The Sims 4 Ravenwood World Guide

The Sims 4 Life & Death Expansion Pack explores a Sim’s life before and after death, giving them new ways to make the most of their lives and enriching their life after death, whether it be fulfilling their Soul’s Journeys, working as Grimterns or Undertakers, preparing Wills, or coming back as ghosts with unfinished business. The new world that comes with Life & Death ensures that any Sim’s life (and death) is catered for, and that world is Ravenwood.

Despite the deathly theme of this pack, Ravenwood is not wholly considered a dark world, not like Forgotten Hollow. Apart from the one gloomy and creepy neighborhood, Ravenwood is surprisingly vibrant and a lively place to live, with both the living and the dead residing there. Ravenwood is also huge, with three large neighborhoods to explore. With so much to see, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, which is why this guide has been put together, to give you a tour of Ravenwood.

In this guide, you’ll learn about Ravenwood’s residential and commercial properties, the Sims who live there, and anything significant you need to know about Ravenwood to make the most of your time there.

An Overview of Ravenwood

Ravenwood is the world that comes with The Sims 4 Life & Death Expansion Pack. To fit in with the pack’s theme, this world caters for both the living and the dead. In Ravenwood, you’ll find creepy crypts that you can venture into and explore, spooky festivals that are almost daily, crypts, caskets, gravestones, and a mixed bag of luscious countryside, towns, and bogs. There’s a lot to find in Ravenwood, that’s for sure.

Ravenwood is made up of three neighborhoods, all of them quite large. Mourningvale is the gloomy neighborhood that is home to a vast bog (which you can swim in!), Whispering Glen is a countryside-esque neighborhood and the quietest of the three, and Crow’s Crossing is home to the new Cemetery Lot and a town with cobbled streets.

Climate in Ravenwood (Seasons Expansion)

If you have The Sims 4 Seasons Expansion Pack installed, you might be wondering what the climate is generally like in Ravenwood and what to expect weather-and-temperature-wise. Ravenwood is considered a mild climate world. It never gets ridiculously hot in the summer, so you shouldn’t experience any blistering heatwaves. Also, surprisingly, you won’t expect to see snow in the winter season, so don’t think you’ll be getting to build snowmen or have snowball fights in Ravenwood.

On the whole, you can expect Ravenwood to waver between being warm at most but cool at the coldest. You won’t experience extreme heat or freezing temperatures, but Sims can still become dangerously frozen if they go swimming in the water during colder seasons. As for the weather, you should experience a mix of dry and sunny days, but also rainy weather.

Collectibles in Ravenwood

If you’re a player looking for collectibles such as crystals, wild harvestables, frogs, and fish, Ravenwood will not let you down. There are plenty of collectibles to find, whether you’re building up a collectible collection, want stuff to complete tasks or make items, or just want stuff to sell for money. Here’s a breakdown of what you can find in each of Ravenwood’s neighborhoods:

Tarot Cards

Tarot Cards are a collectible collection unique to Ravenwood. There are 26 altogether to find. They can be obtained by interacting with the world (usually using the Use Intuition interaction), completing errands for Sims known as the Order of Lenore, purchasing from the ghostly merchant Waylon Warez, and exploring the crypts. In the collectibles menu, if you hover over the undiscovered cards, you’ll get a hint on how to get it.

Lots in Ravenwood

One of the main things you’re probably wondering is where you can live in Ravenwood. Are there any good starter homes or luxurious mansions to live in? What are the commercial Lots like, if there are any? That’s what this section is all about. We’ll give you a detailed rundown of all the Lots you can find in Ravenwood, both residential and commercial. 

Crow’s Crossing

Crow’s Crossing is two of the “brighter” neighborhoods in Ravenwood, although this one has both the countryside and a town to explore. There’s a lot to see in Crow’s Crossing, including three festivals, the cemetery, the location of Waylon the merchant, the town hall, and the Well of Longing and Regret (and Edith). We’ll talk more about those things a bit later. For more though, let’s focus on the Lots themselves.

