What better way to encapsulate a Microsoft E3 conference then to re-introduce the character that paved the way for the company?
With their recent presentation, Microsoft unveiled a new cinematic trailer for the upcoming Halo Infinite, the sixth mainline game from the Halo franchise. In it, one is shown an air of defeat, a situation so grim that none would think it could be overturned. However, on the verge of submission, Master Chief is once again brought in to serve as the sole beacon of hope.

With the departure of Bungie, the Halo franchise’s original developer, in 2010, 343 Industries has stepped in as the lead developer of the franchise. In the span since then, multiple Halo spin-off games and remasters have been produced in-between mainline releases. Despite continued success, 343 Industries has never quite topped fan expectations prompted by the original trilogy of games.
Halo Infinite is scheduled to release during the holiday season in 2020, so fans will have a while longer to wait. However, the trailer may give hope to those who felt Bungie’s departure gave way to a fall in the franchise’s quality. Various nods to the franchise’s history and impact are noteworthy throughout the trailer.
