More detailed information has been revealed via a new gameplay trailer for The Sims 4 Adventure Awaits Expansion Pack, which is set to be released on October 2nd. This trailer looked further into new gameplay such as the returning Imaginary Friend, as well as Formative Moments and organizing your own Getaways. Imaginary Friends
The gameplay trailer for The Sims 4 Adventure Awaits Expansion was narrated by an Imaginary Friend, a new feature for the DLC. This isn’t the first time Imaginary Friends have appeared in The Sims, having first made their mark in The Sims 3 Generations Expansion Pack. However, while there are similarities, it appears that The Sims 4‘s version will have some improvements over its previous appearance.
In Adventure Awaits, four different types of Imaginary Friends can be purchased, with different personalities and behaviors. They can be manually brought to life by their owners and be interacted with, such as playing various games together. Imaginary Friends also have additional interactions, such as making them dolls again when a Sim has finished playing with them, saying “goodbye” to their Imaginary Friend (aka they disappear), or even transforming them into real Sims.
Gibbi Point is the home of Getaways, but with other packs, you can host them elsewhere with Custom Venues.
Formative Moments
The Sims 4 Adventure Awaits expands on gameplay specifically for Child Sims, so they can further develop their skills and personalities during their childhood years. One such method is with the new Formative Moments feature.
The trailer demonstrated one young Sim with a specific Formative Moments Challenge focusing on mastering the new Archery activity, with goals such as winning a certain number of Archery contests and obtaining a special bow. Completing this challenge leads to unlocking a bonus trait that can permanently influence a Sim’s behavior, such as being more Focused in this Sim’s case.
Formative Moments is mentioned to be inspired by the choices you make for your Sims through gameplay. It looks as if they’ll function similar to Bucket Lists from The Sims 4 Life & Death Expansion, either appearing randomly or you getting to assign Formative Moments and Challenges to your Sims.

Getaways
The main feature of The Sims 4 Adventure Awaits Expansion is the addition of Getaways, where Sims can “get away from it all”, i.e. the everyday tedium of life such as work, chores, and bills.
Pre-Built Getaways and Venues
The new world, Gibbi Point, includes three pre-built ready-to-go Getaways: Revive & Thrive, Love Highland, and Camp Gibbi Gibbi. You can, however, create your own Getaway venues, or place them via the Gallery created by other players.
How Getaways Work
Getaways seem to work almost like scheduled events, with a timetable of activities. For example, the Romantic Competition included sleeping, having breakfast, enjoying the outdoors, having dinner, and Mix and Mingle, each with set starting times. There are also rules to look out for, such as Competition Eliminations.
Lots of new features await, including new pool and fitness activities.
Planning Getaways and Schedule Presets
You can plan your own Getaways using Schedule Presets as a baseline to get you started. Presets from the trailer include Fitness Retreat, Outdoor Kids Camp, Romantic Competition, and more. These Presets have pre-made schedules and roles, which can be changed and customized. You can add or remove timeslots, or create new roles.
You then choose where your Getaway will take place by picking a venue, how many nights it will last, and when it will start. You can even toggle for it to occur weekly, choosing the day.
There’s also the option to add rules to your Getaway, although this appears to be optional. Rules include Activity Shuffle, Grindset Mindset, House of Grudges, and Love is in the Air. There are also elimination rules such as Child Skills, Survival of the Fittest, Popularity, and Player Choice.
Creating Custom Getaway Venues
With Custom Getaway Venues, you can modify the schedules and change features such as roles, name the schedule, set the main activity, and set the behavior for visitors. You can then host your own Getaways. If you have other DLC for The Sims 4 installed, you gain access to more customization options. For example, the trailer showed what you could do with Vampires Game Pack, Seasons Expansion, and Island Living Expansion installed, namely an island survival challenge for vampires.
