clothes. Erik has a fantastic woolly jumper, and looks thoroughly autumnal, which is why I think many other players want to have him around.
Raymond has always been a firm favourite, so it’s no surprise that he’s in this month’s list. He’s a brand new Villager for this game, one that isn’t obtainable through Amiibo cards, which is a big part of his appeal. However, it’s his different coloured eyes that most players fall for. He’s been at the top of the most popular Villagers list, if not in the top position, since Animal Crossing: New Horizons released. I would have thought that most people are bored of him by now, but clearly I’m very wrong.
Tabby rose through the ranks of the Villager popularity tiers last month, and is now placed just outside of the top 3. She’s a peppy cat Villager, but most players love her because of the way she looks. Some players call her ugly, and collect her for their island in order to fill them with the ugliest Villagers possible. However, most players aren’t that mean. You see, Tabby’s fur looks very much like a tiger’s, which is what has drawn so many players to her of late. While she’s appeared in every Animal Crossing game in the series, it’s taken a few months for the community to latch onto here in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Poor old Sherb has been falling slowly down this list over the past few months, but now he seems to be sticking firmly around the top 10. He’s a blue sheep Villager who doesn’t have that much going for him. I think his main appeal comes from the way he asks others to smell him. He also just has some of the most random dialogue in the game. Still, he’s nice to have around at this time of year because he echoes what we’re all feeling. That need to find a cosy place in the house, snuggle up, and snooze.
Merry flew to the top of this chart a little while back because of a streamer. She’s the perfect example of the power that content creators have over the game when they exert it. Outside of that though, Merry is a very sweet Villager. She’s a tiny little cat Villager, but she’s got a big personality. I think this is why players love her enough for her to be sticking around in the chart. She’s outspoken and doesn’t care what people think of her and her interests. Something many people aspire to.
Judy has been a staple on this list since Animal Crossing: New Horizons launched. Players love her because of her eyes. She’s the only Villager with eyes that don’t just shine like stars, they literally are stars. Judy is also a bit of a snob, and can annoy many of the other Villagers you have on your island, but ultimately she’s one of the best Villagers you could ever hope to have. She’s actually the focus of a lot of challenges that players undertake to see how quickly they can find her on a Nook Miles Ticket. A nice way to spice up the game if you don’t want to tend to your flowers.
Zucker hasn’t actually moved since the last vote was taken. He’s an octopus Villager, which makes him one of the rarest in the game. Zucker is also one of the few Villagers that have been inspired by food. He’s based on a Japanese snack, which is why his hair looks like sauce. It really is meant to. Having Zucker on your island can only be made better by having all the other octopus Villagers as well, which is generally why he’s sought after.
Bob has been rising through the chart over the past few months, but now he’s finally starting to fall out of it again. He’s a purple cat Villager who is generally considered to be a bit weird. It’s not that he looks odd, though he does have purple fur. No, it’s more that he says some crazy things every now and then. However, he’s a big hit among cat lovers, and that’s the most likely reason for him to be sticking around just inside the top 10.
Stitches is another non-mover this month. He’s actually a sound Villager once you get over the fact that he’s definitely made from various bits of teddy bears all stitched together. I think he’s quite popular because of the fact that he looks like a teddy bear. Most Animal Crossing: New Horizons players have been older, but recently more young gamers have been getting into it. For as long as that continues to happen, Stitches will be a constant presence on this list.
Marina is the second octopus in the most popular Villagers for October 2020 list. She’s also possibly the best octopus Villager you could hope to get. She’s very much a lover of the colour pink, something that’s reflected in her skin and house. She surrounds herself with it, but that doesn’t make it overpowering. In fact, I think it makes her quite sweet. I believe that her desirability is driven by the fact she’s an octopus, and most players want more of them on their islands.
Beau has fallen down a bit over the last month. He’s been one of the most loved Villagers for a very long time, but now I think his time is coming to an end. At least for Autumn. I think that Beau is very much a winter Villager, and we’ll see him dropping back into the list later this year. For now though, he’s still with us. Some people don’t mind Beau too much, but I get quite uncomfortable around him for some reason. As do certain Villagers.
Fauna is one of my favourite Villagers in this list. As I always mention, for those who don’t know, she’ll actively water your plants. I think this makes her pretty overpowered, because having her on your island allows you to spend more time on other tasks. Outside of her practical uses though, Fauna is always lovely and full of nice things to say to brighten your day. She is perfect for this time of year, when the clouds are drawing in and the temperature is plummeting as fast as the leaves.
Ankha is just about clinging on in this list. If you can’t tell, she’s a cat Villager, but she’s totally obsessed with Egyptology. Both her appearance and her house are ripe with Egyptian influences. I quite like this, but that’s because I’m also into the Egyptians. This could seem odd to others, which is why I think she’s starting to fall further down this list. I don’t think younger players appreciate how awesome she is. You never know, maybe she’ll bounce back when they study Egypt in school.
Dom is just about hanging in here in the most popular Villagers for October 2020 list, but he’s not going to be around much longer. Dom made it to the top of the list during pride month, but ever since then he’s been falling further and further down. I think that he’s a fantastic Villager, one that’s always friendly and welcoming. The trouble is that he’s very forgettable. His only distinguishing features are his shirt and horns, both of which made him the perfect in-game mascot for pride month, but not any other time of year.