Crow’s Crossing

Crow’s Perch

Crow’s Perch is just about affordable as a starter home, providing you have multiple Sims in your household, or, if you used the Story Editor, your Sim started off with more funds. This barely-starter home is ideal with its three bedrooms and single bathroom. It’s also nicely furnished and has plenty of outdoor space. It’s also in close walking distance of the town in Crow’s Crossing, giving you easy access to the neighborhood’s amenities.

Eternal Hollow

Ravenwood features a brand-new type of Lot: a Cemetery! This is a great place for hosting Funerals, finding a gravesite for deceased Sims, and mourning the dead. There are also two crypts placed here, a casket, a pond, and a bonfire. You’re likely to find ghosts wandering around here, so if you’re looking for a ghost, come here.

Moppy Manor

Moppy Manor is another ideal starter home. This one is cheaper than Crow’s Perch, but does only have one bedroom and bathroom – to start with at least. Don’t hold back from adding more. The upstairs area certainly has potential for adding another bedroom and bathroom. This is a neat little Lot, with not a bad size that doesn’t feel too cramped. There’s also a generous backyard area.

Old Ravenwood Estate

This is probably the grandest and most expensive residential Lot in all of Ravenwood, and it sure is a beauty. This place is huge, with three levels and a conservatory in the back, plus beautifully landscaped gardens. If you can afford it, why not live here? This is a great place for a large, wealthy family to live, with six bedrooms and seven bathrooms. Be aware of possible spooky goings-on though, with the On Hallowed Grounds Lot Trait.

Specter Family Manor

This is the only residential Lot in Crow’s Crossing that is already occupied by a household, and that’s the Specter household. By all means give them the boot if you’d rather another household lived here, but you’ll need the money for it though. This manor is not cheap! It’s got a creepy-yet-cozy vibe going, and even has a basement. 

Mourningvale

Mourningvale is what you might think as the “dark” neighborhood of Ravenwood. It’s generally gloomy here and has a very different look and atmosphere to the other two neighborhoods. However, there’s still a lively vibrancy about it. You can find a lot in Mourningvale, including the Baleful Bog, bell tower, town hall, crypts, Guardian Tree, and ghost of Alice. For now though, let’s take a closer look at its Lots.

Club Eternity

Everyone needs to let loose now and again, and Club Eternity has you covered there with its party atmosphere. Don’t let it’s grim Gothic exterior put you off, as it’s actually very cozy inside. There’s lots of space for Sims to mingle, a big bar, and a chess table upstairs.

Mourning Mist Manor

This stylish house is home to the Izadi-Gomes household, but you’re more than welcome to give them a boot if you’d rather someone else lived here. Although this Lot may be a bit beyond a starter Sim’s budget, it’s by no means the most expensive. This lofty house comes with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a yard with garden planters, and even a sophisticated sun room. This is a plush home for any Sim.

Mystic Crossroads

Mourningvale has its own empty Lot, with a generous 30 by 30 size so you can build or place whatever you like here. You can set up a residential home, or, since commercial Lots are somewhat lacking in Ravenwood, why not place a new amenity here? You could place a restaurant, gym, spa, whatever you like.

The Cozy Casket House

The Cozy Casket House works well as a starter home, particularly for multiple-household Sims. It’s got three bedrooms and two bathrooms, so there shouldn’t be long queues to use the bathrooms. The third bedroom actually has a casket in it. You can keep it, or put a bed in there. To begin with, the furniture and furnishings is pretty basic, and the windows are broken, but you can change all that if you have some spare cash. There is a little space outside, although maybe not as much as other Lots. You’ll also have to watch out for the On Hallowed Grounds Lot Trait. This Lot is an ideal spot for eager fishers and swimmers, being right next to the bog of Mourningvale.

