Ranking the Best Kits for The Sims 4

Out of all the extensive DLC you can get for The Sims 4, the ones that divide the fandom the most are probably Kits. Many feel these are pointless, a waste of money, just a quick cash-grab, and that time and effort would be better put into making more Expansions, Game Packs, and Stuff Packs. I myself admit that I was in this camp, until I got The Sims 4 Desert Luxe Kit for free and saw that Kits did have something to offer. Since then, my Kit collection has grown, and I now own at least half the Kits on offer for The Sims 4. I even wrote an article exploring the pros and cons of The Sims 4 Kits.

In light of my recent rankings of The Sims 4 Expansions, Game Packs, and Stuff Packs, I felt I had to do a ranking for all the Kits released so far as well. For me, this will probably be the most interesting one I’ve done so far, since Kits are so divisive. As of Late February 2025, there are a total of 40 Kits available for The Sims 4, all offering something different. Let’s go through all of them and decide which ones I personally like the best. I’ll also include the Kits I don’t (yet) have. These will be situated at the bottom of my ranking, but I’ll order them based on how likely I would get them one day.

Castle Estate Kit

The Sims 4 Castle Estate Kit is the first of many Kits I don’t currently own. Why is this one at the very bottom of my list? Don’t get me wrong, I find castles fascinating. I’ve visited enough of them in my lifetime and they all come with amazing stories and history. I also thoroughly enjoyed playing The Sims Medieval where as a royal you can live in a castle. It’s just that in the context of The Sims 4, I’m not that worried. I do like building my own Lots now and again, but castles aren’t one of them. That’s why, until I do decide to build a castle, Castle Estate Kit is not part of my collection.

Courtyard Oasis Kit

I find exotic items fascinating, such as the ones included in The Sims 4 Courtyard Oasis Kit. The stuff in this Kit reminds me of the items you got with The Sims 2 Mansion & Garden Stuff. However, the reason I haven’t got this Kit yet is because I can’t see myself using it that much. Saying that, the content packaged with this Kit is very attractive, and I like that you get furniture, decorations, lighting, architecture items, and floor and wall patterns to complete that beautiful exotic outdoor space. Perhaps one day I will be tempted to get it.

Bust the Dust Kit

• This Kit doesn’t capture my attention enough to get it

Bust the Dust was one of the very first Kits released for The Sims 4, alongside Country Kitchen and Throwback Fit. The idea was that each of these Kits was a different kind of Kit. Bust the Dust was labeled as a Gameplay Kit, and as to date remains the only one of its kind.

The Sims 4 Bust the Dust is very unique. It includes five new objects, all of which are vacuum cleaners, and the idea is that a Lot can be “invaded” with dust bunnies. The goal is to hoover up all these dust bunnies using the cleaners. There are even two new Aspirations that come exclusively with this Kit. One focuses on keeping an immaculately tidy Lot, while the other embraces a messy lifestyle.

So why have I not (yet) invested in Bust the Dust? Simply because it doesn’t interest me enough. I don’t really mind cleaning in The Sims 4; there is something strangely therapeutic about it. However, I just don’t want to be laden with more chore-like gameplay. My Sims have enough to deal with already!

Industrial Loft Kit

The Sims 4 Industrial Loft Kit is another one I have yet to get. I’m not that big on industrial-style items, although browsing through the list of available objects, they do look quite good. Perhaps one day I’ll change my mind. These objects would look especially good in apartments.

Basement Treasures Kit

Basements are a cool thing to have in The Sims 4. They can serve as extra space for your Sims, or cool hangout spots. If you want to create a basement setting where old stuff is kept, then The Sims 4 Basement Treasures Kit is what you’re looking for. It even includes things like an old TV and worn-out sofa. The reason I don’t personally have this Kit is that I don’t normally worry with basements in The Sims 4, although if I did change my mind, I know this Kit is available.

Everyday Clutter Kit

I actually quite like clutter objects in The Sims 4. They can really fill a space and make it feel lived in. So why then have I not got Everyday Clutter Kit? To be honest, with all the packs I have installed, I’m quite happy with the amount of clutter items available to me, so I don’t really feel the need to get this specific Kit. Maybe one day, but for now, I’m good.

Cozy Bistro Kit

For some reason, I actually thought I had bought The Sims 4 Cozy Bistro Kit, but as it turned out, I hadn’t. It does look quite interesting. This is probably one of those Kits I will get one day.

