Animal Crossing New Horizons June Overview

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, June is a month that is packed with lots of things going on, whether you’re playing in the northern or southern hemisphere. This month, the two hemispheres couldn’t be any different. The summer is really getting going in the north, while in the south, winter is in full swing. In the north, you’ll be soaking in the hot sun, but in the south, you’ll be busy crunching around in the snow. Also this month, look out for the northern summer and southern winter solstice. There are still events that will be shared across both hemispheres though. Probably the biggest event of June is the Wedding Season, where Cyrus and Reese need your help with celebrating their wedding anniversary. There’s lots going on in June, so let’s find out exactly what you have to look out for, so you don’t miss anything.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available exclusively on Nintendo Switch.

Events

It’s fair to say that June isn’t a quiet month in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. There are events to watch out for, namely Wedding Season with Cyrus and Reese. There are also new Nook Shopping items available this month, as well as seasonal collectibles and DIY recipes.

Wedding Season

Occurs: All Month (June 1st – 30th)

Hemisphere: Both

June is a special month for two characters in particular in New Horizons. Cyrus and Reese, the alpaca couple who run the DIY stall on Harv’s island, are celebrating their wedding anniversary this month. They want to commemorate the occasion, and to do that, they need the player’s help. The player has the opportunity to visit Photopia on Harv’s Island and take special photos of them, and there’s a special reward for the player at the end of it.

To take part in this event, travel to Harv’s Island. You will be tasked with decorating the photo studio to resemble a wedding chapel. Once you’ve done that, you have to take photos of Cyrus and Reese. For your time and efforts, you will be rewarded with a unique item from the Wedding series, plus some Heart Crystals. You can give these special Crystals to Cyrus in exchange for more Wedding items, up to 8 a day. More Heart Crystals can be gained by completing more photo shoots. The better you decorate the chapel, the more Crystals you win.

Each day, Reese will give you new themes to decorate the chapel. Eventually, she’ll give you one final task, to set up a wedding party, complete with villagers as guests. By completing this final task, the player will be rewarded with a commemorative photo plate and the Wedding Fence DIY recipe. The next day, Cyrus will give the player the Wedding Wand recipe and any remaining Wedding recipes.

Wedding items can also be obtained at the Able Sisters and Nook Shopping.

These are the Thank-You Dad Mug for 600 Bells and the Thank-You Dad Apron for 1,100 Bells.

Summer Shell Season Begins

Occurs: June 1st – August 31st

Hemisphere: North Only

Summer has arrived in the north in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. In this game, that means one thing: summer shells. This is a special seasonal item that is available to collect all throughout summer. You can find this special blue shell washed up on the beaches of your island, just like any other shell. You should collect them when you see them, as they’re used in some unique summer-themed DIY recipes. They’re available until August 31st, when summer ends in the north, so collect them while you can.

Southern hemisphere players will be able to collect summer shells from December 1st to February 28th (or February 29th if it’s a leap year).

Dano Festival

Occurs: June 5th – 14th

Hemisphere: Both

You can celebrate this traditional Korean holiday in New Horizons thanks to a seasonal item from Nook Shopping. Called the Surichwi Tteok, you can purchase this for 1,000 Bells. It is edible and will gain you 5 energy points.

Dragon Boat Festival

Occurs: June 5th – 14th

Hemisphere: Both

The Dragon Boat Festival is a Chinese holiday that takes place around this time of year. Sadly, there’s no events taking place in New Horizons to mark this occasion, but it’s not completely ignored. From Nook Shopping, you can purchase a Festival Zongzi for 1,000 Bells. It is edible, and will give you 5 energy points towards smashing rocks and digging up trees.

Snow Arrives

Occurs: June 11th

Hemisphere: South Only

If you’re playing New Horizons in the south and have been looking forward to the snow, the moment will finally arrive on June 11th. When you enter your game on this day, you’ll be greeted with the sight of pure white snow covering your island. The arrival of snow means you’ll be able to create Snowboys using the big snowballs that appear on your island. Snowflakes will also appear for you to catch, which can be used in DIY recipes.

The northern hemisphere will get snow from December 11th.

In the south, the snow arrives in June.

Summer/Winter Solstice

Occurs: June 15th – 21st

Hemisphere: Both (Solstice dependent on hemisphere)

In June, it’s that time when the solstice occurs around the middle of the month. Which solstice occurs depends on which hemisphere you’re playing in. If you’re playing in the north, you’ll get the summer solstice, while the south will experience the winter solstice. Whichever solstice you’re celebrating, it will occur in the same time period, from June 15th until the 21st. Sadly, unlike previous Animal Crossing games, there are no unique events to commemorate the occasion, but it doesn’t mean you can’t mark the occasion.

