The Sims 4 Reaper’s Rewards Event Week 1 Guide

Let's take you through Week 1 of the Reaper's Rewards Event in The Sims 4 with this guide. With the Event taking off this week, the first set of tasks assigned by the Grim Reaper will get you on the path to learning how to make Ambrosia by kickstarting your Sims' Cooking and Gardening skills.

The Sims 4 Reaper's Rewards Event Week 1 Guide

The Reaper’s Rewards Event in The Sims 4 has begun! With this spooky-themed event, you can unlock some unique rewards by completing special tasks, all assigned by none other than the Grim Reaper. Over the next several weeks, new tasks will be dished out, plus more rewards. From September 24th, the event kicked off with Week 1, handing out the first set of tasks to your Sims, as well as rewards. If you’re struggling to get all the tasks done or have some questions, this guide will give you a helping hand.

This brand-new time-sensitive event lasts only eight weeks, so you should set aside some time to complete the set tasks. Technically, there are six weeks worth of tasks, but an extra two have been given in case you start late or miss a week or two, so you have time to catch up and claim those rewards.

The Reaper’s Rewards Event ends on November 19th, 2024.

A Brief Overview of How the Event Works

If you’re unfamiliar with Events in The Sims 4 and not sure how they work, you can check out the explanation provided a little while ago. However, for your convenience, I’ll quickly explain how it works.

Each week, you’ll be given a set of tasks, which will appear in-game in the top-left corner of your screen. Look out for the Grim Reaper’s icon. This live event works almost like other in-game events, such as holidays and social gatherings, with the tasks listed so you can see what you need to do. When you hover over a task, it gives you information on exactly what you need to do, which is handy if you’re unsure how to complete the task. It will also tell you how many event points you’ll earn from doing that particular task.

For each week in the Reaper’s Rewards Event, there are two “quests”, each with a separate list of tasks to do. We’ll go into more detail of the specific tasks a little later in this guide.

As you earn points from completing tasks, you unlock rewards. You’ll get notified whenever you’ve obtained enough points for the next reward. Keep your eye on the top-right corner where the in-game pop-up messages are. To claim rewards, you need to select the Event UI button, located next to the task list tab. This opens up the Event Screen. You can also click on the button in the “unlocked reward” pop-up message to open up the same screen.

In the Event Screen, you’ll see everything you need to know about the Reaper’s Rewards Event. You’ll see what rewards you’ve unlocked, which ones are still locked, what quests are currently active or been completed, and when the following weeks begin. This is a good place to keep tabs on the event.

With that said and done, let’s jump into Week 1 of the Reaper’s Rewards Event in The Sims 4 and take you through everything you need to do. The walkthrough will be divided up into each of the two quests.

There’s one very important note I should make before you start. In order for all the tasks to be registered as completed, you must make sure that the tasks are on display in the tab. When you first load up your household, the tasks may not initially appear. Set the time to Play and they’ll show up. This is important because the tasks may not be noted as completed even if you do exactly what they say.

As you work on the Reaper's Rewards Event, you'll be referring back to the Event Panel in the top corner to monitor your progress.

Assistant to the Grim Reaper Quest Walkthrough

Let’s start with the first of the two quests: Assistant to the Grim Reaper.

When you first open The Sims 4 after the Reaper’s Rewards Event starts and go into any of your households, you’ll notice a new tab in the top left of your screen. It’s an icon with the Grim Reaper on it. This is for the Reaper’s Rewards Event. Select it to open it. This officially starts the two quests and gives you your first set of tasks. For now, let’s focus on Assistant to the Grim Reaper and see what comes up first.

At the very start of Week 1, you'll get a pop-up box giving you a quick briefing on what's ahead.

Ask 3 Sims About Ambrosia

This first task is easy. You just need to find 3 Sims – any Sims – and select the option Ask About Ambrosia. The social interaction will have the Grim Reaper’s icon next to it. The task will be noted as completed once you finish speaking with the third Sim.

Ask any Sim if they know anything about Ambrosia. You might learn a thing or two.

By speaking to other Sims, they’ll share information about Ambrosia, which appears in the pop-up messages in the top-right. They’ll provide useful advice, as well as foreshadowing, on how you’ll need to go about making Ambrosia. Here are examples of what Sims have said when asked:

  • “I’ve heard that you need to have mastered the Cooking and Gourmet Cooking skills.”
  • “I seem to recall that Ambrosia is a gourmet food.”
  • “If you want to make Ambrosia, you’ll need to be willing to get your hands a little dirty.”

Hmm, very interesting. So far, it sounds like you need to master the Cooking and Gourmet Cooking skills (the latter of which you can’t start working on until you’ve reached a minimum of level 5 Cooking skill), that Ambrosia is a meal found under the Gourmet Cooking recipes, and that your Sims might need to get their hands dirty, which possibly points to gardening. This gives you something to take away.

