It’s been 25 years since The Sims began, and to celebrate this milestone, there will be lots of new content for The Sims 4, starting today (January 14th) with the first free base game update of 2025! That’s not all, as The Sims FreePlay will also receive some updates. This announcement was revealed in the Behind The Sims 25th Birthday Special that livestreamed on January 14th. In case you missed anything, here’s everything we learned about in the livestream and the official blogs.
The Sims 25 Roadmap
We’ll start with the roadmap, which is usually revealed at the start of a new season for The Sims. This one is a little different from previous ones, having a much shorter timespan (mid-January to late-February), but here’s what it shows:
- January 16th – 3 Iconic Kits
- January 27th – 31st – Nostalgia Now
- February 4th – 25th Birthday Celebration: includes 25 hour livestream, start of event in The Sims 4, free content for The Sims 4, and events for The Sims FreePlay.
- February 6th – The Motherlode Season
- February 25th – ?
To sum this up, we have the usual announcement for new Kits – 3 of them, in fact. We also have a mysterious Nostalgia Now, which we should know more about nearer the time. Since February 4th is the official birthday for The Sims, there will be a special 25-hour livestream, plus a new event beginning in The Sims 4 (like Reaper’s Rewards and Cozy Celebrations), free content for The Sims 4, and events for The Sims FreePlay. Additionally, look out for the start of The Motherlode Season, beginning from February 6th. This could mean another new roadmap? As for February 25th, this was marked with a mysterious pair of eyes, hinting that this is something to watch for. Be sure to note this date!
The Sims 25 Hour Livestream
Let’s go deeper into the new roadmap, starting with the anniversary livestream. This will take place on February 4th, being livestreamed from YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok, kicking off at 2pm PT / 5pm ET. This will indeed be a mammoth 25 hour livestream, featuring some special guests, including Simmers, storytellers, and top builders, as they share how The Sims has inspired them over 25 years.
February Free Content Update
There has just been a free update for The Sims 4 base game, but this next one is set for February 4th, the same date as The Sims‘ birthday. This update will add 70 items into the game, including Create-A-Sim content and new objects. Look out for new outfits, hairdos, and accessories in Create-A-Sim, and for Build/Buy content, new doors and windows, wooden kitchen fittings, and a new pirate ship for the kids!
The Sims 4 Blast From The Past Event
February 4th is going to be a busy day for Simmers, with not just new freebies and a marathon livestream, but also a brand-new in-game event! If you’re familiar with previous events including Reaper’s Rewards and Cozy Celebrations, you’ll know what you’re in for. For a limited time, you’ll need to enter your game and complete set tasks in order to unlock unique items. This event has a 2000s theme, so expect to earn items such as an alarm clock, collectible milk cartons, telephone, inflatable chair and loveseat – and, since this is a celebration for The Sims, a multi-tiered cake!
The Sims FreePlay Events
The Sims 4 isn’t the only Sims game getting new stuff for its anniversary. The Sims FreePlay is also a part of this celebration. Tune in from February 4th for events to participate in and the chance to unlock new items. Additionally, from March, The Sims FreePlay will receive a new enhanced lighting option, allowing players to light up their Sims’ worlds and homes with sun rays flooding in or softer glows for cozier aesthetics.
MySims Cozy Bundle Coming to PC
This doesn’t officially appear on the roadmap, however, it’s definitely worth mentioning. The MySims Cozy Bundle, released last November exclusively on Nintendo Switch, will be available on PC! If you want your chance to play through MySims and MySims Kingdom on PC, you can do so from March 18th via the EA App, Steam, and Epic Games Store. The game is also available to pre-order through these stores.
Main Menu Updated Look and Original Townie Lot Makeovers
The main menu for The Sims 4 has received another makeover. It will look very different from its previous appearance. That’s not the only thing in The Sims 4 getting a fresh new look though. You may also notice that certain homes from The Sims 4 base game look different, including those of the Pancakes, Goths, Calientes, Landgraabs, and BBF households. A point to note: if you start a new game, you’ll see the updated homes. However, if you’re playing from an existing save and want to see the new updated homes, you’ll need to update them manually by locating them in My Library in The Sims 4 Gallery.
3 Brand-New Kits
Let’s not forget the new Kits! There’s not one, not two, but three brand-spanking-new Kits arriving on the same day, January 16th. These Kits are Secret Sanctuary, Casanova Cave, and Comfy Gamer. The third Kit was created in collaboration with lilsimsie. Plus, there are plenty more Kits to come after these three!
The Sims Celebratory Merch
If you like to shop The Sims, there is some new merch arriving on the official store, designed to celebrate 25 years of The Sims. These will become available from the store from February 5th.

There are a lot of things to look out for, including visual updates, performance updates, plus the usual bug fixes. To learn more, you can read the official patch notes.