If you’re in the north celebrating the summer solstice, you can get the Sunflower Crown from Nook Shopping for 1,560 Bells. Other summer solstice items available include the Sunflower Sunglasses (1,200 Bells) and Sunflower Rug (1,500 Bells). There’s also the Maypole for 2,400 Bells.

For southern hemisphere players celebrating the winter solstice, you can get two different items: the Midwinter Jumper for 1,200 Bells and the Aurora Wall for 7,000 Bells from Nook Shopping.

In December from the 15th until the 21st, the events are flipped around, so that the northern hemisphere will celebrate the winter solstice, while the southern hemisphere celebrates the summer solstice.

The south, meanwhile, will celebrate the shortest day of the year this month.

Hemisphere: North Only

It’s time for another Bug-Off with Flick… in the northern hemisphere, at least. Bugs, Fish, and Sea Creatures

A new month brings a new batch of bugs, fish, and sea creatures to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. There are also some that will not be available to find after the end of the month, for a while at least. What’s available depends on which hemisphere you’re playing in. We already have a dedicated June guide to bugs, fish and sea creatures in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, so make sure to check that out. Here’s a quick summary of what you can expect to find, and also what to catch while you still can.

Bugs

Let’s start with new bugs in the northern hemisphere. There are quite a few of them, including the goliath beetle, emperor butterfly, and rainbow stag. Fireflies are new to June too, but they’re not sticking around for very long, and will be gone again by the end of the month. Also, look out for the mosquito as it arrives this month. Don’t get caught unawares and get bitten!

Just as bugs are arriving, several are leaving the northern hemisphere too. These include butterflies such as the common butterfly and yellow butterfly. The ladybug and centipede will also no longer be available once July arrives.

The spring butterflies such as the common butterfly will be gone soon in the north.

That’s the north, and now to find out what bugs the south will be getting. There’s less activity with bugs in the southern hemisphere compared to the north. Only three new bugs will be arriving in June in the wintry south, including the dung beetle, emperor butterfly, and Raja Brooke’s butterfly.

There will be no departing bugs in the south in June, so you don’t have to worry about rushing to catch anything before they leave.

Fish

Let’s move onto fish, starting with the northern hemisphere. There are a ton of new fish arriving in June in the north this month. This includes the giant snakehead, piranha, and sharks! Watch out for those big fish in the ocean.

Only two fish are departing the waters in the north in June. These are the char and the cherry salmon.

What about fish in the southern hemisphere? Again, there’s less activity in the south than the north, although there are some new fish to catch, such as the oarfish and squid.

Only one fish will be gone by the end of June in the south: the pike.

The squid will arrive in the southern hemisphere in June.

Sea Creatures

Finally, let’s dive deep into the ocean and see what’s going on down there, starting with the north. There are some new sea creatures to find and catch, including the gazami crab, mussel, and tiger prawn.

Northern hemisphere players should note that three sea creatures will be unavailable once June is over. These include the chambered nautilus, firefly squid, and lobster.

In the southern hemisphere, there are less changes again. Only one new sea creature can be found, which is the lobster.

On the other hand, three sea creatures are leaving at the end of June, including the mussel, spiny lobster, and turban shell.

Southern hemisphere players will no longer be able to catch sea creatures such as the turban shell after June.

Other Information

Since summer and winter have officially arrived in Animal Crossing: New Horizons in June, you might be thinking about changing your wardrobe to reflect the current season. If you’re sizzling in the sun in the north, you’ll be wanting short sleeved shirts, shorts, sandals, and summer hats, something light and cool. Meanwhile, if you’re feeling the cold in the southern hemisphere, you’ll be hankering after thick coats, boots, and woolly hats, something to wrap up warm in.

Thankfully, the Able Sisters have got you covered. Depending on which hemisphere you’re playing in, some new clothing items will be available to purchase suitable for the weather. In the north, summer clothes will arrive in the store, and in the south, winter clothes become available. You can also find some seasonal clothing items at Nook Shopping and Kicks’ stall.

These seasonal-exclusive clothing items will last until the respective seasons have ended. In the north, summer clothes will no longer be available after the 1st of September. In the south, winter clothes will no longer be stocked after August 24th.

If you're in the south, the Able Sisters has you covered for the cold winter season.