Country Kitchen Kit

When the first three Kits were released back in 2021, Country Kitchen actually caught my eye. Why? Because with The Sims 2 Seasons Expansion, it included a bunch of country-themed objects, including for the kitchen, and I loved it. And The Sims 4 Country Kitchen Kit reminded me of those items.

So why didn’t I get it? I might do one day, but I felt there wasn’t enough content to make me want to get it. And to be honest, The Sims 2 Seasons‘ kitchen stuff was better. Additionally, with all the packs I have for The Sims 4, I can use their stuff to build country kitchens already, so this Kit felt a little pointless in that regard.

Décor to the Max Kit

I nearly got The Sims 4 Décor to the Max Kit when it was first announced and released. I was really attracted to the bright, bold, and beautiful stylish objects. I’m not sure why I ultimately didn’t get it. Maybe the objects were a little too flamboyant? But when I look back on this Kit now, I feel more tempted to get it. Perhaps one day (soon?) I’ll cave in.

Riviera Retreat Kit

The Sims 4 Riviera Retreat was another Kit I very nearly got but didn’t. Looking back, I kind of wish I had. The objects in this Kit look so stylish. Perhaps because I don’t tend to worry about my outdoor spaces that much, I didn’t think I would use it much. This is definitely a Kit I’m considering getting sometime in the future.

Simtimates Collection Kit

With The Sims 4, I love anything that adds new nightwear. I love pyjamas. So why did I pass on The Sims 4 Simtimates Collection Kit? At the time it came out, I wasn’t interested. I’m not that big on lingerie wear. Saying that though, Simtimates does add some pyjama-type items. It might also be nice to give Sims some more sophisticated wear for the bedroom. Simtimates is one of those Kits, along with a few others, that I’ve had my eye on getting, and perhaps I will some day. I should also note that this is the only Kit (to date) that I don’t own that’s a Fashion Kit.

Modern Menswear Kit

Finally! We’ve got to the first Kit on this list that I actually own! But why have I put The Sims 4 Modern Menswear last? I actually find it a shame that I did, but it’s one of those cases where the other Kits I use more or like more.

I’m not saying at all that I don’t like Modern Menswear. I remember I was attracted to this Kit because the fashions looked really cool, and was different to what we normally get for masculine Sims. It’s just that I don’t tend to dress my Sims much in these outfits.

Looking back through the screenshots and items though, perhaps I should have my Sims wear these more often? It’s actually making me want to go back into the game and dress my Sims in these outfits!

Blooming Rooms Kit

I myself am surprised I don’t rank Blooming Rooms very high, but it’s probably because like Modern Menswear, I don’t use the stuff from this Kit much. I do like placing plants indoors and out at my Sims’ homes, but I just find Blooming Rooms a tad OTT. That’s just me though.

Also, I have a weird recollection that I got this Kit for free for some reason, but I can’t remember why. I think it was available for free for a short period of time and I decided to take advantage. Otherwise I probably wouldn’t have bothered.

Business Chic Kit

The Sims 4 Business Chic is one of the newest Kits in this ranking, and I did actually review this along with Refined Living Room. So why did I put it so low? It’s simply because I don’t think I’ll use this stuff that much. I can see my Sims wearing this if they work in business or are really wealthy, but otherwise it might look a bit out-of-place for my usually-suburban-living Sims.

Refined Living Room Kit

Desert Luxe Kit

Now I definitely remember getting The Sims 4 Desert Luxe Kit for free. This Kit was made available for free to players who already owned The Sims 4 when it became free-to-play a while ago. A free Kit? How can you say no? This was actually the very first Kit I got for The Sims 4, and made me realize that Kits had something to offer. Although I don’t use the stuff from Desert Luxe that much, I still really like it, and do have plans to use it in the future, so I’m glad I’ve got it.

Fashion Street Kit

I really hate myself for not using the stuff from The Sims 4 Fashion Street more, because I actually really like it. I love the whole Indian clothing, with all the different beautiful colors and patterns, as well as the accessories. Looking back at this one makes me really want to dress my Sims up in these outfits.

Cozy Kitsch Kit

Honestly, I am struggling to think of anything negative to say about The Sims 4 Cozy Kitsch Kit. I remember reviewing it not that long ago and I actually quite liked it. I haven’t used the objects for a while, but it’s probably more of the fact that I’ve forgotten about it. When you’ve got 50+ packs installed for The Sims 4 and tons of objects, it can be easy to forget new stuff you have! However, looking through this Kit has made me want to go back and use it again.

