After years of watching from above, she has arrived. In this SMITE Nut build guide, you’ll learn what builds to use for the Goddess of the Sky and how her unique skills work. Nut is an ability and basic attack-based hunter who offers burst AoE damage, great team-fight contribution and a high potential for outplaying opponents. Understanding the various aspects of Nut’s skillset is crucial to taking full advantage of this Goddess.
In this SMITE Nut build guide, I’ll be going through her abilities, playstyle tips and best build items. We’ll start by going through her basics, and then further below we’ll get into the builds themselves. So, let’s dive in.
Abilities
Nut is an ability-based hunter who relies on using her basic attacks and her damaging skills cohesively. Accompanied by a water pot, she uses this as a portal to reach into the heavens and fire starry projectiles from her grasp. As the Goddess of the Sky, Nut uses her celestial power to protect those she keeps closest.
Note: The below descriptions are taken from the game itself. The tips below these descriptions were written by me.
Passive: Flux
When Nut hits an enemy god with a damaging ability, she gains a stacking Attack Speed Buff for 5s. Nut may gain multiple stacks from a single ability.
- Attack speed buff: 2% + 0.1% per level
- Max stacks: 10
While Nut’s main damage output does not come from her basic attacks like many hunters, Flux allows for great synergy with her first ability, Convergence. Flux is a passive that you likely won’t notice, and you don’t need to keep track of it either. This ability is more of a tool to enhance Convergence than anything.
Ability 1: Convergence
Nut enhances her Basic Attacks, firing 2 additional damaging projectiles from her sides at a converging angle. All projectiles pierce enemies but not walls. The centre projectile deals Basic Attack damage and the sides deal ability damage. Nut always shoots at least once, but may fire up to an additional 4 shots by gaining stacks when damaging enemies with Basic Attacks. She gains 2 stacks for damaging enemy gods and may cancel this ability to refund unused shots as stacks.
- Centre damage reduction: 55/50/45/40/35%
- Side damage: 3/7/11/15/19
- Stacks per shot: 4
As her main source of damage, Convergence is Nut’s most crucial ability to use. Build your stacks by attacking enemy minions (1 stack per hit) and Gods (2 stacks per hit) up to a maximum of 16 stacks. Once stacks have been collected, Convergence will have up to five shots. Using Nut’s third ability, Warp resets Convergence’s cooldown. This means you can collect stacks, fire five times, use Warp to reset the cooldown, and collect stacks quickly again to fire five more shots of Convergence.
Ability 2: Crashing Comet
Nut calls down a comet from the sky which crashes in a circular area dealing damage. After it lands, it sends out a damaging shockwave in a larger area. Enemies hit by the comet take a second instance of damage and are Rooted, while enemies in the shockwave are Trembled.
- Damage: 35/55/75/95/115
- Root: 0.9/1/1.1/1.2/1.3s
- Tremble: 0.25%
This ability deals low damage, but its main value is in its Crowd Control. Nut can Root enemies to allow her and her allies to attack with better precision. The tremble effect also gives her the upper hand of control, especially in 1v1 situations. Use this ability to engage at opportune moments to Root enemies or defensively while retreating. It’s a weaker part of her kit right now, but it has its moments of value. Nut, in SMITE, can build up towards victory with quick thinking when using this ability.
Ability 3: Warp
Nut warps in the direction she is currently travelling. After she warps, she automatically fires 3 homing projectiles that spread out among nearby enemies, prioritising Gods. These projectiles deal damage and apply a stacking Slow to enemies. additionally, Nut resets the cooldown of Convergence after using this ability.
- Damage: 15/25/35/45/55
- Slow: 10%
Warp is a great tool for dodging enemy attacks, creating a little bit of distance, or resetting the cooldown of Convergence. These are its three best uses, and you want to ensure that if you’re using it aggressively, you’re doing it for high reward, and with a backup plan. Notably, Warp does not allow Nut to travel through walls, and attempting to do so will Warp her in the exact spot she’s standing and send out her projectiles to nearby enemies as normal.
Ultimate: Skyfall
Nut becomes Crowd Control immune and gathers all her energy, flying high into the air and becoming untargetable for 3s. Nut may then move and aim before firing a massive black hole toward the battleground that lands after a short delay, dealing damage to all enemies. After the black hole lands, a gravity surge extends outward, damaging and pulling all enemies toward the centre. Nut then lands, returning to her initial location.
- Initial damage: 200/260/320//380/440
- Surge damage: 80/100/120/140/160
Nut’s ultimate ability should be used with a focus on its Crowd Control potential; it can be used effectively in team fight situations. Pulling enemies together will allow her to set up combos with her allies for devastating attacks. Alternatively, its high damage potential allows her to deal the killing blow on enemies who may be fleeing. It can also be used to avoid an intense Crowd Control ability. Ensure to use this carefully, though. As after firing, you return to your initial location, enemies can easily predict your landing and may take the opportunity to attack. Try to use Skyfall in a safe location.
