If you’re an avid Dead by Daylight player, you definitely know what Iridescent Shards are. These shiny little points allow you to unlock valuable in-game items by just playing the game. While you can also get Auric Cells by purchasing them with real money, trying to farm Iridescent Shards to unlock some of the game’s best characters and outfits is sometimes a better choice. But at times it may feel like farming Iridescent Shards requires too much of a grind. And I’m not going to lie: most of the time it is. But on my 1500+ hours playing this game I can assure you that there are methods to start earning more Iridescent Shards and start unlocking them faster in Dead by Daylight. If you want to learn the little secrets I’ve discovered during my time playing the game, keep reading!
How to Unlock Iridescent Shards in Dead by Daylight
Ok then. The first thing you have to know is which ones are the possible methods to unlock Iridescent Shards in Dead by Daylight. There are very few of them, but there are actually a couple more methods than people usually think there are. Let’s take a look at all of them so you can start racking up those points!
Shards allow you to unlock some of the best characters in the game.
Play More, Level Up More
The traditional method to earn Iridescent Shards every regular Dead by Daylight player should already know is playing the game normally to earn XP and level up more. I’m not going to deep dive into this method because I already talked about this in my guide of How to Level Up Fast in Dead by Daylight, but I’m still going to leave it here so you have a good understanding of it.
To make it short: play the game regularly. That’s the first thing you should do if you want to get a lot of Iridescent Shards. There’s no way around it, you can’t get thousands of these points just by using the other methods of this guide. But they are definitely still going to reduce the steep.
Play regularly and follow the methods below to get this many shards as quickly as you can!
Keep Track of the In-game Events!
This method to farm more Iridescent Shards than you usually get is very important as well and the one that makes me keep coming back to the game every single time. Even if this isn’t your main source of Shards, it is still a very good one.
Dead by Daylight is a game that is constantly evolving. It receives a lot of content and there are many events throughout the year that allow players to earn more Bloodpoints and Iridescent Shards. Make sure to follow Dead by Daylight’s social media (especially Twitter) for news on their current in-game events and log-in rewards. Yes, sometimes you can receive Iridescent Shards just by logging into the game! And other times, they will add special features that will make you level up faster by adding XP boosts for your Player Level, thus allowing you to earn Iridescent Shards way faster for an entire week! So make sure to keep track of these events, as they have given me thousands of Iridescent Shards whenever I’ve been able to play while these events are active.
Below you have a small example of an XP bonus that was active last week. October is right around the corner (which means the spooky season is almost here), and Dead by Daylight tends to offer several benefits to gain more Iridescent Shards around Halloween, and they even add discounts to unlock characters with Shards! So, now you know, make sure to log into the game and play regularly through the month of October to not miss the opportunity to unlock as many characters and outfits as you can.

Pay Attention to the Game’s Hidden Codes!
And last but not least, let’s not forget about the codes in Dead by Daylight. Inside the in-game store, there is an option to redeem codes. Most of the codes you can redeem here are secret and often grant extra BloodPoints, Rift Fragments, and even Iridescent Shards. Players discover more codes each month and sometimes even developers drop them in their social media (another reason to follow Dead by Daylight on Twitter!). There are also several accounts dedicated to keeping track of the game’s currently active codes so you should also follow them to not lose the chance to grasp one of these wonderful codes.

Keep in mind most of these codes (like the one used above as an example) tend to expire relatively quickly. That’s why, make sure to redeem them as soon as possible after taking note of them.
