It’s the moment many have been looking forwards to as Nintendo has announced what will be in the Winter Update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons! The free update is set to drop on November 19th and will feature new events for players to enjoy as well as new customisation options and a new upgrade for their home.

What’s New?

On the 26th of November players will be able to celebrate Turkey Day (not to be mistaken with the Mystery Science Theatre 3000 event of the same name). On Turkey Day master chief Franklin will be returning to the game with players able to give him items to use in his recipes for the day’s festivities. Perfect for anyone who has kept growing pumpkins after October’s update or just happens to have plenty of fruit trees on their island. For helping Franklin players will be rewarded with items from him, though it is currently unclear if these will be the usual Harvest themed items that he gives out, but we shall soon find out!

Throughout December players will be able to collect and craft a feast of festive furniture as well as a chance for those in the Northern Hemisphere to collect snowflakes to create ice furniture. Additionally, players will be able to shake decorated trees which will provide ornaments that can be used to craft holiday themed furniture. Also they will be able to purchase seasonal items from Nook’s Cranny and the Able Sister’s shop. On the 24th of December Jingle the Reindeer will be coming to town for Toy Day, the Animal Crossing equivalent of Christmas. Players will be tasked with helping the jolly little critter deliver presents to the island’s inhabitants.

Additionally, two new items will be added to be redeemed from the Nookmiles terminal. The Hip Reaction Collection which will allow players to perform new actions such as taking pictures on their phones, working out, and doing Yoga! There is also the Top 6 Stylish Hairstyles set which adds, well, six new stylish hairstyles which players can use to customise their characters with. The Hip Reaction Collection and Top 6 Stylish Hairstyles items will be available for 2700 Nookmiles and 1800 Nookmiles respectively. So be sure to do your daily tasks to earn plenty of Nookmiles for them!

Quality of Life Updates

Also, in the Winter Update trailer was News that players will be able to expand their home storage; increasing them max amount that can be stored from 1600 items to 2400. This is an update that has been much requested by fans for quite some time now, and hopefully could be a sign of more quality of life updates to come later down the line.

Finally, the trailer announced that Save Data Transfer will be available from 19th November which will allow Animal Crossing: New Horizons players to transfer their island from one Switch to another. To do this players will need to download the Island Transfer Tool which will be available for free on the eShop from the 19th. Using this tool players will be able to transfer a whole island to a new Switch or a single player. More information on how this works can be found on Nintendo’s Support website. This Tool should prove useful for anyone who buys a Switch for a loved one this holiday season or if Nintendo does come out with a new model of Switch in the not too distant future. Which could be sooner than we think, if certain reports are true.