Build Guide
As an ability-focused hunter, Nut wants to focus equally on building power and attack speed to get the most out of her kit. As Convergence is her main source of damage, and the primary projectile in this attack uses Basic Attack damage, items that apply effects to Basic Attacks are great to consider. In SMITE, a good Nut build will allow her to burst down targets using her combos.
Note that the table below uses item names at their maxed-out tiers rather than their starting tiers. Out of the below, you can mix & match six items depending on your playstyle and personal preferences. For a balanced build, it would be best to select items from multiple sections to put together in a build, rather than all from the same section. Feel free to find out more about the items from the below table on SMITE‘s official website.
Starter | Core | Standard | Alternative |
Corrupted Bluestone | Transcendence | The Crusher | Ferocious Executioner |
Bluestone Brooch | Jotunn’s Cunning | Fail-Not | Demon Blade |
Leader’s Cowl | Qin’s Sais | Dominance | Crimson Claws |
Devourer’s Gauntlet | Devoted Deathbringer | Melicious Deathbringer | |
Heartseeker | Griffonwing Earrings |
Items such as Jotunn’s Cunning and Dominance will lead to builds with high damage output. You’ll want to balance this with some attack speed with Qin’s Sais or Demon Blade to help build Convergence stacks. The latter item also opens up the door for critical strikes on Convergence. Crimson Claws will allow you to create a build with lifesteal, if that’s your thing. In this SMITE Nut build, I’ll always emphasise building around how you want Convergence to feel and what effects it could have. This is crucial to success with Nut. Play around, and see what works for you, the above items could merely be your starting point.
So, now that we have our items, let’s take a look at some examples of the best Nut builds right now for the Goddess of the Sky. Below are two examples that prioritise using different aspects of Nut’s potential.
Nut Build #1 – Big Burst
Bluestone Brooch | Transcendence | Jotunn’s Cunning | Fail-Not | Qin’s Sais | Dominance |
With this build, the aim is to hit hard for huge burst damage. You’ll definitely have some fun with this build, taking advantage of its high damage numbers, its Mana boost and its Penetration value. This versatile build can be used casually in Arena or while playing ADC in Conquest.
Nut Build #2 – Crit-steal Galore
Leader’s Cowl | Devourer’s Gauntlet | Demon Blade | The Crusher | Heartseeker | Crimson Claws |
In our second build, you’ll be enjoying the benefits of both Critical Hits and Lifesteal with some added attack speed boosts, too. This will add a little more sustain to the Goddess of the Sky. Anyone who enjoys a good mix of Crits and Lifesteal will appreciate this one; it’s more of a fun build to take into Arena or Joust.
Skill Priority
So, now we’ve been over how Nut’s kit functions, and we’ve discussed how to build Nut effectively. Which skills, though, should you prioritise when deciding which one to increase after every level up? See below which levels I’d recommend upgrading each ability:
- Convergence – 1, 4, 6, 7, 10
- Crashing Comet – 2, 8, 11, 12 14
- Skyfall – 3, 15, 16, 18, 19
- Warp – 5, 9, 13, 17, 20
As previously established, Convergence is Nut’s main source of damage. You want to level up Convergence as your main priority, maximising its potential as early as possible. This allows Nut to effectively clear waves and chip away at enemy health. From here, Crashing Comet will be your secondary focus, helping you to secure kills in combination with Convergence and provide Crowd Control where necessary.
Skyfall, Nut’s Ultimate, will be largely impactful in team fights. At every chance to increase the level of Skyfall, make sure to do so. While the CC is great, upgrading Skyfall will increase its overall damage potential.
Warp is important, but not as important as the rest. Warp will be the lowest priority; it’s best to upgrade this in the later stages of any given match and allow your damaging abilities to speak for themselves earlier on.
Playstyle & Tips
Nut excels when battling alongside allies. You should use Crashing Comet to pin enemies in place to begin combos with allies. If you’re playing Conquest, you’ll likely be playing Nut in the ADC role, meaning your Support can help you to follow up with any good Roots. Sometimes it may be best to wait for your Support to attack first with a hard crowd-control ability, and Crashing Comet can be your follow-up. With Nut in SMITE, a good build will set your damage apart from the rest.
Convergence, in the early game, will chip away at enemy health and kill minions, but during the mid-to-late game, it will become a bursting force to be reckoned with. It also goes without saying to remember where to position as Nut. Ensure to stay in the backline, behind your Warrior and Guardian (or Solo and Support in Conquest) while focusing on dealing damage to high-threat targets. You can’t go wrong as long as you use your Warp strategically and look for great moments to utilise Skyfall to its full potential.
As Lady of the Lore, Nut has been a highly anticipated God release. Now that she’s finally in the game, the next thing on everyone’s minds is SMITE 2, with more news on the upcoming sequel soon.
