You can check the official E3 2018 roster out for yourself, to see who’s expected this time around. Yet, in the case of CD Projekt Red, it is exciting to think their attendance at E3 2018 is to display Cyberpunk 2077 to some capacity. Nearing the end of last year, CD Projekt Red CFO Piotr Nielubowicz made a video stating how financially comfortable the company was, despite pouring millions of dollars into Cyberpunk’s development. Closer again to the end of 2017, there was also an injection of around 300 new staff on the development team. All of this would suggest that, by the time E3 2018 rolls around, Cyberpunk would be ready to display to some capacity.
Needless to say, it’s been a long time coming. We first saw the renowned teaser trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 back in 2012. This was before we had our first taste of what to expect in The Witcher 3! It’s also worth noting that, in January this year, the Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter came alive for the first time in four years which is yet another leaning towards imminent prevalence of the game.
All of that said, we should not assume anything. In a publicly released document for CD Projekt Red’s coming years, it stated that Cyberpunk will release somewhere between now and 2021 which leaves quite an open timeline for now. On top of this, within the same timeframe, CD Projekt Red intends to release another, as yet unnamed and unannounced AAA RPG title. Although, it could be said that one thing the studio excels at is meeting fan expectations and managing those expectations accordingly. It could well be, the initial teaser for Cyberpunk 2077 was released way back in 2012 as a part of the grand plan for release day. If all of this is a premeditated marketing plan, the supposed reveal at E3 2018 is going to be huge.
Cyberpunk 2077 is a sci-fi open world title, featuring the Night City found found in Mike Pondsmith’s pen and paper tabletop game. It features many classes, different to our typical expectations, including rogue cop, journalist and rock star to name but a few. It will also boast a game world three times the size of The Witcher 3. Stick around at KeenGamer for future updates.
