First Look at The Sims 4 Life and Death Expansion Pack Through Reveal Trailer

We already know that The Sims 4 Life and Death Expansion Pack was going to happen when it was revealed at the start of the To Be Continued season for The Sims 4. However, it’s only just today (October 3rd) that a trailer was released, showcasing the brand-new Expansion Pack for the first time. Thanks to the trailer, we got a good look at what we can expect with Life and Death

The Sims 4 Life and Death Expansion Pack is fittingly releasing on October 31st and will be made available for all platforms, including PC via Steam and EA App, Origin via Mac, PlayStation 4 | 5, Xbox One | Xbox Series X / S, and Epic Games Store. The Expansion, like all other Expansion Packs for The Sims 4, will be priced at $39.99. What Is The Sims 4 Life and Death All About?

You might be wondering what this Expansion Pack entails. Essentially, it explores life beyond death in The Sims 4. In the game right now, we have Sims dying of various means and turning into ghosts, but Life and Death will take it to a whole other level (just like Lovestruck did with Romance).

New World: Ravenwood

There’s a new world coming with Life and Death! This one is called Ravenwood, made up of three neighborhoods, with the world having a special connection to the afterlife. Ravenwood is full of ghostly Sims, and is also home to a graveyard with a crypt. There’s plenty to find in Ravenwood, including a casket seller, grave maker, haunted houses, and a Wishing Well. Ravenwood is also home to new festivals: the Ravenwood Family Day, Crow’s Crossing Celebration of Life, and Moon Revelry.

There's a brand-new world to play in: Ravenwood, home to the living and the dead.

Living Life… and Death

This Expansion Pack isn’t just about death, but life as well, hence it being called Life and Death. With the new Soul’s Journey system, Sims can make the most of their time while they’re alive by completing goals. Having a successful Soul’s Journey can lead to Sims earning the ability to be Reborn, where they’ll learn past childhood development skills, traits and milestones. They may also feel a connection to Sims of their past life.

Sims will be able to put together their own Bucket Lists, making up their own goals and desires as they go along. This can even lead into their afterlife, where they’ll have unfinished business.

Sims who struggle with leaving life behind can linger on as ghosts. They can choose to wreck havoc or make themselves useful to the living. Being playable characters, ghost Sims can customize their look and learn new abilities.

If you get this pack before December 12th, you'll get 3 exclusive items in the game.

Undertaker Career and Reaper Profession

With The Sims 4 Life and Death Expansion Pack, there are not one, but two brand-new careers. Will your Sims be tempted into the career of an undertaker, or be enticed by the profession of the Grim Reaper?

The Undertaker path is a classic career with plenty of work-based activities, such as embalming the dead, grave digging, and helping to organize funerals. Like many careers in The Sims 4, it will offer Sims two branches: Mortician or Funeral Director.

As for the Reaper Profession, Sims start out as interns (or Grimterns) and eventually work their way up to being the Reaper. Of course, Sims in this business will be working with none other than the Grim Reaper. Wannabe Reapers will practice their art by training with dummies, as well as determining causes of deaths and maintaining the all-important scythes. As Reapers become more experienced, they’ll decide the fate of Sims, whether they’ll be reaped or returned to life.

Other New Additions

That’s not all! There’s plenty more to discover with The Sims 4 Life and Death. There’s a new Ghost Historian Aspiration, horror novels, Ghost Whisperer Reward Trait, Hallowed Grounds Lot Trait, three new traits (Macabe, Chased by Death, and Skeptic), Thanatology Skill, and a new way to die: Death by Murder of Crows.

Death: Before, Now, and After

Sims can prepare for death ahead of time by creating their own Will, where they can leave precious items to certain Sims, leave personal messages, state how they want their remains handled, set funeral plans, and assign the care of children and pets. If all the household dies, they can leave their money to charity or another household.

When a Sim dies, Life and Death now introduces four types of grief: Denial, Holding It Together, Anger, and Blues. Whichever grief a Sim experiences is dependent on their traits and relationship with the deceased. Grief isn’t just triggered by death, but also other drastic moments in a Sim’s life, such as divorce, losing a job, and losing a pet. Sims can find ways to get through their grief, by getting counselling or reaching out to other Sims.

Funerals can now be planned and organized. There’s a lot to sort out, such as venue, the date, activities, who will attend, what the attendees will wear, and the deceased themselves. Funeral activities include lighting candles, planting something, serving up food, and giving eulogies. It’s not just funerals where Sims can honor the dead. They can set up memorial displays with the deceased’s portrait on show, choose their own urn or tombstone, decorate a gravesite, leave a message on a memorial statue, and inter urns in crypts.

Funerals are a new event that Sims can organize and host.

More information will be shown about The Sims 4 Life and Death Expansion Pack when another trailer arrives on October 17th, this one diving deeper into the gameplay, so stay tuned!
