Why You Should Do the Lord/Lady of the Knits Aspiration

Some might look at this Aspiration (and the Stuff Pack as a whole) and think: “Knitting? Really?” Yes, knitting, really! Why? There are a few reasons why you should consider trying out this Aspiration:

  • It’s fun and creative.
  • You can make money off your knitted creations.

Tips Before You Start

While this isn’t the hardest Aspiration to complete, there are some useful tips to make it easier for you and your Sim:

Have the Creative Trait

Sims who are Creative finds themselves getting Inspired. Not only do you build the Knitting Skill faster while Inspired, but having this is a requirement for one of the tasks.

Creative Trait highlighted.

The Creative Trait is perfect for the Lord/Lady of the Knits Aspiration.

Avoid Having Other Mood-Influencing Traits

Certain traits put your Sims into different moods. Genius Sims become Focused, Hot-Headed become Angry, Cheerful are typically Happy, etc. If possible, try to avoid having any mood-based traits other than Creative. If your Sim continuously becomes locked into a different mood other than Inspired, it’ll be harder to complete tasks requiring your Sim to be Inspired.

Buy a Stereo

Sims love to listen to music, including those who knit. Not only is listening to music during knitting a task for this Aspiration, but it can help put your Sim in the right mood for getting Inspired, increasing the skill faster and boosting the chances of better quality creations.

Buy a Shower

This may seem obvious, as you’re more than likely to own a shower anyway, but in the case of this Aspiration and skill, it’s handy to have. Your Sim can take a Thoughtful Shower to get Inspired and in the mood for a good knitting session.

Have Your Sim Like Knitting

You’ll have a much easier time if you have your Sim “like” knitting. You can assign it in Create-A-Sim in the Likes/Dislikes menu, or accept that your Sim likes it when prompted in the pop-up message during a knitting session. Make sure that your Sim does not have Dislikes Knitting assigned, as you’ll make it much harder to work on the Aspiration and skill.

Likes Knitting Preference pop-up message.

Having your Sim assigned the Likes Knitting Preference is a big bonus.

Have a Llama (The Sims 4 Cottage Living Expansion Pack only)

If you have the room for it, you should buy yourself a llama so you can harvest their wool, which you can then use in your knitting creations. If you take very good care of them by keeping them fed, clean, and giving them affection, they should produce Excellent quality wool, which means better quality creations!

Have a Mini Sheep (The Sims 4 Horse Ranch Expansion Pack only)

Just like the llama, you can use the wool from mini sheep in your knitted creations to get better quality results.

Lord/Lady of the Knits Aspiration Walkthrough

It’s now time to embark on your knitting journey. Make sure to purchase a knitting basket from the Buy Catalog (under Activities & Skills > Creative or Study > Hobbies & Skills). There are 2 available: Beginner’s Yarn Basket for §55 and Super Stash Yarn Basket for §75. It really makes no difference which one you buy, except for the appearance and price difference. Place it in the world, then add the yarn basket to your Sim’s Inventory so they can start knitting!

Milestone 1: Humble Knitter

It all starts at the beginning, as your Sim’s knitting journey begins, whether they’re a veteran already or a complete novice starting at Level 1.

Task 1: Knit for 5 Hours

One of the first tasks is to knit for a total of 5 hours. Not all in one go non-stop, but overtime. 5 hours sounds a lot, but it’s surprising how quickly this time can slip away while your Sim is busy knitting away. Each creation takes about 1 – 2 hours alone. Whatever Knitting Skill your Sim is starting off at, it should take 2 – 4 knitting items to reach this target time.

This task actually ties in nicely with the second task in this first set: starting 3 knitting projects while Inspired. As you focus on that particular task, you’ll probably find that this one gets checked off as well.

Your Sim can continue knitting later if they need to stop. Or they can scrap their current project if they want to start a new one.

Task 2: Start 3 Knitting Projects While Inspired

This is one of those tasks where your Sim needs to be in a particular mood when working on it. In this case, your Sim needs to be in the Inspired Mood (their profile in bright turquoise) when they start their next knitting project.

Before your Sim starts knitting, make sure they are in an Inspired Mood. To do this, they can:

  • Take a Thoughtful Shower
  • View artwork
  • Browse Art interaction on a computer
  • Drink an Inspired Potion
  • Automatically get into this mood with the Creative Trait
  • Place Inspired-inducing objects in the room
A Sim with the Inspired Mood after taking a Thoughtful Shower.

