Being an online multiplayer game, Dead by Daylight is all about unlocking new perks, helpful add-ons, and cosmetic rewards to show everyone else the dedication you have given to this game. But unlocking these rewards require you to level up, which takes a lot of effort and time. If you’re a recurrent Dead by Daylight player, you probably have wondered about fast methods to level up in the game. While there isn’t a specific trick to level up like crazy, there are a few points you should consider to ease the climbing in The Entity’s trials.
How to Level Up Fast in Dead by Daylight
The first thing you have to determine is what (and even who) you want to level up. There are several progression mechanics in this asymmetric multiplayer horror game, so below you will find an explanation for each of them along with a few tips to level them up more quickly.
The Player Level is the general progression of your account. This level does not give your characters any upgrades or benefits. The only thing you get by gaining XP and leveling up your Player Level is tons of Iridescent Shards, which can be used to unlock characters and cosmetics inside the game’s shop.
Here you have a list of how much XP you need to gain in order to reach each Player Level:
- Level 2: 720 XP.
- Level 3: 900 XP.
- Levels 4 to 6: 1,200 XP.
- Levels 7 to 14: 2,100 XP.
- Levels 15 to 24: 2,700 XP.
- Levels 25 to 34: 3,300 XP.
- Levels 35 to 49: 3,750 XP.
- Levels 50 to 100: 4,200 XP.
After reaching Level 100, you will go back to Level 1 and the process will repeat infinitely with the same exact XP amounts for each level. This means that in order to reach Level 100 only one time, you need a total of 352,470 XP, which is a very large amount of XP.
How to Increase Your Player Level
In order to gain XP and increase your Player Level, you must simply play matches. For every second you spend alive in a match, you will get 1 XP. You stop gaining XP after 10 minutes have passed in that match (meaning you can get up to 600 XP).
You will also get additional XP depending on the quality of the Emblems you get at the end of the match. The extra XP amount for each Emblem quality is:
- 18 XP for every Iridescent Emblem.
- 12 XP for every Gold Emblem.
- 6 XP for every Silver Emblem.
- No XP Bonus for Bronze Emblems.
Depending on your performance, you can only get up to 4 Emblems at the end of a match. So this XP bonus won’t be a determinant factor to level up in Dead by Daylight.
Rewards for Increasing Your Player Level
The Player Level system rewards you with only one thing: Iridescent Shards. As mentioned before, you can use these to unlock Survivors, Killers, and cosmetics inside the game’s shop. The amount of Iridescent Shards you get after reaching a specific Player Level is as follows:
- Level 2: 50 Iridescent Shards.
- Level 3: 65 Iridescent Shards.
- Levels 4 to 6: 85 Iridescent Shards.
- Levels 7 to 14: 150 Iridescent Shards.
- Levels 15 to 24: 195 Iridescent Shards.
- Levels 25 to 34: 235 Iridescent Shards.
- Levels 35 to 49: 270 Iridescent Shards.
- Levels 50 to 100: 300 Iridescent Shards.
After reaching Level 100, you will go back to Level 1 and the process will repeat infinitely with the same exact Iridescent Shards rewarded for each level. This means that after reaching Level 100 only one time, you will get a total of 25,220 Iridescent Shards.
Tips to Increase Your Player Level Faster
There is only one particular piece of advice to level up more quickly in Dead by Daylight, and that is to play every day. This doesn’t mean that you need to spend a whole day playing the game, but consistency will reward you at the end of the road.
You see, there is also another additional XP Bonus when you play your first match of the day, which will give you 300 XP more after finishing your first match of the day. This counts for both your first Survivor and Killer matches of the day, giving you a total of 600 XP Bonus every single day you play the game.
This Daily XP Bonus will be very rewarding once you get the hang of playing the game consistently. As long as you play at least one Survivor match and one Killer match every day, your Player Level will drastically increase in the long run.
The Character Level, as its own name suggests, is the progression of your characters (both Survivors and Killers). You will need bloodpoints to manually level them up and you can also increase their prestige level after you reach Level 50 with any of them.
There isn’t an exact amount of bloodpoints needed to increase your character’s level to 50, but it can take 750,000 to 1,000,000 bloodpoints approximately. There is a total of 100 prestige levels, but you only get rewards up to Prestige 9.
How to Increase Your Character Level
In order to increase your Character Level, you must play matches and make sure to perform well in them. The more generators you turn on, teammates you unhook, and chases you manage to escape, the more bloodpoints you will get at the end of the trial.
You can get up to 10,000 bloodpoints in each category, meaning you can get up to 40,000 bloodpoints after finishing a trial. Below you have a small list of every scoring category and which actions increase your bloodpoints in them:
Survivor Score Events
- Objectives: By turning on generators and opening exit doors.
- Survival: By healing yourself and escaping the match alive.
- Altruism: By unhooking and healing teammates.
- Boldness: By extending chases against the Killer and successfully escaping them.
Killer Score Events
- Brutality: By breaking generators, pallets, and walls.
- Deviousness: By using your Killer-specific power.
- Hunt: By chasing Survivors and catching them as soon as possible.
- Sacrifice: By hooking Survivors.
