The Sims 4 Adventure Awaits Expansion Pack introduces a new collection to complete: Gibbi Point Butterflies & Moths. Altogether, 14 different species of butterflies and moths can be located around the new world Gibbi Point. However, finding them all won’t be easy, as some have to be found in specific conditions such as time of day, special events, and even completing quests. Completing this collection not only fills your Collections Menu but also unlocks decorative animated effects and a special plaque reward.

1. How to Catch Butterflies and Moths in The Sims 4 Adventure Awaits

This section explains how to catch butterflies and moths across Gibbi Point. They spawn only under certain conditions linked to time of day, festivals, quests, or special actions.

Butterflies and moths are exclusive to the world of Gibbi Point from the Adventure Awaits Expansion Pack. You will not find them in any other world such as Willow Creek or Oasis Springs. Their spawns depend on factors like:

  • Time of Day – Some appear in daylight, others at night, and a few anytime.
  • Location – Each species has specific spawn areas across neighborhoods.
  • Occasions – Festival-exclusive butterflies/moths appear only during select Gibbi Point events.
  • Quests – Certain species unlock after completing tasks for the Storyteller or Plumbird.
  • Special Conditions – Some require specific environmental or gameplay triggers to appear.

How to Catch a Butterfly or Moth

To catch one, look out for small fluttering groups around Gibbi Point. Hovering over them displays the species name. Simply select the cluster and choose Catch [Butterfly/Moth Name]. Each attempt captures one butterfly or moth, and it is added to your inventory. If it’s your first of that kind, it registers automatically in the Collections Menu.

2. What to Do With Butterflies and Moths After Catching Them

Once you have caught a few species, there are multiple uses for your butterflies and moths. These range from selling and displaying them to earning skill progression through examination.

  • Selling Them – Sell directly from your inventory. Common species sell for §10, uncommon for §15, and rare for §20 each.
  • Display in Habitat – Store and view them inside a Butterfly & Moth Habitat. You can purchase one from Build Mode for §600 or find one outside the Rangers Station in Wanderwood Wilds.
  • Examine – Place captured butterflies/moths in the world to study and build the Entomology Skill.
  • Rehome in Topiaries – Release them via flower-shaped topiaries around Gibbi Point if you prefer not to keep or sell them.
  • Add as Placeable Effect – Add them as animated outdoor decorations to your lot under Misc Decorations or Outdoor Water Décor.

This section lists all 14 butterfly and moth species in Gibbi Point. Each entry includes the time of day, appearance, rarity, neighborhood, and location. Collecting them all completes the Butterfly & Moth Collection.

Important Festival Times

  • Glow and Flow Festival – Every New Moon at 7 PM–2 AM – Grim’s-Head Hawkmoth
  • Round the Fire Festival – Weekends at 7 PM–2 AM – Sphinx Moth
  • Sunrise, Sunset Festival – Weekends at 1 PM–5 PM – Jorjan Birdwing Butterfly

Each butterfly or moth in Gibbi Point falls into one of three rarity tiers: Common, Uncommon, or Rare. Rarer species often appear only under specific conditions, such as quests or events.

  • Neighborhood: Wanderwood Wilds
  • Location: On the north side of the bridge that leads to the waterfall.
  • Clue: Where Wanderwood Wilds’ path meets easel’s art, or the bridge’s end, a butterfly darts. During the day’s light, find this kingly cobbler in its flight.

Cordelian Butterfly

  • Time of Day: Day
  • Appearance: Pale purple/lilac
  • Rarity: Common
  • Neighborhood: Jellyfish Junction
  • Locations: 1) Near the water where the archery contest takes place; 2) by the shore near the lighthouse.
  • Clue: Along Jellyfish Junction’s shores in glimmering light, a pirate’s lover takes her flight. Spotted daily, in lilac attire, she is a princess whose legend never tires.

Dina Yellow Butterfly

  • Time of Day: Day
  • Appearance: Yellow
  • Rarity: Common
  • Neighborhood: Crystal Valley
  • Location: By bushes along the stream where the old mine is.
  • Clue: In Crystal Valley, where treasures unfold, miss Dina floats like sun and gold. Spotted in the midday gleam, find this beauty by the miner’s stream.

Glasswing Butterfly

  • Time of Day: Day
  • Appearance: Pale purple
  • Rarity: Common
  • Neighborhood: Wanderwood Wilds
  • Location: On the path leading up to the waterfall.
  • Clue: In Wanderwood Wilds’ path near the waterfall’s gleam, a butterfly’s wings shimmer, nearly unseen. Seek in the day’s gentle light, amidst the foliage, a translucent sight.

Goliath Silk Moth

  • Time of Day: Night
  • Appearance: Brown and black
  • Rarity: Common
  • Neighborhoods: Crystal Valley and Jellyfish Junction
  • Location: Jellyfish Junction – in the park opposite Fletcher’s Cottage.
  • Clue: In Crystal Valley and Jellyfish Junction, at sun’s fall, a Goliath of moths heeds night’s call. Nightly when most Sims dream, seek this moth where the city lights gleam.

