Cyberpunk 2077 Hit Gold

After all these years, Cyberpunk 2077 has finally hit gold, meaning a complete hard copy has been printed. Now the studio will print physical copies to distribute upon the November launch. Meanwhile, it still has work to do as the company will go under weeks of crunch leading to release.

Through a tweet today, CD Projekt Red has given us the news that the world has waited for the past seven years, Cyberpunk 2077 has gone gold with an image of Keanu Reeves’ character Johnny Silverhand holding up a golden disc.

When a developer says the game the team has worked on has gone gold, it means that a complete copy of the game has been printed on a disc. Now it is time to start printing more for global distribution when it launches in a month.

It does not mean the developers get to rest as it still needs to polish itself up before getting into the hands of gamers worldwide. Last week on September 29, Bloomberg reported that the studio would go into six weeks of mandatory crunch.  Regarding the decision as contradicting statements have been made when it comes to the extreme overtime, studio head Adam Badowski took to writing to the staff about why this has had to happen.

“I take it upon myself to receive the full backlash for the decision,” he wrote. “I know this is in direct opposition to what we’ve said about crunch. It’s also in direct opposition to what I personally grew to believe a while back — that crunch should never be the answer. But we’ve extended all other possible means of navigating the situation.”

The FPS RPG has had a long development. The first teaser showcasing the studio taking the Cyberpunk 2020 tabletop game into a further future for its following AAA project after the release of 2015’s The Witcher 3 debuted back in 2013. Since then, we have had multiple delays, the latest of which sent the game from September to November

To continue momentum despite delays, the studio has had Night City Wire, a series to give updates regarding the game’s development and deeper insight into its gameplay and world. The latest episode showed off the gangs of Night City, along with how the studio created this world. We recently got a new commercial featuring the John Wick and Matrix actor, who will star as an important character, Johnny Silverhand.