Thoughtful Showers leave your Sim feeling Inspired for hours.

Make sure that before you get Inspired, your Sim isn’t about to head off to work or another engagement. You don’t want to waste time getting Inspired if your Sim is about to head off somewhere and won’t have time to start knitting.

Once your Sim is Inspired, select any seating object (rocking chair, living chair, loveseat, sofa, bench, bed) and select Knit… (or Knit Clothing… if you’re at a very early Knitting Skill level). Then select any knitting project you like to start knitting!

For this task, your Sim does not need to finish the knitting project. They just need to start it in an Inspired Mood. You need to do this 3 times with 3 separate knitting projects.

Task 3: Knit on a Rocking Chair

This task can be done with the other two tasks in this set. You just need to seat your Sim in a rocking chair and have them knit something. That’s it.

Rocking chairs can be bought from the Buy Catalog under Living Chairs. The Sims 4 Nifty Knitting Stuff Pack has 4 rocking chairs to choose from:

  • Armless Rocking Chair by Sit’n’Stitch – §120
  • Extra Comfy Armless Rocking Chair by Sit’n’Stitch – §130
  • Sit’n’Stitch Rocking Chair – §135
  • Sit’n’Stitch Rocking Chair with Comfy Cushion – §145
Buy Catalog, with living chairs displayed.

Rocking Chairs can be found under Living Chairs.

Certain other packs for The Sims 4 include more rocking chairs, such as:

Once you have your rocking chair, simply get your Sim seated and knitting by selecting the Knit option on the rocking chair. Your Sim will rock while they knit!

With a rocking chair, Sims can also nap in them and Reminisce.

Milestone 2: Thread Setter

The first set of tasks in the Lord/Lady of the Knits Aspiration was pretty easy, but now things are getting a little more difficult, especially the third task on this list. That’s because you’ll need to use Plopsy to sell your knitted wares. Don’t worry, as once you understand how it works, your Sims will be raking in money from their creations!

Task 1: Achieve Level 4 Knitting Skill

First off, you need to get your Sim’s Knitting Skill up to Level 4. This shouldn’t be too taxing to do and shouldn’t take very long. The best thing to do is just knit, knit, knit – while in an Inspired Mood. This mood allows your Sim to gain the Knitting Skill much faster, achieving this goal in no time.

One thing to note: while your Sim is working towards Level 4, have them keep whatever completed projects they have in their Inventory. They’ll need them for another task in this list.

You’ll only have a few items available to knit to start with. The options expand as your Sim’s skill improves.

Task 2: Knit While Listening to Music

If you don’t have a stereo yet, you should get one. Listening to music while knitting is a great way of keeping your Sim Inspired and engaged – and it gives you the player something to listen to while your Sim spends time knitting!

Buy any stereo from the Buy Catalog and place it in the same room as the rocking chair you own. That way, your Sim can sit in their rocking chair and knit while listening to music at the same time.

Once you have a stereo, to complete this task, you need to do the following:

  1. Select the stereo and turn it on to any station you wish. Knitters love the METAL station, as this gets them in the mood for knitting (unless your Sim Dislikes METAL), so it’s recommended that you tune into this particular station.
  2. With the radio on, select the stereo again and select Listen so they are actively listening to the music.
  3. You can also select a stereo that isn’t on and choose Listen To… and then select the station to turn on the stereo and listen to it at the same time.
  4. While your Sim is still listening to the music, select the rocking chair or any other seating object and select Knit to get them knitting. It doesn’t matter if it’s a fresh new project or a work-in-progress.

These steps should satisfy the task.

The combination of listening to METAL music and the rocking chair equals a perfect knitting session.

Task 3: Sell a Knitted Item on Plopsy

This is probably the trickiest task in this set, but it’s not overly challenging. It’s a bit daunting if you’re new to Plopsy, but we’ll explain how it works. It’s actually very straightforward.

Plopsy is an in-game selling platform in The Sims 4 where your Sim can post their creations online and sell them and send them away via the post.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how Plopsy works and how to sell a knitted item:

  1. Select a completed knitting project in your Sim’s Inventory and choose List on Plopsy. This will cost you §5 for each item each time you list it.
  2. The listed item will remain in your Sim’s Inventory, but now with a pink background

Once listed, 2 things may happen:

  1. The item will not sell and the listing will expire. You will then need to relist it, which will cost you again.
  2. If a Sim makes an offer on your listed item, you’ll get notified via a pop-up message and musical jingle. The background for the item will change from pink to blue. The item will stay in your Sim’s Inventory.
  3. Once an offer is made, you need to send off the item via the mailbox. To do this, select the item in the Inventory (not the mailbox) and select Ship on Plopsy. Your Sim will automatically go to their mailbox and place the item inside. You will then receive the money from selling it and the item will disappear from your Sim’s Inventory.

