Over the years Grand Theft Auto V Online has added a whole host of new ways to earn money. From robbing banks to producing ‘goods’, and even running a nightclub. You aren’t short on options to help you keep your criminal empire turning over. And in 2023 a new way of making money was added. Becoming a humble taxi driver. Sure, it isn’t quite as thrilling as fighting to stop a super A.I. blowing up the world but it is honest work! Honest, low-paying work.
In the Experience Improvements update the Taxi driving job was upgraded. With the chance to unlock liveries to a couple of vehicles so that you can use them as Taxies. Or just flaunt them off to other players. The choice is yours! So if you are wondering how to unlock them. Or are wondering if doing these missions is even worth doing in the first place. Then this is the guide for you. Because ol’ Chris has done their homework here. And by gum it really was something. With that said, let us get to it.
Before We Begin
I’m going to be brutally honest with you dear reader. The Taxi missions aren’t worth it at all. And of all the guides I have written here at KeenGamer this Grand Theft Auto V Online Taxi Guide has probably been the most mind-numbing and fruitless I have ever done. Why is that? Well quite simply because the rewards that you get from completing certain milestones here really aren’t worth it at all. And I don’t mean this due to the rewards being underpowered, or that they aren’t fun, or are some percentage not as good as some other thing. What I mean is that the rewards you get are so mediocre that it will cost you more in-game money to buy them than you will actually earn.
I’ll go into the rewards later on in the guide. But if we even just exclude them as, quite frankly, they weren’t available when this update first launched. The amount that you gain per fare increases per completed fare to a maximum of around $2000 after the first ten trips. Assuming that you do everything needed to get all the rewards for doing this in one session, plus a few bonuses, you will get a total of close to $100,000. This might be a little higher or lower depending on how well or not you did.
And as mentioned it takes ten missions to get the max fare of $2000. Given how many other ways there are to make money in Grand Theft Auto V Online. Ways that are far quicker and are more solo player friendly this whole mission tree isn’t really worth it from a pure money point of view. And as I’ll explain later isn’t really worth it when you do include the bonus unlockables you get. With that said, let us discuss what you need to do.
The Basics
Your first step in this guide starting the Taxi missions in Grand Theft Auto V Online is to head to the Downtown Cab Company building. This will give you a quick tutorial on how all of this works as well as unlock the ability to do taxi missions on the fly in any compatible vehicle. The missions themselves function pretty much the same as in past GTA titles. You drive out to the passenger’s location. Then you drive them to the target. The faster you get there the bigger the bonus you will receive. Take too long or take too much damage and you’ll receive a lower tip. I’d recommend doing these missions after you get a good grasp on the layout of the game world to best plan your routes. Though the mini-map will still draw you a route there.
Once you have done your first mission you will unlock the ability to start these missions from any taxi. So if you happen to already own a taxi you can use that. You can even use the taxi that you unlock via sponsorships in the Arena War mode. Which is far faster than the stock version. Once you get into a taxi as a driver you just need to press the B on the keyboard (or the right stick on an Xbox controller, or R3 on a PlayStation controller) and the missions will begin. You can even do these missions when you apply the relevant liveries that you unlock to their corresponding vehicles.
The Challenges
There are two sets of challenges you need to complete to earn the rewards which will be featured in the next section of this Grand Theft Auto V Online Taxi guide. The first one is the most straightforward and the most time-consuming. You need to complete fifty taxi fares across your taxi driver career. Note, that you don’t need to complete fifty in one run. You can split them up into blocks of ten if you want. Or just do them now and again. The choice is yours. I did them all in one go. And quite honestly I wish I hadn’t.
The second set of challenges requires you to complete ten stunt jumps whilst delivering passengers. This one is arguably easier. This depends on your skill and how well or not you know where they are. Repeating the same jump with the same passenger does not count to this total. But you can use the same jump(s) across multiple passengers. With that in mind, you can just go to the same area and complete the same two or three jumps for each passenger you pick up to help speed this up. The stunt jump will only count if you get the caption telling you that you have completed that jump. This is the easier set of missions and can be completed rather quickly and as part of the prior set.
The Rewards
There are five rewards that you can get from doing all of these missions. First is the money which at best will be about $100,000. Secondly, after completing ten missions in one go you will unlock the trade price for the taxi. The fourth reward is for completing the ten stunt jumps which will earn you the Taxi livery for the Eudora. And finally, completing the fifty total fares will bag you the Taxi livery for the Broadway. The cost of these liveries is around $26k each. And, if you don’t already own these vehicles it will cost you $925,000 for the Broadway and $1,250,000 for the Eudora.
When the Taxi liveries is applied to these vehicles they can be used as taxies. Which is a neat feature. However, from the research that I have done, both the Broadway and the Eudora are slower than the standard taxi. And far slower than the taxi you unlock from the Arena War sponsorship. And by the time you do unlock them, I think it is fair to say you probably never want to do these missions again. But hey, they do look great. So for the sake of showing off and possibly roleplaying you’ve got a vehicle that the vast majority of other players likely won’t have. If you’re just in this for the money then quite honestly don’t bother. There are far quicker and more lucrative ways to make money in this game. And the Taxi system isn’t it.
And so concludes this Grand Theft Auto V Online Taxi Guide. I hope you find it useful. If you did be sure to share it with your friends. And be sure to check the other GTA Guides on this site.
