Echoes of Time Quest Walkthrough
Total Quest Event Points: 50
Let’s jump right in with the first quest of Week 2 in Blast From the Past. This first quest is very straightforward, involving your Sims going off and doing some research. Without further ado, let’s see what they need to do!
Read the History of Time Travel at a Library
Event Points: 25
To start off with, your Sim needs to read up on the history of time travel. Therefore, they need to do the following:
- Head to any Library in The Sims 4. Willow Creek has one, Willow Creek Archive. It’s the farthest right Lot along Crawdad Quarter (aka where all the businesses are in Willow Creek.)
- Select any bookcase at the Library and choose Read “History of Time Travel”.
- Wait for your Sim to finish their reading up. It shouldn’t take long.
Study a Historical Display at a Museum
Event Points: 25
The next task that first comes up with this quest asks your Sim to do some studying of a historical display, specifically at a Museum. To do this, you need to:
- Head to any Museum in The Sims 4. Willow Creek also has a Museum (Municipal Muses) along Crawdad Quarter, on the opposite end to the Library.
- At the Museum, select any painting or sculpture and select View. It’ll have Emit Relevart’s icon next to it.
- Wait for your Sim to finish studying the artifact to mark this task as complete.
Experience the Past by Playing The Sims Archives, vol 2
Event Points: 25
Your research at the Library pointed you in the direction of video games regarding time travel. This next task is very easy. You just need to…:
- Find a computer.
- Select the computer and choose Play Game.
- Select Play The Sims Archives, vol. 2.
- Wait for your Sim to finish playing.
Ask an Elder About the Shard
Event Points: 15
As your Sim studied the Museum’s historical pieces, they found a mysterious Shard of Time. Unsure of what it is, it’s probably best you ask an older Sim about it, as they’re more likely to know. For this, you need to:
- Find an Elder Sim. There are lots of Elder Sims around the world in The Sims 4. You can see if they’re of Elder age by hovering over them, and it will show up. You can locate one and introduce yourself to them. Alternatively, if you already know an Elder, you can call them and invite them over to your current lot (providing it’s not late at night).
- Once you’ve located an Elder Sim, use Ask About Shard on them.
- Wait for your Sim to finish conversing with them.
Research Shards of Time
Event Points: 25
The Elder Sim you speak to has heard stories of Shards of Time. They’re reportedly echoes of the past! Your Sim is curious and wants to know more, so naturally, it’s time to do some more research:
- Find a computer.
- Select the option Web. It’ll be on the last set of interactions.
- Select Research.
- Select Research Shards of Time.
- Wait for your Sim to finish their research.
Search Objects for Shards of Time
Event Points: 35
Your Sim’s research has paid off. Apparently, Shards of Time can be found everywhere… if you look in the right places.
For this task, you need to find 3 Shards of Time. They can be found by searching the environment. More specifically, you can use the interaction Search for Shard of Time on the following objects:
- Refrigerators
- Bookcases
- Computers
- Sofas
- Toilets
You’ll probably own most of these objects, so start by searching these at home first. You won’t find a shard in every object you search. It can take a little time, so be persistent. If you’re really struggling, head to the Library. There are lots of bookcases and computers there to search, as well as toilets.
Every time you manage to locate a Shard of Time, you’ll be notified and it’ll appear in your Sim’s Inventory. If a search ends up fruitless, you’ll also be informed. As soon as you’ve got a third Shard of Time, this task will be done.
- Shards can be found in a bookcase…
- …on a computer…
- …in a refrigerator…
- …in a sofa…
- …or even in a toilet!
- Having no luck in one place? Try somewhere like the Library!
Show Emit the Shards of Time
Event Points: 25
Your Sim is fascinated by their new discovery, but how to activate these strange shards? Why not ask Emit!
- Find Emit Relevart. He can be located at Magnolia Blossom Park in Willow Creek, or summoned to your current location via phone.
- Use the Show Shards of Time interaction on Emit.
Echoes of Time Quest Conclusion
That last task officially marked the end of this particular quest for Blast From the Past. However, how this event works is that as soon as you finish the first quest, the second will automatically begin immediately.
