The previous holder of this record was Horizon Zero Dawn, having sold 2.6 million copies in its first two weeks. This may seem like a huge gap, but debuting a brand new IP is a difficult task. The team at Guerilla Games themselves were quite surprised by the love received from audiences.
The same goes for Ghost of Tsushima. The Sucker Punch official Twitter account stated this in a reply to Sony’s tweet,
We are so appreciative of everyone who contributed to such an amazing launch for #GhostOfTsushima! Thank you to all of you who have played so far – it means the world to us!
This action-adventure samurai game received an 83% on Metacritic, and high praise from players around the globe. This proves how worthy the team of developers is to have received this record. These sales may even push them to continue Jin’s journey in a future sequel.
We congratulate the team at Sucker Punch for their amazing achievement!