Greenhouse Haven Kit

• Not a gardener? Probably not appealing enough
• May need plenty of space to build the greenhouse

I remember the one time I built a greenhouse in my game, looking forward to using it – and then my game crashed. Typical! I didn’t get the chance to save, so after losing all that work I did building my greenhouse, I couldn’t be bothered to do it again. It was a shame as well. Anyway, that was one time and my game used to crash before I upgraded my computer recently, so hopefully that was a one-off!

Fortunately, this incident hasn’t put me off liking The Sims 4 Greenhouse Haven Kit. It’s got everything you could want from building a greenhouse in your game. I used to love the greenhouses that came with The Sims 2 Seasons, so this was a delightful addition to The Sims 4. I also often have Sims who dabble in gardening, so for me this was a nice extra to have. Greenhouse Haven gets a green thumbs-up from me!

Artist Studio Kit

When I saw there was a Kit with items specifically for having your own art studio in The Sims 4, I was thrilled. I’m quite artistic, and I like my Sims to be artistic too, so with The Sims 4 Artist Studio Kit, having a dedicated space for painting and woodwork was a neat idea.

Secret Sanctuary Kit

• Buy/Build mode stuff probably not as good as CAS

On January 16th 2025, The Sims 4 got two Kits, one that was masculine and inspired by Don Lothario, the other feminine and inspired by Bella Goth. The latter is Secret Sanctuary Kit. You might find it odd that I ranked the masculine Kit over the feminine one. I do like The Sims 4 Secret Sanctuary, especially the new stuff you get in Create-A-Sim. There’s some seriously stylish stuff for your Sims! The reason I ranked this lower though is because I felt that while the new Buy/Build objects weren’t bad, they weren’t as good as the CAS content.

Storybook Nursery Kit

I love it whenever we get new stuff for kids in The Sims 4, whether it’s new toys, activities, decor, or Create-A-Sim stuff. Storybook Nursery is perfect for that then. It includes stuff for all the young life stages in The Sims 4, from newborn babies to young children. I especially love the mix of pastel and dark colored swatches, so it feels like we have a lot of choice and creativity in decking out kids’ rooms. The old-fashioned look of these items are also a welcome addition because before, most of the kids’ stuff was modern, so it’s nice to have some more variety.

Party Essentials Kit

I’m not really into parties, both in The Sims and the real world. However, that doesn’t stop me from liking The Sims 4 Party Essentials Kit. I think it’s because I like the items on offer, and they’re all fun and in bright cheery colors to liven up any party. If I do ever host a party in my game, I’ll make sure to remember this Kit.

Urban Homage Kit

I really like The Sims 4 Urban Homage Kit. Perhaps it’s because I was born in the 90s, although I was really too young to remember that decade. Even so, I like all the CAS stuff that comes with this Kit, especially the bold colors and designs. It works well for everyday casual wear, or if your Sim is heading to a party. This Kit also came out the same time as Party Essentials, and I think the two Kits work really well together.

Little Campers Kit

I know I mentioned I don’t use the Little Campers stuff much, but I still really like this Kit. It’s fun, cool, and caters to kids. Having an outdoor space for kids to enjoy hanging out and sleepovers? Sweet!

Casanova Cave Kit

Actually, that single downside I listed isn’t too bad when you think about it, because it still feels like you get enough with Casanova Cave Kit. Between this and its sister Kit, Secret Sanctuary, I actually favor this one slightly more because both the CAS and BB stuff is better, in my opinion. 

Incheon Arrivals Kit

That negative I listed does seem a bit lame, and it probably is. Honestly, I really like what comes with The Sims 4 Incheon Arrivals. I think at first I didn’t use the stuff much, but overtime I have used it more. I like the urban design of the clothing, and the neutral color scheme. I also like that it’s smart-yet-casual, with a mix of streetwear and chill-out-at-home threads. Generally, this Kit just has some really cool styles.

Goth Galore Kit

I’m surprised myself at how much I like The Sims 4 Goth Galore Kit. I’m certainly not a goth myself! I did have my hair dyed dark purple once, but that probably doesn’t count. Anyway, I was pleased that a goth Kit was added to The Sims 4 because I did feel we needed more goth fashion, and this Kit actually does this very well. I should also mention that this was a community voted Kit, alongside Castle Estate. I did actually vote for the other CAS option, which was rainbow outfits, so I was a tiny bit disappointed that the other style won, but when I saw Goth Galore, I knew the community had voted well.

