Another Expansion Pack has almost arrived for The Sims 4, the For Rent Expansion, which will be available from 7th December. The release of an Expansion also brings a new base game update to get you ready for the arrival of For Rent. These free new additions may not seem anything major, but they will save some headaches for players. Here’s everything you need to know.
Sink Assignments
Players of The Sims 4 might be aware of a minor annoyance in the game when it comes to Sims and their sinks. When they go to wash up dishes in sinks, instead of going to the nearest one, such as the kitchen sink, they’ll use a bathroom one instead. However, this update resolves this problem.
You can now assign any sink in The Sims 4 for it to be either a kitchen or bathroom sink. You can also make a sink both (this is the default setting for all sinks). If it’s a kitchen sink, your Sims will wash dishes with it, but if it’s assigned as a bathroom sink, your Sim will use it to wash their hands. A sink assigned to All (both kitchen and bathroom) will be used to wash their hands and dishes.
Switching Control Between Households in Live Mode
Normally in The Sims 4, if you want to switch between households, you have to jump into Manage Worlds and select the household that way. However, this update adds some more control to players to make things more convenient.
In Live Mode, you can switch control to another household by selecting the front door of any occupied property and selecting Switch Control to this Household. This feature applies to any occupied property, not just For Rent‘s Residential Rentals.
New Base Game Clothes
Like many updates before for The Sims 4, this one includes a few new clothing items for the base game. One includes a new unisex casual robe outfit. The other is a set of new pyjamas, which comes in a separate matching top and bottom. This is available for child Sims and older, and is also unisex.
- With this update, you get some cozy new pyjamas for your Sims.
- There’s also this robe outfit for older Sims.
Updated Base Game Shoe Rack
This is another additional feature free for The Sims 4 base game. The two shoe racks (known as the Men’s Shoe Rack and Women’s Shoe Rack) have been upgraded so they’re no longer just decorative objects. They are now interactable. With the shoe racks, you can now assign whether Sims wear shoes or slippers in the house, or no footwear at all.
Bug Fixes
There wouldn’t be an update for The Sims 4 without the usual bug fixes. There’s a lot to list, so here’s just a handful of the fixes with this update. For the complete list of bug fixes, see the official patch notes.
- Child Sims with the Genius trait will no longer get the Want to Solve Hard Problems, a self-interaction only available to Genius Sims who are Teen or older.
- If your Sim has a Fear of Fire, they won’t always start fires whenever they try to cook something.
- Sims won’t autonomously use their phones all the time now.
- Sims will be able to finish writing songs.
- Randomized Sims won’t have body hair as much as before.
- Sims who have invited themselves over should now knock on the door instead of just barging into a property.
- Dormant plants won’t revert back to dirt, but just stop growing until they come back into season. They’ll also be Dormant when they’re meant to be, when they’re not in season. (Seasons Expansion)
- Sims should now only do the Cowpoke Dance when the Ranch radio is playing, so you’ll see them doing the Cowpoke much less frequently. (Horse Ranch Expansion)
- For Rent has a bug fix as well, even though it’s not officially out yet. Rent should no longer go into negatives or be excessively high.
