Players often report excessive PUBG: Battlegrounds lagging makes the game hard to play. For example, this is what one player said on Reddit, “Ever since a couple of updates ago (maybe 3?) every time at the start of any match my game (PUBG) is lagging so much that it is almost impossible to play.” Excessive lag can make PUBG: Battlegrounds unplayable for some. This is how you can fix PUBG lagging on Windows PCs.

Lower In-Game PUBG Graphical Settings
Lowering in-game graphical settings will more likely have a positive effect on the game’s FPS rather than reduce network lag. Nevertheless, applying this fix might still make PUBG somewhat smoother to play. Try lowing the basic and advanced graphical settings in PUBG as follows:
- Resolution: Lowest (or at least lower than currently set)
- Lobby FPS Cap: Unlimited
- In-Game FPS Cap: Unlimited
- Smoothed Frame Rate: Enable
- Render Scale: 70
- Overall Graphics Quality: Very Low (or lower than current setting)
- Sharpen: Disable
- V-Sync: Disable
- Motion Blur: Disable
Set High-Performance Graphics for PUBG
The High-Performance graphics setting can potentially remedy PUBG lagging by increasing resource allocation. This potential fix will likely work better if your PC has two GPUs because that option sets a dedicated graphics card. You can set a high-performance graphical option for PUBG like this:
- Activate the file search box with the Windows logo + S key combination.
- Enter Graphics settings inside the file search box and select the matching result.
- Click Browse to select the TslGame.exe file in Steam > steamapps > common > PUBG > TslGame > Binaries > Win64.
- Press the Add option button.
- Click Options for TslGame.
- Select High Performance and Save.
Disable Superlous Background Apps
Unneeded background apps that drain system resources can cause PUBG lagging to arise. That’s especially the case for more network-intensive apps that hog bandwidth. So, try disabling unneeded background apps via Settings like this:
- Activate the search box for finding files and apps.
- Enter Background apps into the search tool.
- Click Backgrounds apps to access that part of Settings.
- Turn off the Let apps run in the background setting.
- Open Task Manager by right-clicking a space on the taskbar and selecting its shortcut option.
- Next, close network-intensive background apps on the Processes tab in Task Manager by selecting them and clicking End task.
Turn on Game Mode
The Windows Game Mode prioritizes system resources and limits background activity (such as Windows updates) for games when enabled, which can potentially reduce lag. So, try turning that mode on if you haven’t already. You can turn on Game Mode like this:
- Open the tool for file searching in Windows.
- Enter Game Mode in the search tool.
- Click Game Mode settings in your search results.
- Turn on the Game Mode option by clicking its toggle switch.
Update Graphical and Network Drivers
Outdated graphical and network device drivers can potentially cause PUBG lagging or stuttering (FPS drops) to arise. So, try updating your graphical driver with any method in this KeenGamer guide. You can also update your PC’s network drivers with the Driver Booster software, as covered in method five in that guide.
Disable Firewalls
The Battlegrounds’ support service recommends players disable firewalls to fix PUBG lagging. This is because background firewalls can cause network interference for games. Try temporarily disabling the Windows Defender Firewall before playing PUBG like this:
- Click the Type here to search the taskbar icon or box.
- Input Windows Defender Firewall inside the file search box and click the matching result.
- Click Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off navigation option within the Control Panel.
- Next, click the Turn on Windows Defender Firewall radio button for private and public settings.
- Select OK to set the firewall options selected.
- Play PUBG with the firewall disabled.
If this works, try adding PUBG to your firewall’s exclusion. You can do that for the Windows firewall by clicking Allow an app or feature in the WDF Control Panel applet. Click Change settings and select the Public and Private checkboxes for the PUBG game.
Other Possible Ways to Fix PUBG Lagging on a Windows PC
Try applying the potential fixes for PUBG lagging above first. If they don’t have enough impact, these additional fixes might also reduce lag in PUBG:
- Select a High-performance power option via the Control Panel.
- Execute the ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew, and netsh winsock reset commands via the Command Prompt.
- Disable the Override high DPI scaling behavior option for TslGame and ExecPubg game files.
- Select a High-priority option for the TslGame.exe process via the Details tab in Task Manager.
There isn’t necessarily any guaranteed way to fix lag in PUBG: Battlegrounds. However, those potential fixes might at least reduce PUBG lagging on your PC when applied. Then, you can play an altogether smoother and more responsive PUBG game.