Book Nook Kit

This is another Kit I really admire. The Sims 4 Book Nook Kit is really neat in that it includes everything you need to build a book lover or writer’s paradise. You can surround yourself with books in a cozy setting. I just like the general vibe that Book Nook provides.

Modern Luxe Kit

In a way, The Sims 4 Modern Luxe Kit reminds me a bit of The Sims 2 Glamour Life Stuff. That Stuff Pack wasn’t half bad, and neither is Modern Luxe. I don’t normally go for luxury in The Sims 4, but the items in this Kit are really sweet and stylish. It’s kind of hard to resist using this stuff, and why shouldn’t my Sims have a bit of luxury?

Grunge Revival Kit

I surprisingly liked The Sims 4 Goth Galore, but I probably like even more Grunge Revival Kit. No, I’m not a grunge person either, but I just like this stuff a little better. I especially like dressing my teen Sims up in this stuff. It feels like you get quite a lot packaged in this Kit, even if it is the same amount as any other Fashion Kit.

Bathroom Clutter Kit

I don’t always bother with decorating bathrooms. They’re usually just a place where my Sims go to have a shower, bath, use the toilet, wash their hands, or use a mirror. Bathrooms serve more as a practical means. However, why shouldn’t bathrooms be a bit more interesting? What if you could make them feel more lived in and homely, like the rest of your Sim’s home? That’s why I like The Sims 4 Bathroom Clutter Kit. I previously mentioned that Everyday Clutter didn’t interest me enough, but the bathroom version did. I just like the variety of stuff you get with this Kit.

Comfy Gamer Kit

I love The Sims 4 Comfy Gamer Kit. This appeals to me perfectly, and I have plenty of Sims, young and old, who enjoy computers and gaming, so this is something I’d use quite a bit. I know I mentioned about this Kit being a little “girly”, but that’s not entirely true. There are swatches other than pastel ones, such as black, if you want to get a more neutral look.

Throwback Fit Kit

I love The Sims 4 Throwback Fit Kit. It’s actually the only original Kit I currently own. I just love the range of clothing, especially their bright and bold swatches. Usually when I style my Sims, when it comes to fitness wear, this is my go-to range.

Moonlight Chic Kit

I seriously love The Sims 4 Moonlight Chic Kit. When I first saw it, I liked it, but when I bought it, I loved it. It comes with a lot of great outfits that I frequently dress my Sims in. They also look great for several occasions, whether it be casual everyday wear, slightly smarter wear, parties, even formal wear. You can get a lot of use out of Moonlight Chic.

Carnaval Streetwear Kit

I actually disagree with my own downside. I love The Sims 4 Carnaval Streetwear, which I actually find bizarre as I previously stated that I’m not a party goer in The Sims 4. That is true, but I love this Kit’s stuff so much, I have my Sims wear these items anyway. I mostly use this stuff for party wear, but they also look great for hot weather outfits.

First Fits Kit

Poolside Splash Kit

I’ve heard that a lot of people don’t care for this Kit (or Kits in general, let’s be honest). I’m certainly not one of them. I absolutely love The Sims 4 Poolside Splash Kit, so much that it’s made it to number 3 on my ranking. Why do I like it so much? For a long time, I found the swimwear in The Sims 4 decent, until this came along, and now whenever my Sims need swimwear, these are my go-to items. I just struggle to find anything bad to say about this Kit personally.

Pastel Pop Kit

I love, love, LOVE The Sims 4 Pastel Pop Kit. These are my go-to set whenever I’m designing a teen’s room. I just love the different objects and their variety of swatches. It’s so pretty!

Sweet Slumber Party Kit

Phew! Finally, we made it to my number one Kit for The Sims 4, and that is Sweet Slumber Party. I was VERY excited to learn we were finally getting DLC dedicated to pyjamas, which I love. The pyjamas in The Sims 4 are pretty decent, but the stuff with this Kit are just excellent. I was a bit worried when I got it that I’d be disappointed and it wouldn’t be what I thought, but it was much better than I hoped. Now whenever I get my Sims dressed up for bed, these items are my most used. I just wish this stuff came ten years ago! Thank you Trillyke for doing this Kit – seriously!
