Starting tomorrow, on June 18th, an international virtual Pride festival, Global Pride Crossing, is taking place in Animal Crossing: New Horizons to celebrate the LGBTI+ community.
The event will see players from all over the world being able to visit a unique Pride-themed island, which will feature a rainbow march, message board, hall of fame, dance club, clothing options, and a catwalk. The festival is being presented by We Are Social, a global agency based in Singapore, in collaboration with Global Pride 2020.
Global Pride 2020 is Pride’s response to Covid-19 and was created in partnership with Pride groups globally, including Interpride, European Pride Organisers Association (EPOA), and UK Pride Organisers Network.
In a statement released yesterday, We Are Social said:
“With around 20,000 LGBTI+ related Animal Crossing mentions on Twitter to-date, we were inspired by the thriving LGBTI+ gaming community which already sees Animal Crossing: New Horizons as a creative outlet for expression.
“The festival aims to galvanize more players to join in the celebrations and host their own Pride parades on the platform, particularly those who have never been able to join in a Pride celebration for whatever reason.”