It can take time to sell knitted items on Plopsy, so don’t be disheartened if you don’t sell anything immediately. Just be patient and you will get a buyer. The best thing to do is to list multiple items on Plopsy to give yourself a better chance of making a sale. For this particular task, you only need to sell one item on Plopsy, making this task a little easier for you.

Once you learn the ropes of Plopsy and see the benefits of using it (and the money), you’ll find yourself using it a lot!

Milestone 3: Dream Weaver

Things are getting more serious now. You have an extra task to complete at this third stage, and achieving every task may take time.

Task 1: Complete 10 Excellent Knittables

This task will probably take the longest to complete. Your Sim will need to complete 10 knitted projects of Excellent quality, which can be tricky to do. It’s not impossible, however, and just requires a lot of hard work – and knitting!

The best thing to do is to just keep knitting items, whether it’s clothing or objects. If a particular item keeps coming up as Normal quality, try a different project. You’ll also find that as your Sim’s Knitting Skill improves, so does the quality of their items. You can also try the following:

  • Knitting while Inspired
  • Knitting while listening to music (especially the METAL station)
  • Knitting in a rocking chair
  • Making sure all Needs are in the green
  • Making sure your Sim isn’t in a negative mood like Tense, Uncomfortable, Embarrassed, Dazed, etc.
  • Use high-quality wool from llamas or sheep (Cottage Living and Horse Ranch)
  • Try the Creative Visionary reward trait from the Reward Store (costs 2,000 Satisfaction Points)

Keep knitting and creating new items, and with the tips above, you should be rolling out those Excellent items.

You can see the quality of a knitted project once it’s finished and in your Sim’s Inventory.

Task 2: Successfully Gift 3 Knittables

Your Sim has sold their knitted creations on Plopsy. Now it’s time for something different: gifting their creations to other Sims. You need to do it in a certain way to mark this task as completed.

To gift a knitted item to another Sim, you need to:

  1. Introduce yourself to the other Sim, if you haven’t yet. Otherwise, you can do this with a Sim you already know.
  2. Select any completed knitted project from your Sim’s Inventory and select Gift… (if this is only available for one Sim, it’ll be named as Gift to [Sim Name]).
  3. Select the Sim from the list you want to give the item to.
  4. Watch your Sim give the item to the other Sim.

If the item is at least of Normal quality and your Sim has at least a neutral relationship with the recipient, they should happily accept the item.

You need to gift an knitted item 3 times (and successfully received) to complete this task.

Do not use any of the other gifting interactions such as Give Romantic Gift, Give Crafted Gift, etc. It doesn’t count towards the task. You must gift the item via the Inventory.

Task 3: Achieve Level 6 Knitting Skill

At stage 3, your Sim will need to bump up their Knitting Skill to Level 6, which shouldn’t be too difficult to do. With them aiming to create 10 Excellent quality knitted items, you should achieve this goal while working on that task.

Task 4: Successfully Show Off Your Knitted Sweater to Another Sim

This is another task that requires a few steps, but it’s not too difficult to do. At Level 5 Knitting Skill, your Sim will be able to knit sweaters for child Sims and older. To get this task checked off your list, you need to:

  1. Knit a Sweater (under Knit Clothing > Knit Sweaters). From the list, choose a masculine or feminine sweater to knit, depending on which Sim you are playing as for this Aspiration.
  2. With the finished sweater in your Sim’s Inventory, select it and choose Add to Wardrobe.
  3. Enter Create-A-Sim via a dresser or mirror and have your Sim wear the new knitted sweater.
  4. With your Sim wearing the sweater, select a Sim you are at least acquainted with (or you can just quickly introduce yourself), and from the Friendly menu, select Show Off Knitted Clothing.
  5. Make sure your Sim actually goes through with the interaction (it doesn’t get canceled out for whatever reason) and the task will be completed.

Milestone 4: Lord/Lady of the Knits

You’ve finally made it to the last stage of the Lord/Lady of the Knits Aspiration. There’s just one final push before you can call your Sim a legendary knitter. Some of these tasks are pretty easy, while the others are more difficult and time-consuming.