Inventing the Past Quest Walkthrough
Total Quest Event Points: 50
The conclusion of the first quest rolls right into this second one. After showing Emit the shards, he reveals that they can be used to build a time machine… and that gives him an idea. Why don’t you build your own time machine?!
Read Theoretical Electronics at a Library
Event Points: 25
This first task is very simple. You just need to:
- Head to a Library.
- Select a bookcase and choose Read Theoretical Electronics.
- Wait for your Sim to finish reading.
Repair Something While Level 2 Handiness or Higher
Event Points: 35
The task above is very easy. The next two take a little more time to complete – but they’re not impossible. We’ll start with this first one: you need to get your Sim’s Handiness Skill to at least level 2, and then Repair something that’s broken.
Building Handiness Skill
Getting Handiness to level 2 is pretty easy in The Sims 4. You can do the following to get there:
- Craft items at a woodworking station. You can purchase them in Buy Mode or head to a commercial lot that has one. For example, there’s one at the Art Center in San Myshuno (The Sims 4 City Living Expansion) and The Rec Center in San Sequoia (The Sims 4 Growing Together Expansion). You may need to craft one or two items to get the Handiness Skill to level 2.
- Repair an object, any object. Select any broken object, whether it be a plumbing item, kitchen appliance, or electronic, and select Repair. Be very careful with electronics. Your Sim is more prone to getting a nasty electric shock!
- Read a Handiness Book. This is a safe option for getting that Handiness Skill up. You can purchase a Handiness Skill book, or… you can claim a free book from the Event Screen. After completing all of the Echoes in Time tasks, you should have plenty of points to unlock it.
- An extra tip: when doing anything that builds the Handiness Skill, make sure your Sim is in a Focused Mood. They can get into this mood by using Ponder Moves at a chess table or Browse Simpedia at a computer.
Repairing an Object
Once your Sim has reached level 2 of the Handiness Skill, they’re not quite done yet. To prove their new skill, they need to repair an object. This can be any object at all, so long as it needs fixing. Upgrading an object doesn’t count towards this task, so don’t bother.
This particular request is easier said than done if there are no objects around to fix, and you don’t know when one will become available. You might get lucky. However, to quickly get an object broken so you can fix it, here’s what you can do that won’t take too long:
- Buy the cheapest sink available.
- Get your Sim to wash their hands in this sink over and over. The sink will eventually become dirty. Keep going until water spews out of the tap. It’s broken!
- Repair the broken sink.
- Wait for your Sim to finish fixing it. Providing your Sim is at level 2 Handiness, you’ll be done.
Exercise Your Mind While Level 2 or Higher in Logic
Event Points: 35
This one is much easier than the Handiness task. You need to get your Sim’s Logic Skill to level 2, then do something that builds Logic.
Building Logic Skill
Building your Sim’s Logic Skill is very easy in The Sims 4. You can do the following:
- Play chess at a chess table.
- Use a telescope, either the small one or giant one.
- Use a microscope.
- Reading a Logic Skill book. You get a free one you can claim by completing Blast From the Past tasks.
- Like the Handiness Skill, Logic builds faster when your Sim is Focused.
Logic Activities
Once your Sim reaches level 2 of the Logic Skill, they just need to do any of the listed activities above and this task will get checked off.
Collect Plathinum
Event Points: 35
Doing the task where you read up on Theoretical Electronics provides some critical information regarding the next set of tasks in this quest. It states that a time travel component can be built with:
- Plathinum
- Ironyum
- A common electronic component
It does mention that there’s a fourth item, but it doesn’t state what. However, three out of four isn’t bad, and gives us something to work on. Fortunately, these three listed items can be found in The Sims 4.
Plathinum and Ironyum can both be found in the same way: by digging in rocks and dirt mounds. Specifically, the tooltip suggests that you search for these items in the Desert Bloom Park, located in Oasis Springs. With this in mind, here’s what you need to do if you want to find these items fast:
- Make a trip over to the park in Oasis Springs. If you have yet to visit this park (ie by playing a new game), then when you arrive, it’s likely there won’t be any rocks or mounds to search. Don’t worry though. Spend a few hours at the park and they’ll soon start appearing everywhere.