Whispering Glen

Whispering Glen is easily the quietest neighborhood in Ravenwood, and the least “spooky”. This is a very peaceful and rural neighborhood, with wide-open spaces in a countryside setting. You could compare it to a place like Chestnut Ridge or Henford-on-Bagley. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle, or you just want a breather from the more ghoulish side of Ravenwood, Whispering Glen is the best place to be. That’s not to say that nothing ever happens here. There’s still the odd crypt to explore, if you wish, and there’s just one festival that takes place here: the Moon Revelry. We’ll go into more of what exactly you can discover here, but for now, here are all the Lots you can find in Whispering Glen.

Hay Hill Landing

Hooray! Another empty plot of land in Ravenwood that’s entirely ready to be built on. Best yet, this land is enormous, being a rare 64 by 64! Let your imagination run wild here. Build a huge lavish home or the biggest and best commercial venue. Plus, with its two Lot Traits, this is a good place to build your Sim’s Painting, Photography, Cooking, Mixology, Handiness, and Gardening skills.

Hay Hill Landing

Teardrop Cottage

The Gomes household lives here, and they sure are lucky with the house and the location. It’s beautifully designed and landscaped, a very cozy home in Whispering Glen. It’s got a decent number of bedrooms and bathrooms, doesn’t feel too cramped, has the Bracing Breezes and Great Acoustics Lot Traits (ideal for working on your Sim’s Fitness and musical skills), and isn’t ridiculously expensive (although it is out of budget for starter Sims).

The Marigold Chateau

This Lot is simply stunning. It’s not quite as pricey as the Old Ravenwood Estate in Crow’s Crossing, but it’s certainly one of the most beautiful Lots in Ravenwood. It’s already home to the Aether household, but if you wish to move some other Sims in, by all means kick them out. This is a very spacious mansion, with wonderfully landscaped gardens and big lavish rooms. It may only have three bedrooms and two bathrooms, which is much less than the Old Ravenwood Estate, but it’ll make a great home for any wealthy Sim.

The Final Draught

Fancy a drink in Ravenwood? The Final Draught Bar in Whispering Glen has you covered there. This Bar is set in the beautiful countryside of Ravenwood, perfect for when your Sims are enjoying a get together, a drink, and a dance. It’s an especially good place to go to get away from all the ghoulishness of Ravenwood, or unwind after a long shift as an Undertaker or Grimtern.

Things to Look Out for in Ravenwood

It’s not just the Lots and collectibles you can find in Ravenwood. This place is thriving with activity. You can see for yourself below what you can find.

Daily Festivals

If you’ve got The Sims 4 City Living or Snowy Escape Expansion, you’ll know what festivals are. These are events that happen either weekly or bi-weekly, with a different festival almost every day. Ravenwood has its own set of festivals to help make you feel part of the community. If you’re having trouble locating a festival, you can select the collector’s sign outside the town hall and it’ll point you in the right direction. Here’s the complete list of festivals and when and where they take place:

Well of Longing and Regret

In a secluded area off Crow’s Crossing is a well. This isn’t just any well, but the Well of Longing and Regret. In effect, this is a wishing well! However, you can’t simply go ahead and make a wish. Things aren’t that easy, thanks to the ghost who lingers nearby. Edith may be a child, but she is not one to be messed with. If you want to make a wish, you need to gain her trust first by befriending her. If you befriend her enough, she’ll let you use the well without consequences. You can also ask for her Mark, which makes your Sim very Energized and makes the chances of their wishes coming true more likely. You don’t necessarily need to get the Mark from Edith, but it doesn’t hurt to do so.

You can grant the following wishes at the Well of Longing and Regret:

• A Long Life
• Career Success
• Courage to Face Edith
• Easier to Manage Needs
• Luck in Love
• Untold Riches
• Skill Gains
• Fame
• Removal of Otherworldly Curse

Each wish costs 1 Simoleon. There’s also a time-out period between granting wishes, so don’t get greedy and pick your wishes wisely!

If you’re nice to Edith, she may grant you a blessing that’ll make wish-making more likely to succeed.