If you perform well in any of these categories, you can get up to 40,000 bloodpoints in a single match. You can use these points inside a character’s bloodweb to unlock items, offerings, and perks. Keep in mind you can hold up to 2,000,000 bloodpoints at a time, so make sure to spend them regularly.
Rewards for Increasing Your Character Level
Aside from the items, offerings, and perks you can unlock inside a character’s bloodweb by spending your bloodpoints in it, you also get special rewards for reaching a specific prestige level with a character. Below you have a small list of the corresponding rewards for each prestige level:
- Prestige 1: Unlocks the character’s Tier 1 of their unique perks for the rest of the characters. Tier 2 and 3 of these perks will also randomly show up in all character’s bloodwebs.
- Prestige 2: Unlocks the character’s Tier 2 of their unique perks for the rest of the characters.
- Prestige 3: Unlocks the character’s Tier 3 of their unique perks for the rest of the characters.
- Prestige 4: Unlocks a blood-stained cosmetic for that character (torso for Survivors, and weapon for Killers).
- Prestige 5: Unlocks a blood-stained cosmetic for that character (legs for Survivors, and body for Killers).
- Prestige 6: Unlocks a blood-stained head cosmetic for that character.
- Prestige 7: Unlocks a charm cosmetic of the character’s Unique Perk 1.
- Prestige 8: Unlocks a charm cosmetic of the character’s Unique Perk 2.
- Prestige 9: Unlocks a charm cosmetic of the character’s Unique Perk 3.
As I mentioned before, your character won’t get any more rewards after reaching Prestige 9, so if you want to assume the tedious task of reaching Prestige 100 with a character, that’s on you!
Tips to Increase Your Character Level Faster
The best way to get more bloodpoints is by using bloodpoints multiplier offerings in every single match. These can be unlocked in every character’s bloodwebs, and some of them can give you really interesting amounts of bloodpoint bonuses!
However, the Bloody Party Streamers, the Escape Cake, and the Survivor Pudding are particularly recommended. These give you a 100% bloodpoints bonus, which is essentially double bloodpoints. Make sure to unlock plenty of these and remember to equip them regularly to easily level up your Dead by Daylight characters!
The Rift is a progression mechanic that is essentially a “battle pass”. You complete challenges and level up the rift pass in the process, which grants you cosmetics and additional bloodpoints. You also get even more rewards if you spend 1,000 Auric Cells to unlock the premium rift pass.
The amount of levels and rewards a rift pass has depends on the specific rift of that season. Each rift is open for roughly 90 days, so you have plenty of time to unlock all rewards if you start playing a few weeks before that rift pass ends.
How to Increase Your Rift Level
In order to increase your rift level, you must complete challenges. These challenges can be done at any moment and you will be able to claim its rewards after you’ve met the corresponding requirements. Some of them even take several matches to complete them.
Rewards for Increasing Your Rift Level
These rewards highly depend on the current Tome. Tomes are based on selected characters, and most rewards inside their corresponding rifts are cosmetics for these particular characters.
“Tome 14: Betrayal” gives several rewards for many characters but especially for Tarhos Kovács “The Knight”, and Vittorio Toscano. Rifts have two different “tracks” to unlock rewards and cosmetics on them:
- The Free Track gives you many bloodpoints for reaching certain levels and a few cosmetics. These rewards are available to all players and you can automatically unlock this track’s rewards by leveling up your rift pass.
- The Premium Track has much more levels and many, many different cosmetics to unlock. This track is available to anyone who purchases it for 1000 Auric Cells and levels up their rift pass by completing challenges.
Tips to Increase Your Rift Level Faster
You can increase your rift level at a slow pace by just playing the game normally. But the best way to level up your Rift Pass fast and easily is to complete every single rift challenge of that particular tome. These challenges will give you bloodpoints and rift fragments, which greatly increase your rift level after you complete all of them.
These challenges are always different each tome and the characters needed to complete some of them also vary. For example, the current tome is all about Tarhos Kovács “The Knight”, and Vittorio Toscano (the newest characters added to the game). You will need to have purchased or unlocked these characters for a few challenges of the tome, so here you have a guide of these two characters if you need help understanding their powers and perks.
Regarding the Game’s Events
This final tip will help you to level up faster on every single aspect of Dead by Daylight, including your Player Level, Character Level, and Rift Pass.
Paying attention to the game’s news and updates is always good for your progression. BHVR is always implementing interesting and fun events that grant you different rewards. Sometimes they give free Double Player Level XP, automatic 100% Bloodpoints multipliers, or special challenges to get even more cosmetic rewards and Rift Fragments for your Rift Pass.
For example, the current Moonlight Burrow event offers different cosmetic rewards and additional bloodpoints for completing extra objectives. Make sure to play the game whenever a new event becomes active to level up faster in every single aspect of the game.
That was my guide to level up fast in Dead by Daylight, which is available for PC on Steam and the Epic Games store, PS4 & PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The new “Tome 14: Betrayal” has just been released with several challenges and new cosmetics to unlock in the game. The Moonlight Burrow event is still active as well to get even more rewards, so now it’s a great moment to jump back into the game. See you all in the fog!