Research Ambrosia on Your Phone, Tablet, or Computer

With the first bunch of information coming in on Ambrosia, it’s time to delve a little deeper, by doing your own research. Using any phone, tablet, or computer in The Sims 4, you can use the interaction Research Ambrosia. Here are the ways you can do it on each type of device:

Phone: Under the blue Home app, Research Ambrosia can be found a few options down, beyond the first set of options including Call Fire Department, Go to Lifestyle Coaching, and Make a Science Baby.

Tablet: On a tablet, the Research Ambrosia interaction should come up on the first set of interactions. The Grim Reaper icon will be there to make it easier to spot.

Computer: Doing Research Ambrosia on a computer is the same as the tablet. It should appear as a sole interaction on the first set of options instead of in a sub-menu.

You can Research Ambrosia either by phone, tablet, or computer.

Whichever method you go with, your Sims should take about an hour or so researching Ambrosia. Once they’re finished, the task is done. The pop-up message provides a little more information about Ambrosia, stating that it’s a Gourmet dish that can bring Sims back to life. However, it is difficult to make and requires 3 rare ingredients. It also advises to read the Ambrosia Society Newsletter, but that’s part of the other quest. Let’s stick with this one for now.

By researching Ambrosia, you'll learn more about the recipe you'll eventually be making.

Order a Starter Flower Seed Packet

This too isn’t that difficult a task. You just need to purchase the Starter Flower Seed Packet. Why? You’ll soon find out.

Luckily, your Sim doesn’t need to be a highly-skilled gardener to get access to this seed packet. As the name states, it’s suitable for beginner gardeners. There are a few ways you can buy this particular seed packet. You can purchase a packet in Build Mode, found under Activities & Skills > Outdoor Activities. You can also type the name into the search tab to get it up quickly. Another method is by using a computer and going to Order > Seeds. Starter seeds don’t tend to be very expensive.

Once you’ve got your Starter Flower Seed Packet, this task will be ticked off the list.

A Starter Flower Seed Packet can be obtained in a few ways, including Buy Mode or ordering on a computer.

Plant a Lily/Plant a Snapdragon

These are actually listed as two separate tasks, which makes sense when keeping track in the game, but for the context of this guide, we’ll put them into one part. For this bit, you need to plant a Lily and Snapdragon plant. These appear in the Starter Flower Seed Packet, so get that opened up if you haven’t yet. You should have 3-4 of each Lilies and Snapdragons, which is useful in case you want or need a little extra.

If you don’t have The Sims 4 Seasons Expansion Pack installed, providing you have access to a planter or space to plant these flowers in the ground, you’re good to go. However, if you do have Seasons, there’s the added complication of plants being in season at different times of year. There’s also another issue: you cannot plant seeds when it is freezing outside. This means you have a few options: you can wait until the temperature rises above freezing and then plant away, or put planters indoors and put your Lily and Snapdragon in there. The in-game advice on this task actually tells you to plant under a roof to ensure they’re in season.

However, if planting your Lily and Snapdragon isn’t an issue, just place it on a free space of ground or in a planter and select the Plant option. Make sure the task is open in the event tab so it is registered. If it doesn’t work the first time, try again with another Lily and Snapdragon. I suggest you just plant one of each to start with, in order to make sure the task registers being complete and you don’t waste any plants. You can always plant more after.

Plants can be planted in the cold winter season, so long as it's not Freezing (with Seasons installed).

Research a Plant

Again, this is a task determined by The Sims 4 Seasons. The Research Plant task itself isn’t difficult (although it does take some time to complete the action). The difficulty lies in accessing the action. To research a plant, it must be in season. Lilies are only in season in the summer, while Snapdragons are in season in the spring and fall. Neither plant is available in the cold winter season.

There’s something else you need to know to do this task: your Sim’s Gardening skill must be at level 2. At this stage of the Reaper’s Rewards Event, you should have earned enough points to unlock a free copy of Gardening Vol 1. Read this book until you get to level 2. It shouldn’t take too long. At level 2, you unlock the Research action.

Wait until either plant comes into season, then Research will become available. You can do this on either a Lily or Snapdragon: it makes no difference.

Researching a plant gives you and your Sim more knowledge about it, plus it builds a little Gardening skill.

Assistant to the Grim Reaper Conclusion

Congratulations! You’ve done everything you need to under the Assistant to the Grim Reaper quest. That’s one quest done of the Reaper’s Rewards Event. Now you can focus on the other and finish that if you haven’t yet. The final pop-up screen for this quest also advises you to keep working on your Cooking and Gardening skills. You’ll be needing them very soon – and don’t forget someone one mentioned that you need to max out Cooking and Gourmet Cooking. Don’t worry about that just now. These quests will eventually lead to the process of creating Ambrosia. One step at a time.