Guardian Tree

The Guardian Tree is a special big tree located in a secluded area in Mourningvale. It’s quite creepy looking, with no leaves and what appears to be a face on the bark. It’s also haunted by a ghost called Alice. The Guardian Tree can be interacted with, and includes the following options:

• Listen to Whispers
• Refill Needs
• Scavenge
• Summon Alice
• Use Intuition
• View The Guardian Tree

Baleful Bog

Mourningvale contains a large boggy area, which your Sims can actually swim in. However, there is one distinctive section that has special powers if interacted with. The Baleful Bog stands out with its mysterious glowing water. Here’s what you can do at this unique bog:

• Have Out of Body Experience – Temporarily turns your Sim into a ghost for a few hours
• Rebirth – Only available if your Sim has filled up their Soul’s Journey meter to a certain level
• Use Intuition – Used for getting a Tarot Card
• The usual swimming actions

There are a lot of bogs you can swim in around Mourningvale – but the Baleful Bog is special.

Bell Tower

The bell tower is a unique landmark located in the heart of Mourningvale. It has two interactions. One is to simply view it. The other though is to Ring the Bell. This summons a few Specters to surround the tower. Don’t worry; they’re friendly! This is useful if you want to find some Specters to interact with.

This bell tower is a pretty cool feature in Mourningvale.

Town Hall

If you’re new to Ravenwood or you feel lost, there is one good place to go (apart from the Lessons): the town hall. There are two of these in Ravenwood. One’s in Crow’s Crossing, the other in Mourningvale. This isn’t strictly a Lot but more an interactive building. It’s useful for getting information about Ravenwood. You can also attend to Will business here. At the town hall, you can do the following:

• Focus Camera On…
• Use Amenities
• Start Will
• Read Ancient Archives
• Read Billboard About… (Crow’s Crossing / Mourningvale / Whispering Glen)

The town hall contains useful information. You can also use the restroom there.

Ancestor Rock and Water

If you visit Whispering Glen, you might notice a distinctive-looking rock by the river. This is the Ancestor Cliff. This strange rock face is here for a reason. For one, the Moon Revelry takes place on the shore opposite. Also, if you swim in the water by the rock during a Moon Revelry, your Sim will gain a special moodlet that will leave them awed and Inspired for a time. It’s pretty cool and worth trying out.

There’s something creepy yet mystifying about this strange rock face in Whispering Glen.

Crypts

One new object that comes with The Sims 4 Life & Death Expansion is the Crypt of Eternity. You can actually buy this and place it on any Lot, residential or commercial. However, you can also find these crypts scattered around Ravenwood. With these crypts, you can do the following:

• Join the Undertaker Career (available at the Cemetery)
• Explore the Underground Crypts
• Name
• Nap
• Tell Ghost Stories
• View Urn and Gravestone Inventory
• WooHoo and Try for Baby

Possibly the most notable action is exploring the crypts. This leads to your Sim going off on an off-screen adventure, with their progress updated via pop-up messages. During these adventures, your Sims may be faced with decisions, which can impact on things like their mood and what they discover. Note that these adventures can go on for hours, so make sure your Sims aren’t busy and that their Needs are taken care of.

You can have lots of adventures in these crypts, but they do go on for a while.

Tarot Tome Shrines

If you’re looking to complete the Tarot Cards collection, you should look out for the Tarot Tome Shrines, with one available in each neighborhood in Ravenwood. If your Sim has never interacted with these, the first and only interaction is What’s This? Upon inspecting it, a pop-up message will appear, explaining what these shrines are for. They are part of the Order of Lenore, who will help you in finding the Tarot Cards. You can view the shrines any time after initially inspecting it, which will bring this window up again. This message also shows you who the four members of the Order are and who to look for. If you ever need a reminder, come back to these shrines.

There’s one of these Tarot Tome Shrines in each of the three neighborhoods in Ravenwood.

Haunted House

Did you know that Crow’s Crossing has a haunted house? Well, now you do! This isn’t a proper Lot, but a rabbithole building, like the town hall. If you’re brave enough, you can explore the house, or even cleanse it. Plus, if your Sim is a ghost, why shouldn’t they get the chance to do a bit of haunting themselves?

