According to FF XV director Hajime Tabata, the one button strategy is not going to be possible in the game. If you will hold down the guard button, you could easily auto-guard and evade. But it will consume MP so you can't do it endlessly. You must think about timing of attacks and evades. And what's more there are attacks that you cannot avoid and hurt you.
