The Sims 4 Base Game to be Permanently Free on All Platforms

Nearly a decade after its initial release, EA has announced that the Sims 4 base game will be free to play starting October 18th 2022. In addition, existing players will receive a free kit redeemable in-game for a limited time only.

The Sims 4 Base Game to be Permanently Free on All PlatformsEA announced today that The Sims 4 base game, currently available to purchase for $19.99, will become permanently free to play on all platforms starting October 18th, 2022. Eight years since release date, this move has been made to ‘welcome in more players than ever to create new stories, and explore without boundaries’.

This unprecedented move to make The Sims 4 free is expected to bring a new player base to the game, which has received criticism in the past for being expensive and inaccessible. With the base game free, new players will have access to the main features of the beloved life simulator, plus the ability to use custom content to customize the game without the need for expansion packs.

Additionally, existing players can redeem the Desert Luxe Kit (worth $4.99) for free until October 17th by logging into the game and claiming the pack through the main menu. The pack contains oasis themed furniture designed by community creators for the first time.

It should be noted that while the base game of The Sims 4 will be free, all expansion, game, and stuff packs (as well as kits) will remain the same price. More details are expected to follow in a livestream on October 18, 2022, at 10 am PDT via The Sims YouTube and Twitch channels.
