In recent news, well-renowned film critic and writer Jeff Sneider confirmed through X that Margot Robbie is producing a film about The Sims. LuckyChap Entertainment, the production company co-founded by Robbie, and Vertigo Entertainment are going to produce the now highly-anticipated film. Kate Herron is also set to direct this film adaptation of The Sims. She previously directed the first season of the Disney+ series Loki. Herron will co-write with Briony Redman. This isn’t the first writing collaboration for the two as they previously wrote an episode for Doctor Who.
There are still no suggested names for who is going to be part of the cast. None of the sources or production companies announced a possible release date. Sources also told Variety that the development of Margot Robbie’s The Sims project is still early. No studio has landed the film yet too. However, it won’t be hard to find a studio excited for this project since LuckyChap has worked with several major studios such as Warner Bros and Amazon Studios. Plus, they have an upcoming film with Universal. The Hollywood Reporter also reported that Electronic Arts, The Sims’ publisher, will “be involved in a creative and producing capacity.”

Margot Robbie and The Sims Film Finding Success
After the success that Robbie found with Barbie, fans are predicting that The Sims film will find similar success. The Sims getting a film is a little surprising due to the nature of the game where there is no specific plot to follow. It still remains one of the best-selling video games franchises of all time, with more than 200 million copies. The popularity behind the game will probably play a role in the film finding success when released.
Other reasons behind people predicting that the film will be successful is LuckyChap’s recent hits. Along with Barbie, they also produced the controversial film Saltburn from director Emerald Fennell. The idea of Magot Robbie producing a film about The Sims is also appealing due to the nature of the video game. It offers creativity and several examples of human interaction which are themes that goes hand in hand with Barbie. The possibilities of The Sims are endless therefore there is a lot of room for creativity in the upcoming film. The different worlds in The Sims 4 and the many DLCs the game has will be enough to give ideas to the team behind the film adaptation.