One Call Away Quest Walkthrough

This is the second quest assigned to you and your Sims in The Sims 4 with the Reaper’s Rewards Event. The other quest got you started with researching Ambrosia and doing your first gardening. For this quest, it looks at how you can summon the Grim Reaper, as well as getting you started on cooking.

Remember, if you ever get stuck on a task, hover over it in the Event Panel to get some tips.

Wait for the Ambrosia Society Newsletter

For the very first task in this quest, your Sim is sent a copy of the Ambrosia Society Newsletter. This arrives in the post via the mailbox. However, it doesn’t appear in the mailbox immediately. You need to give it about one in-game day for the newsletter to arrive. It’ll turn up in your Sim’s post just like other mail in The Sims 4. Make sure to collect it as soon as possible. The collected newsletter will then appear in your Sim’s Inventory.

Give it a little time and the newsletter will arrive in the post.

Read the Ambrosia Society Newsletter

Now you’ve got the newsletter, you might as well get on and read it. Just select the Ambrosia Society Newsletter from your Sim’s Inventory and choose Read. This action is very quick, but provides a useful pop-up message for you to read. The newsletter will guide you through on how to cook Ambrosia over a series of newsletters. It mentions getting Snapdragon planted, then working on your Cooking and Gardening skills. The pop-up even includes lessons on these two skills, so if you’re unfamiliar with them or just want a quick reminder, it doesn’t hurt to take a look.

The newsletter can be found in your Sim's Inventory, there to be read whenever they're ready.

Cook a Recipe While Level 3 or Higher

For this task, you not only need to cook something, but you must do it with Cooking skill of at least level 3. If your Sim isn’t at the required level yet, there are a few ways to build Cooking. They can read the Cooking Skill Vol 1 book, watch the Cooking Channel on TV, or take skill classes (if you have Discover University). The best way to learn to cook though is by actually doing it.

The Cooking Skill builds quicker when Sims are actively cooking, even if they do have a few disasters at first, such as setting fire to the kitchen (and themselves) or producing a poor quality meal. Make sure there’s a fire alarm or sprinkler system in place in case of emergencies, and try to avoid eating badly-made meals, otherwise you’ll have sick Sims. After making a few meals, your Sim should soon get to level 3.

There is something important to note about completing this task. If your Sim is cooking something and they get to level 3 while cooking, the meal they made won’t count towards the task. They need to actually start cooking after they’ve reached level 3 to complete the task.

It doesn’t matter what meal you make for this task. You can make a simple salad or cook something on the stove. Even grilled food counts towards this task.

If your Sim's Cooking skill is a bit low, get them practicing in the kitchen or watching the cooking channel on TV.

Buy The Grimophone

This is an easy enough task. The Grimophone is an object unique to the Reaper’s Rewards Event that is unlocked by completing tasks and earning points. If you have yet to earn enough points through this particular quest, work on the first quest as explained above. It shouldn’t take long though to unlock this object. Make sure to claim the object through the Event UI to officially unlock it and gain access so you can buy it.

The Grimophone can be found in Build Mode, under Electronics > Audio. It costs 650 Simoleons to purchase. Buy it and place it anywhere on your Sim’s property. Once you’ve bought it, don’t get rid of it. You’ll be needing to use it throughout the Reaper’s Rewards Event, including the final task in this quest.

Although The Grimophone is unlocked through completing tasks, you still have to buy it.

Although The Grimophone is unlocked through completing tasks, you still have to buy it.

Summon the Grim Reaper

Now you have The Grimophone, there are a few things you should know about it. On the surface, it is just another stereo that is completely functional, in which you can play music through it. All the usual interactions are there. However, there are some special features. For one thing, when it plays, strange and spooky dark smoke emerges from the horn. The main thing though is that you can use The Grimophone to Summon the Grim Reaper, and that’s exactly what you need to do for this task.

Once you use the interaction, you may need to wait for the Reaper to arrive at your Sim’s property. He’ll be around somewhere, but it’ll take a few moments for him to actually get there. Eventually, the Grim Reaper will turn up and enter your property. He won’t knock and wait to be invited in. He’ll just head inside.

Meet or Speak to the Grim Reaper

With the Grim Reaper at your Sim’s property, there’s just one last thing to do: speak to him. Greet him or use any interaction to socialize with the Reaper and this task will be fulfilled.

One Call Away Quest Conclusion

And there we have it! Another quest done and dusted. The Grim Reaper ends the quest on a final note of advice.

The Grimophone is probably my favorite reward object in Week 1.

Week 1 of Reaper’s Rewards Event Conclusion

If you’ve followed this guide, you should have completed both quests by now and unlocked all available rewards in Week 1 of the Reaper’s Rewards Event in The Sims 4. For now, there’s nothing more you can do until Week 2 comes around, which starts from October 1st, bringing more quests, tasks, and rewards in your ultimate goal of making Ambrosia.
