SMITE Season 9 is on the horizon. Bringing a new battle pass, Gods, adjustments to all game modes, relics, and other items. This is one huge patch, as is custom for a new season. As shown during the Hi-Rez showcase, some of the biggest parts of this update revealed the new game mode Slash and the Hindu God Shiva in a brand-new cinematic trailer.
New Game Mode: Slash
In Season 9, we will be bidding farewell to two significant game modes. Clash and Siege are being removed. Fret not, however, as they are being combined to create a brand new one altogether. Slash merges to give us the best of both worlds. Bringing Mayan mythology from the Siege map and Egyptian mythology from the Clash map together to create something new out of something old.
There are sure to be some players who are less excited about these changes, due to the individual game modes being seemingly permanently removed. However, the larger player base overall favoured these modes significantly less than Conquest, Arena, and Joust. It was only a matter of time until something like this happened.
New God Line-Up
As always, new characters will be revealed in the coming months. The first of these is the God Shiva, The Destroyer. A long-awaited character on the battleground. Shiva is a very prominent figure in Hindu mythology, being the third god in the Hindu triumvirate. As for the rest of the Gods, the 2022 God Line-Up teaser hints towards who we’ll be seeing, but there are no confirmations just yet, merely speculations. For now, players can use this time to get used to Atlas being on the roster.
Reworks and Balancing
There is a huge amount of balancing changes. From God adjustments to item removals, there’s way too much to list here. Instead, you can read the Season 9 patch notes on the SMITE website. The most significant changes have to be the reworks and upgrades to relics as well as the all-new glyph items. Relics will now have a tier-three upgrade as well as a choice as to which version of the tier-three relic you wish to purchase. Glyphs on the other hand are brand new tier-four items available as upgrades to some tier three items that have unique effects.
As always, a bunch of new skins is coming with these updates including an entire base remodel for Apollo, the Greek God of music. Somewhere down the line, it’s likely that his old default skin will become available for purchase as with other remodeled Gods and Goddesses.
That just about wraps it up. Are you looking forward to SMITE Season 9? Let us know down below in the comments. If you haven’t already downloaded the game, it’s entirely free, available on all major platforms now.