Task 1: Donate 5 Knitted Items to Charity

This is one of the easier final tasks.

  1. Knit yourself whatever 5 items you like. Make sure you leave them in your Sim’s Inventory once completed. The quality of the finished projects doesn’t matter.
  2. Select the completed project and select Donate [Object Name] to Charity.
  3. Your Sim will go to their mailbox and send off the item via the mail.
  4. Do this with 5 knitted items in total to complete this task.
Donate to Charity option on mailbox.

Donating knitted items to charity is very easy. You just need to have some items to donate!

Task 2: Achieve Level 10 Knitting Skill

You probably saw this coming, but to be a master knitter, you need to max out your Knitting Skill. Level 10 is the highest you can get. It’ll take a lot of work, and knitting, but you will get there. Remember that being Inspired builds the Knitting Skill a lot faster, so whenever your Sim is knitting, make sure they’re in an Inspired Mood.

Your Sim is most likely to max out the Knitting Skill (if they haven’t already by this stage) while working on the next task, which is probably the most challenging in the whole Aspiration.

Maxed out Knitting Skill notification.

After endless knitting, you will eventually max out the skill.

Task 3: Complete 5 Legendary Knittables

This task is tough, probably the hardest to achieve out of the entire Aspiration. This isn’t an impossible task, just time-consuming. Your Sim will be knitting a lot of projects to hit this target.

But what does it mean by “legendary knittables”? If you thought that Excellent was the highest quality a knitted item could be, you’re wrong. There’s actually an even higher quality called Legendary, and that’s what this task wants you to achieve – with 5 different projects! This seems like a big ask, but it is doable. You just need to be very persistent.

Here’s everything you can do to create those Legendary quality knitted items:

  • If you haven’t yet, get your Sim’s Knitting Skill maxed out at Level 10. They’ll have every project available to do, and the chances of getting high – if not the highest – quality items will be increased.
  • Have your Sim Inspired while knitting, from start to finish of a project if possible.
  • Listen to the METAL station and sit in the rocking chair while knitting.
  • Have all Needs in the green while knitting.
  • Don’t have your Sim in any negative mood while knitting.
  • Try different projects to see if you get different results, if a particular project isn’t giving you Legendary quality.
  • Get the Creative Visionary reward trait, if you haven’t yet.
  • Use high-quality wool from llamas or sheep (Cottage Living and Horse Ranch).

Keep working and eventually you’ll have 5 Legendary quality projects under your belt. It’s one of those grinding tasks, but you can do it!

Legendary knitted item.

Legendary items are rarer than Excellent ones.

Task 4: Teach Another Sim to Knit

After the last two grafting tasks, this final one is mercifully much easier, although it still requires a few steps to get it done correctly. You need to teach another Sim to knit.

To complete this task, you need to do the following:

  1. Make sure that wherever your Sim is, there is somewhere that two Sims can sit together, like a sofa or bed. This is needed in order for the Teach to Knit interaction to go ahead.
  2. You can either invite a Sim over to their home, or visit a location with a two-seater object.
  3. Select a Sim that your Sim is acquainted with and choose Teach to Knit in the Friendly menu.
  4. Your Sims should go to a free two-seater object and sit down together. Your Sim will then instruct the other Sim as they knit.
  5. Wait for the Sims to finish. Once done, this task should be satisfied.

It doesn’t take very long for your Sim to spend time teaching another Sim to knit. The main challenge is making sure there’s another Sim you can teach knitting to, and that there’s somewhere for them both to sit.

Reward for Completing Lord/Lady of the Knits Aspiration

Congratulations on completing the Lord/Lady of the Knits Aspiration! Unless your Sim is sick of knitting by this point, they unlock a knitting-related trait that’ll make all that hard work pay off and make their knitting activity even more rewarding. Upon completing the Aspiration, your Sim will automatically receive the Sacred Knitting Knowledge reward trait. With this trait, they can:

  • Have new benefits when teaching other Sims to knit.
  • Can knit additional items such as the Yarny Toy and the Forbidden Sweater.
  • Are immune to the negative effects of the Sweater Curse.
Yarny Toy.

With the reward trait, you can knit new exclusive items, such as Yarny.

By the time you finish the Lord/Lady of the Knits Aspiration, your Sim will be a master knitter with a maxed out Knitting Skill, able to knit whatever they desire, can pass on their skill to other Sims, and can make some good money off Plopsy by selling their high-quality items!