Richmond Birdwing Butterfly

  • Time of Day: Day
  • Appearance: Colorful (blue, green, red, yellow, and black)
  • Rarity: Common
  • Neighborhood: Wanderwood Wilds
  • Location: Near Camp Gibbi Gibbi by some bushes.
  • Clue: In Wanderwood Wilds where the Rangers reside, a Birdwing’s fluttering is hard to hide. Search in bushes, and flowers too, near the station, a black, yellow, teal hue.

Grim’s-Head Hawkmoth

  • Time of Day: Night
  • Appearance: Black
  • Rarity: Uncommon
  • Neighborhood: Jellyfish Junction
  • Location: By the water where it turns blue during a New Moon. If you don’t want to wait long for the next New Moon, head into Game Options > Environment to change the lunar cycle to shorter.
  • Clue: On Jellyfish Junction shores, when the moon is new, a moth gathers for a bioluminescent view. With death’s embrace and the Reaper’s grace, find this moth in its haunting space.

Jorjan Birdwing Butterfly

  • Time of Day: During Sunrise, Sunset Festival
  • Appearance: Purple
  • Rarity: Uncommon
  • Neighborhood: Jellyfish Junction
  • Location: Head to the Sunrise, Sunset Festival, which takes place at weekends between 1 PM to 5 PM. The butterfly appears at the festival showgrounds.
  • Clue: At a festival where young and old convene, miss butterfly Jorja joins the scene. In purple grace, where meals abound, a butterfly who goes where friends are found.

Owl Butterfly

  • Time of Day: Day
  • Appearance: Yellow-brown
  • Rarity: Uncommon
  • Neighborhood: Wanderwood Wilds
  • Location: Around the paths where the tower guard is located in Wanderwood Wilds.
  • Clue: In Wanderwood Wilds, by the water’s embrace, owl eyes hide in a leafy place. A tower stands guard near where this mystery lies. Find it before the daylight dies.

Sphinx Moth

  • Time of Day: During Round the Fire Festival
  • Appearance: Brown
  • Rarity: Uncommon
  • Neighborhood: Wanderwood Wilds
  • Location: Appears during the Round the Fire Festival every weekend from 7 PM to 2 AM in Wanderwood Wilds.
  • Clue: At the fire festival’s heart, a mysterious sphinx plays its part. Near the flame, in wilderness’ domain, discover this moth where stories reign.

Cryptid Moth

  • Time of Day: Night
  • Appearance: Dark blue
  • Rarity: Rare
  • Neighborhood: Crystal Valley
  • Location: Near Plumbird nest, after completing all 4 Plumbird quests.
  • Clue: In the dark of night on Crystal Valley’s land, a Cryptid Moth lurks. The mystery expands. In the foliage near the Plumbird’s lair, solve the quest to find it there.

Jelly Butterfly

  • Time of Day: Anytime
  • Appearance: Pale blue
  • Rarity: Rare
  • Neighborhood: Any
  • Location: Catch a jellyfish at the Electric Lagoon fishing spot in Crystal Valley, then place the jellyfish in the world. Butterflies spawn nearby. You cannot return the jellyfish to inventory until all spawned butterflies are caught.
  • Clue: In Crystal Valley, by the Electric Lagoon, catch a jellyfish to summon a butterfly or two. Place in World to make them appear, and then watch as Jelly Butterflies flutter near.

Red Admiral Butterfly

  • Time of Day: Anytime
  • Appearance: Red and black
  • Rarity: Rare
  • Neighborhood: Wanderwood Wilds
  • Location: Complete The Melody of the Geyser story quest for Storyteller Toshie in Jellyfish Junction. After completing the quest, the butterfly appears near the geyser.
  • Clue: Begin with Toshie in Jellyfish Junction’s heart. The Melody of the Geyser is where you start. Investigate and return, then Boulder Strike. Watch the Red Admiral take its flight.

Magical Origami Butterfly

  • Time of Day: Anytime
  • Appearance: Multi-colored, sparkling
  • Rarity: Rare
  • Neighborhood: Any
  • Location: Must collect all 13 other butterflies and moths first. Then craft at a Papercraft Station found around Gibbi Point for §1. Place all butterflies, including the origami one, in a Habitat to complete the collection.
  • Clue: Crafted in magic, to life it springs, a butterfly of paper spreads its wings. Collect all others to see it thrive, placed in a habitat to come alive.

4. Rewards for Completing the Gibbi Point Butterfly & Moth Collection

Completing the full Butterfly & Moth Collection in Gibbi Point rewards you with a plaque commemorating your achievement. It arrives in your Sim’s mailbox the following day and can be hung on walls as a display item.
