Grand Theft Auto 5 is coming to the next-generation console…again! It clearly did not put a smile on our faces, but this announcement shouldn’t bother you too much. Major upgrades are heading to Grand Theft Auto V for players who purchase the game for next-gen consoles. Those upgrades will keep you busy and entertain you for a long time, and part of why you should consider Grand Theft Auto V for the PS5 or Xbox Series X.
So, what’s Rockstar’s plan to attract players to buy it again? The simple plan is to make exclusive upgrades for players who move to the next-generation console. In that way, Rockstar can squeeze out some extra money from people without putting too much effort. Although Rockstar really want to earn as much as they can from GTA V, that doesn’t mean the fun has ended. The game will be more fun and long-lasting than ever. The upgraded GTA V will have “visual upgrades and performance enhancements to take full advantage of the latest hardware”, which will make the game look absolutely stunning (which it already does, but now even more beautiful).
Along with visual upgrades, Rockstar mentioned that “…GTA Online will continue on to the new generation with more new updates including additional GTA Online content exclusive to the new consoles and PC”. That’s the information that we got so far, but they never revealed details. There may be a potential map expansion, which is very welcome to players. As I said, we don’t know, and that’s exactly why you should give it a try and not pass it instantly just because it’s the same title.
Rockstar’s controversial decision
Why in the world would we want a 7-year old game to move to next-gen? It’s actually not bad marketing from Rockstar, considering the game is, still, one of the most played games globally. I’d say they took a step in the right direction because fans aren’t tired of the game yet, so there’s no need to stop supporting the game. Apparently, Rockstar’s prime revenue comes from microtransaction, and that’s what the team will work on for now. However, Rockstar’s main focus is online gaming. They’re moving players from single-player mode to online, since the content are only available for GTA Online. Because of that reason, they’re releasing a standalone version of GTA Online in the second half of 2021. It may even introduce new players to the great franchise.
It’s all about each person’s mindset and expectations that doesn’t welcome the game to the next-gen consoles. If we’re more patient and start looking at the bright side, it doesn’t have to be bad. Still, we’re not entirely sure what exactly will be included in this upgrade. The announcement trailer, however, shouldn’t leave you disappointed just because it doesn’t show anything new. There’s no reason to buy GTA V for the next-gen console if there wasn’t anything new, and therefore, we all should expect new content. Even though there wouldn’t be enough new content at launch, there will definitely be more post-launch upgrades. In the meantime, Rockstar are surely keeping a secret from us. With GTA V releasing for PS5 and Xbox Series X, it doesn’t mean the team isn’t working with another project on the side.
Before showing your disappointment, everyone should first have a try and discover the new features and content. The game may be similar, but certainly not worse! After all, it’s one of the greatest games ever made.