- As soon as these rocks and mounds show up, send your Sim over to do some digging.
- Plathinum should appear after searching the first rock/mound. It’ll appear in your Sim’s Inventory.
Collect Ironyum
Event Points: 35
Ironyum is the second item needed to build a time travel component. To find it, you just need to follow the exact same instructions as above for locating Plathinum. You should be able to find Ironyum right after Plathinum.
If for some reason you don’t find both Ironyum and Plathinum straight away, keep searching all the rocks and mounds in the park. You’ll find them eventually!
Obtain an Electronic Upgrade Part
Event Points: 25
This third task is probably much easier than the last two. You just need to get your hands on an Electronic Upgrade Part. This can be obtained in the following ways:
- Using the Order > Upgrade Parts interaction on a computer. Electronic Upgrade Parts cost §120 each. You just need one for this task though.
- You may get one from repairing an electronic item such as a computer, stereo, or TV.
- Electronic Upgrade Parts may be found when Scavenging for Parts on a pile after an object has been repaired. These aren’t very common to find though, especially for lower level Sims.
If you want to get this task done quickly, just use a computer to buy an Electronic Upgrade Part.
Build the Time Travel Component
Event Points: 15
This task can actually appear after finding one of the three listed items above, but it’s best to wait to do it until you’ve got all the parts you need. Now is the exciting part… assembling all the pieces to build the Time Travel Component! It’s also the final task for not just this quest, but this week of Blast From the Past, so as soon as you’re done, that’s it!
All you need to do is:
- Select the Shard of Time in your Sim’s Inventory.
- Select the option Build Time Travel Component.
If you lose any of the parts needed to build the Time Travel Component, don’t panic. These can be replaced for a fee at your Sim’s mailbox, and includes:
- Shard of Time – §150
- Electronic Upgrade Part – §180
- Ironyum – §120
- Plathinum – §30
Inventing the Past Quest Conclusion
You’ve now got yourself a Time Travel Component! What you do with it exactly will have to wait until next week’s quests.
Blast From the Past Week 2 Rewards
Week 1 of Blast From the Past brought a good offering of items. Week 2 is no different. Here’s everything you can unlock and claim in Week 2 of Blast From the Past in The Sims 4:
- Handiness Vol 1 Skill Book: This first unlockable is actually very useful, as you’ll need it in one of the tasks for the second quest. Make sure to claim it as soon as it’s available!
- Get Up! Alarm Clock: Unlike the phones, this alarm clock is fully functional! You can set the alarm to go off in the morning, afternoon, evening, or during the night, then choose the specific hour for it to ring. Pretty handy! It costs §200.
- Missing Sim Milk Carton 3: You get two more milk cartons, the new collectible for Blast From the Past. This one has a picture of Bella Goth on it.
- 500 Simoleons: Free money!
- The Relevart Neck Stabilizer: If you admired Emit Relevart’s fancy glowing bow tie, you can now wear it! You can find it in Create-A-Sim under the neckwear category.
- Bigger Gatherings Banquet: This special table is perfect for throwing parties and big events, if you want to serve up lots of hungry Sims. It costs §455.
- Logic Vol 1 Skill Book: Logic is another skill that comes up this week, particularly in the second quest. You might want to use this!
- Missing Sim Milk Carton 4: This is the fourth milk carton you can unlock. This one has Skip Broke’s picture.
- Be “The Emit”: With this outfit, you get the complete Emit Relevart look. It just looks so cool on your Sims!
- Programming Vol 1 Skill Book: Interestingly, the last free item is a Programming Skill book. This particular skill didn’t appear in either quests this week, but maybe next week…? Best to be prepared!
- Hey, free skill books!
- More milk cartons!
- The alarm clock really is an alarm clock!
- This banquet table will be great for hosting big events.
- This bow tie is just too cool.
- Now you can dress just like Emit!
Blast From the Past Week 2 Conclusion
And that’s a wrap… for Week 2 at least. We still have two more weeks to go of the Blast From the Past Event in The Sims 4, but we’re already halfway through! Week 3 will commence from Tuesday 18th February, where hopefully we can put some use to the new Time Travel Component and solve some more mysteries!
