Niantic announced today that players of the successful mobile game Pokémon GO can finally connect with Game Freak’s Pokémon HOME service. Rolling out incrementally to all Trainers based on current Trainer Level, the new connectivity feature takes the form of something called the GO Transporter.
Upon their first successful transfer, players will also be able to receive a Melmetal to use in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. This is the first time players have been able to obtain a Melmetal that can Gigantamax, making it a particularly exciting reward.
An important thing to note is that each time the GO Transporter is used, its energy is drained and must recharge over time. Of course, the energy can be replenished through the purchase of PokéCoins, so you can achieve your goals through the power of microtransactions. The amount of energy used is different for each Pokémon.
Obtaining Melmetal is a very easy process. After making your first transfer, use the Mystery Gift feature on the Pokémon HOME mobile app to obtain Melmetal, then use the Nintendo Switch version of Pokémon HOME to transfer it to your Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield titles. As another bonus, players can open a Mystery Box in Pokémon GO to cause Meltan to appear on the map for a limited time.
Pokémon HOME compatibility is rolling out starting today for players who have achieved level 40 and will be available for lower-level players soon.
