Shinji Hashimoto, brand manager of the Final Fantasy series, discussed the possibility of a Final Fantasy X-3 and Final Fantasy XVI during the Lucca Comics & Games 2016 convention in Italy on November 1.
In terms of the next numbered sequel to the main series, Hashimoto said that publisher Square Enix has not made anything for the game yet, but suggested that Final Fantasy XV's modern-styled aesthetic may not necessarily translate to XVI. Nothing is set in stone, he stated, in regards to both style and gameplay.
The man struck a similar note for Final Fantasy X-3, acknowledging that the Final Fantasy X -Will- audio drama included in Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster has a story set after Final Fantasy X-2, but mentioning that director Tetsuya Nomura and producer Yoshinori Kitase are both working on Final Fantasy VII Remake and Kingdom Hearts III now, leaving the sequel out of the realm of possibility at the moment.
He closed his remarks by stating that Square Enix will "only focus on those projects it's already announced."
