If you couldn’t get enough of Sucker Punch’s samurai game, how would you feel about an appearance on the big screen? Announced this morning from Deadline, a Ghost of Tsushima movie is in the works by John Wick director Chad Stahelski. As surprising as this sounds, it makes sense seeing as it recently surpassed 6.5 million copies sold.
Stahelski, who has extensive directing experience between the previously mentioned action franchise starring Keanu Reeves, will be leading the adaptation. Through his new company 87Eleven Entertainment, he will work alongside Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan from PlayStation Productions. Sucker Punch will also be overseeing the project as executive producers.
After the announcement of Sony launching its own film and television studio in 2019, we’ve slowly seen more and more games declare an arrival to the big screen. From HBO’s The Last of Us to the Uncharted movie starring Tom Holland, this isn’t the last blockbuster we’ll see in the works. Looking at the successful people working on this film, we should have high hopes for this adaptation.
Sucker Punch’s legacy will hopefully continue for years, as we have yet to see a sequel announced. This record-breaking IP and Jin Sakai’s story has a plethora of possibilities. Sadly, we’ll probably have to wait a while for further information on this film. For now, play Ghost of Tsushima‘s new multiplayer mode, Legends!
