The new Motherlode season has just begun in The Sims 4, and we have already received something big to kick it all off: the reveal trailer for The Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies Expansion Pack. The 18th Expansion Pack for The Sims 4 will be released on March 6th on PC via EA App and Steam, Mac via Origin, PlayStation 4 | 5, Xbox One | Xbox Series X/S, and Epic Games Store for $39.99.

Let’s break down everything you can expect from The Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies.

Running a Business

Sims being able to run their own businesses isn’t new to The Sims 4. With the Get to Work Expansion, Sims could run businesses such as bakeries and emporiums. However, The Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies looks to take this to another level.

  • Businesses can be run from home or at a separate location with the new Small Business system.
  • Different areas of a Lot can be assigned based on who can use them: residential, open to the public, or employee only zones.
  • Sims can purchase a Small Business Venue if they would rather host their business away from home.
  • Businesses can be customized by naming them, assigning a logo, and selecting the activities and businesses that take place there.
  • Business owners can get their own family members involved with helping out, or they can recruit employees.
  • Ticket Kiosks are available to place at a business if you wish to charge visiting Sims.
  • If your Sim wants to pass on their knowledge of their chosen trade, they can with the ability to provide classes and lectures. Students who actively partake in these lessons will earn Mastery Perks, rewarding them as they become highly skilled.
  • Business owners can unlock Business Perks that grant benefits such as new interactions and effects.
  • Owners can also decide how to manage their business. Do they go by the book, or will they cut corners?
  • A Sim’s Business Renown is important. Are they looking to be a Schemer, Dreamer, or just want to remain Neutral and make some money?

New Skills

The Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies Expansion introduces two new skills: Tattooing and Pottery. These can be used by Sims in their businesses to make a profit from their expertise, whilst also having the opportunity to share their knowledge with others.

Tattooing

Tattoos aren’t new to The Sims 4, but physically applying tattoos is. The art of tattoos has been given an upgrade with Businesses & Hobbies.

  • Before now, it could only be done in Create-A-Sim. Now though, Sims can wield a tattoo gun and get inking!
  • Tattoos can now be pre-made, custom-made, or dedicated.
  • Custom tattoos are made possible thanks to the new Tattoo Paint Mode, where you can create as many custom-designed tattoos as you wish.
  • Tattoos custom-designed by players can be shared with other players.
  • Gaining skill in Tattooing unlocks new stamps and stencils, and increases the success of inking new tattoos.
  • Businesses & Hobbies allows you to layer tattoos, paving way for lots of creativity.
Tattoo parlors are now a place of business, among many others with Businesses & Hobbies.

Pottery

The art of pottery previously appeared in The Sims 2 FreeTime Expansion Pack, and it’s now making a comeback in The Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies.

  • Pottery is conducted at the new pottery wheel.
  • Sims can create masterpieces such as plant pots, tea sets, incense burners, and more.
  • Completed pottery pieces can then be glazed, aka customized in a variety of colors and designs.
  • Sims with the highest Pottery skill levels can also use broken pieces to make the Japanese art of Kintsugi.

The New World of Nordhaven

No new Expansion Pack of The Sims 4 is complete without a brand-new world to play in and showcase all the new gameplay. In the case of Businesses & Hobbies, that world is Nordhaven. This place includes two neighborhoods, Gammelvik and Iverstad. One unique feature of Nordhaven is Hobby Meetups, where like-minded Sims can gather, find inspiration, and maybe even get new mentors to help them pursue their dreams.

New Expansion, new world.
