Ondarion in The Sims 4 Royalty & Legacy Expansion Pack is full of surprises, scandals, and a special series of challenges called Anansi’s Trials. In these four trials, you must complete four different tasks in order, which ultimately earns you a special trait: Threadshifter.
However, while each trial suggests what you need to do, the actual task you must complete isn’t always that obvious. This guide will take you through all four of Anansi’s Trials so you can get the powerful Threadshifter trait.
1. Why You Should Do Anansi’s Trials
Anansi’s Trials are an optional side quest you can do in The Sims 4 Royalty & Legacy. However, completing them is worthwhile, especially if your Sim works in the Noble Career.
Finishing all the Trials earns the Threadshifter trait, which allows you to shift a Favor: Commoner and Royalty, which can make things easier as a Noble. You’ll also receive a promotion in the Noble Career.
Having the Threadshifter trait gives you an advantage in the Noble Career.
1.1. Have Medium-High Writing Skill for Final Trial
The Trials don’t take too long to complete, the longest being the Fourth Trial, in which you must write an Excellent quality book. Having a head start in Writing Skill increases your chances of writing a better quality book, saving time and effort, allowing you to finish the Trials quicker and get the trait.
2. Where to Find Anansi’s Well in Ondarion
The well is the only way to initiate Anansi’s Trials. It is located in the neighborhood Dambele in Ondarion, near the Zambira Market community lot. Look beyond the viaduct and the well is situated at the top end. The well has some spiders hanging around, but they don’t pose any harm to your Sim.
The well is located in Dambele. Go past the viaduct and look for a long pergola.
3. How to Start a Trial
You need to complete all four of Anansi’s Trials in order.
To begin one of Anansi’s Trials, select the well and choose the trial that is currently available. If you’re just starting, only the first trial is available. Once the first trial is done, the next becomes available. Only the currently available trial can be chosen. All the other trials will be greyed out.
Select the trial to initiate it. You then have three days to complete it.
3.1. What Happens When You Fail to Complete a Trial
Once you start a trial, you have three days to complete it. Failure to complete the trial in time results in an Embarrassed Moodlet, but this is only temporary. You are able to have another go at the trial should you fail.
While an Anansi Trial is active, your Sim gets a Moodlet tracking the time left to complete it. This Moodlet gives your Sim a Focused Mood.
After completing a trial, you can start the next one immediately.

- A Moodlet appears while a trial is active to remind you of how long you’ve got.

- A trial can be failed by not completing it in the time limit or failing the given task.
4. Trial One: Weave a Story Walkthrough
Hint: Spin a tale with wit and weight. Speak a story, and let Anansi decide your fate.
For the first trial, Weave a Story, you must successfully tell another Sim a story. It can be any kind of story, including an Outrageous Story and Funny Story. They usually fall under Friendly > Stories, or Funny > Stories.
After completing the first trial, you get a Confident Moodlet for 8 hours. The second trial, Offer a Secret, also becomes available.
Find a Sim to talk to and tell them a story.
5. Trial Two: Offer a Secret Walkthrough
Hint: Whisper what hides beneath your smile. Hold a secret too tightly and the web may twist, but share it and Anansi’s favor finds you.
For the second trial, Offer a Secret, you must discover another Sim’s secret and then share it with someone else. This takes a few steps to complete.
- Head to a community lot where lots of Sims visit, such as a Lounge or Bar.
- Introduce yourself to several Sims, get to know them a little through Friendly and Funny socials.
- If the prompt is available, select Ask for Secret About. Choose a Sim from the list.
- With your new secret, talk to another Sim and choose Gossip > Share Secret About. Pick the learned secret from the list. This final step completes the second trial and unlocks the third.
You get a Moodlet from completing this trial, but only a Fine one.

- Once you’ve got acquainted with a few Sims, you should be able to start asking about secrets.

- Choose a Sim from the list to learn their secret.

- Discovered secrets will be kept in your Notebook.

- Now you have a secret, you just have to share it with someone else to complete the trial.
6. Trial Three: Spin the Web Walkthrough
Hint: Weave a trick. Twist a thread. Let another stumble while you rise. Let Anansi judge if you are clever enough to dance in the web.
Further Hint: Your Sim must attempt a deceitful act under Anansi’s watchful eyes. This trial will reveal if they’re clever, or simply tangled in folly.
6.1. How to Perform a Deceitful Act in The Sims 4
For Anansi’s Third Trial, Spin the Web, you need to commit an act deemed as deceitful in The Sims 4. These can include the following:
- Discover and exploit a Scandal
- Swipe an object (Kleptomaniac Sims only)
- Sabotage an object
- Hack (Programming Skill)
- Perform a social under Mischief
- Use a VooDoo Doll
You must act deceitfully for the third trial. Try exploiting a scandal or performing mischievous socials.
6.2. The Quickest Way to Complete the Third Trial
Do any of the above actions and this should be enough to satisfy Anansi’s Third Trial and unlock the fourth and final one. To get this Trial done quickly, the easiest option is to use any Mischief social on another Sim.
Completing this trial gives your Sim a Focused Moodlet for 8 hours.
7. Trial Four: Fulfill the Thread Walkthrough
Hint: Gather the words that linger in your mind, and bind them to the page. If written with excellence, it will endure gracefully in Anansi’s web.
Further hint: Anansi poses a challenge to write a book worthy of remembrance. Should excellence emerge, rewards await, but if the work falters, so too might its maker.
For the fourth and final Anansi Trial, Fulfill the Thread, you must write a book of Excellent quality.
You’ll have a better chance of writing an Excellent book with a higher Writing Skill.
7.1. How to Write an Excellent Quality Book in The Sims 4
- Buy a computer or visit a library to find one.
- From the computer, select Write > Write Genre Book > Select Genre.
You must finish writing the book, and it must be of Excellent quality. You do not need to publish the book to fulfil the trial.
You have a better chance of writing an Excellent quality book with a higher Writing Skill and choosing a genre unlocked at higher skill level. The book’s quality can sometimes be hit-and-miss, but just keep writing new books. You can also get the Creative Visionary reward trait from the Reward Store to increase the chances of writing a high quality book, if you have 2,000 Satisfaction Points.
If writing is new to you, keep writing new books, publish them for extra money, and you’ll soon produce an Excellent one.
As soon as an Excellent book is written, the final Anansi Trial is completed and you unlock the Threadshifter reward trait. Your Sim also gets a Confident Moodlet lasting 8 hours.
8. Threadshifter Trait Reward and Noble Promotion
Once you finish the fourth and final trial, you automatically earn the Threadshifter trait. This reward trait is especially useful if you are working in the Noble Career. This trait allows you to shift between Favors: Commoner and Royalty. It appears as a self-interaction on your Sim.
Additionally, your Sim will receive a promotion in the Noble Career upon completing all of Anansi’s Trials.
As a Noble Sim, completing Anansi’s Trials is worth it for the Threadshifter trait.
