During the first episode of Night City Wire, a series of updates on CD Projekt Red’s upcoming Cyberpunk 2077, has announced an anime series called Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. This standalone story will take place in Night City but will be separate from the game to be open for a wider audience.
“The stage is Night City, but everything else is totally new,” Producer Saya Elder said. “New characters, new story. I do like to think that it’s going to be a great gateway for newcomers to come and check Cyberpunk game and also the Cyberpunk genre as a whole.”
The Polish game studio is teaming up with Studio Trigger. The Japanese animation company has worked on a variety of shows like Kill la Kill and films like Little Witch Academia. It has also worked on video games like Shantae and the Seven Sirens and Fire Emblem Fates.
Cyberpunk 2077 will launch on November 19 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Players will also get a free upgrade for the next-gen consoles, Xbox Series X and PS5. It’s anime counterpart, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will premiere on Netflix sometime in 2022 and will consist of 10 episodes.
