The sparking of rumours for a new Grand Theft Auto game has been lighting up across the internet lately. According to multiple different rumours, Rockstar Games may be revisiting Vice City for the upcoming GTA 6. Here we’ll be exploring the news circulating about returning to this iconic setting.
Updated Domains
The biggest clues to the rumours being true were Take-Two, Rockstar’s parent company, updating domains. One was for “gtavicecityonline“, and the other “gtavi.com“. These were updated quietly this year, and have only just been discovered this week. The discovery was fuelled by a Reddit user being first to point it out.

GTA Vice City is a beloved title in the series, and was originally released on the PS2 in 2002. For longtime fans, returning to this city would be a lovely nostalgia trip. GTA 6 has been rumoured to have been in development for a few years now, but maybe we’re even closer to a trailer than we thought.
80’s Radio Music
These domains being filed can be backed up by an earlier rumour from this month. Peter Bryan Rice, a musician for an “80’s Electric Synth project” called Vector Hold, claimed that many different artists like him had been in talks with Rockstar. A now-deleted tweet once wrote,
GTA 6 will most likely take place in Vice City. Music rights clearing people have been hitting up Synthwave artists for a Radio Station.
GTA games are known to have an array of radio stations and great songs to listen to while driving. Even so, him deleting the tweet over the possibility of secrecy leads many to believe it’s true.
Timed Exclusivity
It’s getting more and more common that games get tied to certain consoles for specific periods of time. Just like Final Fantasy VII Remake, another rumour has popped up about GTA 6 becoming a timed PS5 exclusive. A YouTuber named Foxy Games UK claimed that a deal coming from one of the industry’s biggest franchises is coming first to the PS5.
The conversation on anti-consumerism has already circulated the conversation lately. Microsoft fans were angry that Spider-man won’t be coming to Marvel’s Avengers on the Xbox. It’s already common for Sony to take as many exclusives as they can, but this exclusivity claim is a strange one.
According to the YouTuber, this deal would only be a 30 day period. It seems like such a short amount of time for what he’s claiming to be a $750 million deal. It may be a stretch, but it isn’t impossible. Microsoft wants to focus on power, whereas Sony wants to focus on exclusives. It would be beneficial for Sony, but maybe not Rockstar as a whole.
A Higher Price
Last month, Take-Two announced they would hike the cost of their next-gen games, starting with NBA 2K21. $60 USD and $80 CAD has been the norm for years now, but with the cost of making games these days, it’s not surprising they want to raise prices to $70 USD.
Then a month later, CEO Strauss Zelnick explained to GamesIndustry.biz the reasoning behind their actions,
“There hasn’t been a price increase for frontline titles for a really long time, despite the fact that it costs a great deal more to make those titles” … “And we think with the value we offer consumers…and the kind of experience you can really only have on these next-generation consoles, that the price is justified.”
Even if the company just speaks for themselves, they may set a standard for future titles. Since Take-Two owns Rockstar Games, it wouldn’t be surprising to find out that GTA 6 will cost $10 more than usual.
Conclusion
From Vice City, to exclusivities and costs, GTA 6 rumours have been bubbling to the surface more than ever. Do you think these rumours could be true? Will you be getting GTA 6 at launch? Let us know your thoughts!

I’d be totally down to another 80’s adventure in Vice City, Vice City is still one of my all time favourite games, so much so that ever couple years I’ll go back and complete it.