Don’t miss the haunted house in Crow’s Crossing.

Statues of Gemologist and Moppy the Goat

These are the last few things worth mentioning, but in Whispering Glen and Crow’s Crossing respectively, you can find two statues: one of a famed Gemologist, and the other of Moppy the Goat, a famous figure in Ravenwood’s history. The only interactions with these statues are to view them, but you do get some information about the figures the statues are made for.

You’ve got to know the collectibles, Lots, and notable events and landmarks in Ravenwood. Now let’s meet the locals! All these Sims you can play as, residing in various Lots.

Aether Household

Residence: The Marigold Chateau, Whispering Glen

Funds: §75,000

The Aether household is made up of three Sims: Ekade, Kai, and young Takama. They all live together in this big house in picturesque Whispering Glen. Ekade and Takama are human Sims, but Kai is a ghost. They are also very wealthy, with the second biggest funds in Ravenwood. You should have fun playing as this household.

Takama Aether

Takama is the youngest pre-made Sim living in Ravenwood (not counting Edith the ghost child who haunts the well). He’s already got good grades at school, so you don’t need to concern yourself with that. He has yet to build any skills, but his creative aspiration may be a hint that he wants to work on artistic activities. 

Gomes Household

Residence: Teardrop Cottage, Whispering Glen

Funds: §40,000

The Gomes family live in the beautiful Teardrop Cottage in Whispering Glen, and seem like the perfect family. They are, but they may hold some surprises, so keep an eye on them!

Radwan Gomes

Apparently, Radwan and his wife Tziporah have previously had a taste of being a ghost, which is quite interesting. Otherwise, there’s not too much to say. He’s doing okay in his career as an Astronaut, but does appear to enjoy a spot of fishing, if you’re wondering what to send him to do in his free time.

Tziporah Gomes

Tziporah, a highly-successful writer who lives life a little dangerously thanks to her clumsiness. She too appears to enjoy a little indulging in fishing, so send her with her husband Radwan. She’s already at the top of her game in the Writer career, but she’s only a level 8 Writing skill, so why not max that out?

Zelmira Gomes

Zelmira has a keen interest in the afterlife. Unsurprisingly then, they are one of the (original) four members of the Order of Lenore. If you’re looking for tasks to do to earn Tarot Cards, look for them. Their Ghost Historian Aspiration has them down the path to being an expert in the afterlife. When they are old enough to get work, they may seem suited to join either the Undertaker or Reaper careers. They’d be wasted otherwise. They’re also a talented violinist, by the way.

Izadi-Gomes Household

Residence: Mourning Mist Manor, Mourningvale

Funds: §30,000

Despite having the smallest funds of the four pre-made households in Ravenwood, the Izadi-Gomes household are still pretty well-off, so paying the bills shouldn’t be an issue. Plus, they live in a very nice house in Mourningvale. Also, did I mention that they were both ghosts?

Esther Gomes

Zuleika Izadi

Zuleika is new to many things. She’s only recently become a ghost at the hand of a greedy cowplant. Esther kindly allowed her to move into their home, and even helped her get a job in the same line of work as a Reaper. Zuleika may only be a level 2 compared to Esther’s level 6, but she can work her way up. Or, if reaping isn’t Zuleika’s thing, why not let her try her hand at gardening? Her Freelance Botanist and high Gardening and Flower Arranging skills seem to suggest that this career path may be for her.

Specter Household

Residence: Specter Family Manor, Crow’s Crossing

Funds: §100,000

The mysterious Specter household are the richest in Ravenwood, and they live in one of the plushest homes. You should enjoy playing out their lavish lives.

Nyon Specter

Nyon Specter is just a teen, but he is a member of the Order of Lenore, with tasks for Tarot Cards collecting Sims. His skills, interests, and aspirations suggest that the path to take may lie in being a writer. He also has very high Snowboarding skills, apparently.
