Pokémon Go launched on July 6th 2016. And for the Pokémon Go 7th Anniversary, Niantic has a lot to look forward to. Not just for one day either. To commemorate this milestone, the game will have bonuses and special events for a full week. This event starts on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. to Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at 8:00 p.m. All of the times and days listed are local time.
Costumed Pokémon
It wouldn’t be a proper celebration without some party hats. During the event the following Pokémon will appear wearing a party hat:
- Squirtle*
- Wartortle
- Blastoise*
Squirtle with a party hat that are evolved will keep their party hat as Wartortle and Blastoise. Pokémon marked with “*” can appear shiny in the wild.
Event Bonuses
During the 7th Anniversary Event Trainers can look forward to the following bonuses every day:
- Increased chance of becoming Lucky Friends. Trainers should trade with friends as much as possible to benefit from this bonus. And don’t forget that these bonuses stack with the ones granted by Season of Hidden Gems.
- Increased chance of Pokémon becoming lucky during trades. It should be clear that trading is a must to get the most out of this event.
- Chance of finding 7, 77, or even more Gimmighoul Coins when spinning a Pokéstop that has an active Golden Lure. Since it takes 9,999 coins to evolve a Gimmighoul into Gholdengo, this is a fantastic chance for Trainers to acquire one.
It’s our seventh anniversary, Trainers! 🥳
Come join the 7th Anniversary Party and celebrate with 7 days of in-game bonuses starting July 6!

Daily Bonuses
In addition to the above bonuses, the Pokémon Go 7th Anniversary will have bonuses that change each day of the event. It would be wise for Trainers to try and take advantage of each of these bonuses by logging into the game every day. These bonuses last from 12:00 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. local time each day.
- On July 6th, catching Pokémon will grant Double Experience. Trainers should catch everything they can. And don’t forget to use a lucky egg to boost this bonus further.
- On July 7th, catching Pokémon will grant Double Stardust. Like the day before, Trainers should catch everything they can. Don’t forget to use a star piece to boost this bonus even further.
- On July 8th, catching Pokémon will grant Double Candy. Trainers should use Pinap Berries on Pokémon before catching them to boost this bonus even further.
- On July 9th, Eggs will only require half the normal distance to hatch if placed in an Incubator during this specific day. Trainers should stock up on incubators and save them for this bonus to maximize it.
- On July 10th, Friendship levels with other Trainers will increase twice as fast. Considering that maxing friendship is one of the most efficient ways to level up in Pokémon Go, it will be worthwhile for Trainers to send and receive gifts as well as raid and trade with as many friends as possible to maximize this bonus.
- On July 11th, Trainers will receive double candy when sending Pokémon to the Professor. Trainers can transfer any Pokémon in their inventory to get this bonus. Not just ones caught during the event.
- On July 12th, Trainers will get double experience for evolving Pokémon. It would be worthwhile for Trainers to stockpile some Pokémon to evolve to get the most out of this bonus. And don’t forget to use a Lucky Egg.

In addition, there will also be research tasks that reward Mega Energy to the following Pokémon:
- Venusaur
- Charizard

Following the theme of Starter Pokémon, the above are the final evolutions of many of those starters. These ones happen to all have Mega Forms available in Pokémon Go.
Timed Research
During the Pokémon Go 7th Anniversary there will be a special paid timed research for Trainers. Here are the rewards for said Timed Research:
- 1 Incubator
- 1 Super Incubator
- 1 Premium Battle Pass
- 1 Lucky Egg
- 1 Rocket Radar
- 1 Star Piece
- 1 Incense
- 77,777 Experience
- An encounter with Pikachu wearing a party hat
Since this timed Research costs US $2.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency) its up to Trainers to decided whether the rewards above are worth the price tag.
Remember Trainers, that unlike some Research Tasks, this one is timed. All tasks must be complete and all rewards claimed before the event ends on July 12th.
Masterwork Research story, All-in-One #151
This Research Story was originally available during the Pokémon Go Tour: Kanto and it rewarded Trainers with a Shiny Mew. During the Pokemon Go 7th Anniversary event, this Research will return. For $5.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency) that is. As with all priced events, it is up to Trainers to decide whether the rewards are worth it or not. Shiny Mew can only be obtained this way. For Trainers interested in a shiny Mew, this is the only way to obtain one.
Trainers will be able to purchase the ticket up until Wednesday July 12th. It should be noted that unlike the timed research, this task has no time limit. Which is a good thing, because it will take Trainers a long time to complete these tasks. Once the ticket is purchased, it will start so long as Trainers log in during the event.
By purchasing the ticket, or for Trainers who already got this research in the past, special bonuses will activate.
- Double Incense duration. That means that many more extra spawns while Playing Pokémon Go.
- Double Daily Adventure Incense duration. This item is the only way to obtain Galarian Zapdos, Galarian Articuno, and Galarian Moltress. Double the amount of time increases your chances of finding one. But you will need some luck to catch one still.
- Double Lure Duration. Place them in high traffic areas and plenty of other Trainers will be thankful for the boosted lures.
Please note that Trainers that have already completed Masterwork Research story, All-in-One #151 will not be able to complete it a second time.
Squirtle Community Day
Squirtle Community Day Classic will occur during the Pokémon Go 7th Anniversary Event. The bonuses active on July 9th will stack with the ones provided by this event. Trainers will not want to miss the chance to take part in both these events simultaneously and earn the rewards from both.
New Avatar Items and Stickers
New Avatar items will be available in the shop that can be purchased with coins once the event starts. They will still be there after the event ends.
- 7th Anniversary Top Set
- 7th Anniversary Pants
In addition, Trainers will be able to obtain stickers themed around the Pokémon Go 7th Anniversary by spinning Pokestops.
There is a lot happening in Pokémon Go, and KeenGamer has all the up to date information on what’s going on in the game. Be safe out there Trainers and enjoy the 7th Anniversary Event.
