2. Best Tips Before You Start
Before you begin, set up the essentials so you can move smoothly through each Milestone. These notes cover skill gates, object access, and one household-only requirement that affects progression.
- Reach Level 4 Archery to unlock Bowfishing for a Milestone 2 goal.
- Plan to master the Entomology Skill (Level 5) for the final milestone.
- Have access to a Papercrafting Kit and at least Papercrafting Level 2.
- One fishing goal only registers with a household member, so having at least one other Sim in your household helps.
- You’ll need a computer for a late-stage research task.
Liking a Skill is beneficial as it keeps your Sim Happy and their Fun Need addressed.
3. How to Complete Amateur Lepidopterist (Milestone 1)
This milestone introduces butterfly and moth collecting and basic Papercrafting. You’ll buy the habitat, catch and examine common specimens, and craft your first origami butterflies.
Where to Purchase a Butterfly & Moth Habitat
Buy a Gibbi Point Butterfly & Moth Habitat in Build Mode under Activities & Skills > Outdoor Activities for 600 Simoleons (2×2). Place it and exit Build Mode to complete the goal.
You can buy a Habitat from Build Mode.
How to Catch 5 Butterflies
You can catch both butterflies and moths in Gibbi Point to satisfy this step. For the next goal, it’s efficient to focus on Common species. Keep catches in your Inventory so you can examine them.
Where to Find Common Butterflies & Moths in Gibbi Point
Use these confirmed Common locations to progress quickly:
- Banded King Shoemaker Butterfly – Wanderwood Wilds, north of the bridge leading to the waterfall.
- Cordelian Butterfly – Jellyfish Junction shorelines, including near the archery contest and the lighthouse.
- Dina Yellow Butterfly – Crystal Valley by bushes near town.
- Glasswing Butterfly – Wanderwood Wilds at the end of the waterfall path.
- Goliath Silk Moth – Jellyfish Junction in the park opposite Fletcher’s Cottage at night.
- Richmond Birdwing Butterfly – Wanderwood Wilds by bushes near Camp Gibbi Gibbi.
The Goliath Silk Moth can be found around Jellyfish Junction.
How to Examine 3 Common Butterflies
Examination is done from the ground, not directly from the inventory:
- Select a Common butterfly or moth in your Inventory and choose Place in World.
- After it’s placed, select it and choose Examine.
- Repeat for a total of 3 different Common specimens.
Butterflies and moths can’t be examined from the Inventory. You need to set them down in the world first.
How to Craft 3 Paper Butterflies
At a Papercrafting Kit, select Craft Origami > Butterfly. Papercrafting Level 1 is sufficient; Levels 2–3 add more color options. If a papercraft fails, it does not count—try again.
Butterfly origamis can be crafted even by beginner Papercrafters.
4. How to Complete Critter Allure (Milestone 2)
This milestone focuses on bowfishing (requires Archery 4), more Papercrafting, a Fish Bowl interaction, and a fishing activity that must include a household member.
How to Craft 3 Paper Mache Animals
At the Papercrafting Kit, choose Craft Paper Mache > Funky Animals. This is available from Papercrafting Level 1. If you have higher levels, Better Animals and Totally Realistic Animals also count.

How to Catch 4 Fish While Bowfishing
Bowfishing is unlocked at Archery Level 4. At any fishing spot, select Go Bowfishing and continue until you’ve caught 4 fish with the bow.
Bowfishing is only available for Sims with Level 4 Archery Skill.
How to Level Archery to 4 Quickly
- Purchase an Archery Target in Build Mode or use one at Camp Gibbi Gibbi.
- Use Practice Archery or hold a competition with another Sim.
- Enter a Focused mood before practice to build skill faster.
- Ask another Sim to Mentor you for additional skill gain.
- Use archery-based interactions on other Sims when not practicing.
The best and fastest way to build Archery is by practicing in a Focused Mood.
How to Go Fishing With a Buddy (Household Member)
This goal only registers when fishing with a household member:
- Send another Sim in your household to Go Fishing, then click them and choose Join Fishing; or
- Select a fishing spot > Go Fishing With… > choose your household Sim.
Fishing with a friend only seems to work with household members.
How to Give a Pet Fish a Name
- Buy a small Fish Bowl in Build Mode > Activities & Skills > Recreation.
- Select the bowl and choose Add Fish (from Inventory) or Buy Fish.
- With a fish in the bowl, select Name, enter a name, then Confirm.

- First, buy a Fish Bowl if you don’t own one.

- You can either buy a fish or add one you’ve caught.

5. How to Complete Aspiring Lepidopterist (Milestone 3)
This milestone returns to butterflies and moths: you’ll capture and examine a Rare specimen, rehome one at a topiary, view a specimen in the habitat, and begin raising a caterpillar.
How to Catch and Examine a Rare Butterfly
Rare species can be tied to specific actions or quests. You only need one Rare specimen for this goal.
Where to Find Rare Butterflies & Moths in Gibbi Point
- Cryptid Moth – Crystal Valley near the Plumbird’s Nest at night. Complete all four Peculiar Plumbird Lore quests first.
- Jelly Butterfly – Catch a jellyfish at the Electric Lagoon in Crystal Valley, then place it in the world to lure the butterfly.
- Red Admiral Butterfly – Complete the Melody of the Geyser quest from Storyteller Toshie; it appears near the Strange Boulder in Wanderwood Wilds.
There are only 3 Rare butterflies/moths, but two require completing quests to access them.
What’s the Easiest Rare to Catch?
The Jelly Butterfly is straightforward: catch a jellyfish and place it to spawn the butterfly.

How to Start Raising a Caterpillar
- Buy a Flutterarium Caterpillar Incubator from Build Mode > Activities & Skills, the Butterfly & Moth Habitat, or the Ranger’s Station in Wanderwood Wilds.
- Place it on a tabletop at home and choose Start Raising a Caterpillar.
- Select any butterfly/moth type. Higher Entomology Skill adds more options.

- Place in World and Examine caught specimens.
- Raise butterflies/moths in an incubator (use multiple for throughput).
- Read Entomology Skill books.
- Stay in a Focused mood during all Entomology actions.
Anything to do with butterflies and moths builds the Entomology Skill.
Once you reach Entomology Level 5 and complete the other goals, the aspiration is finished.
