Overwatch 2 has revealed the next Hero joining the roster in Season 2 next month.

During the Overwatch League Finals, Blizzard shared a glimpse at the next upcoming Tank joining the Overwatch roster in season 2. Many believed that the next Hero would be the character Mauga, but that wasn’t the case.

Instead, the next hero joining Overwatch 2 is Ramattra, an Omnic from the faction Null Sector. For his reveal, we got a short origin video showcasing his voice, backstory and appearance. An additional blog post about his reveal was posted soon after on the Overwatch official website

According to the biography given on the Overwatch website, Ramattra was once a war machine. It is said that he ‘shed his munitions for a shield to protect his people by promoting peace and tranquillity.’ However, Ramattra’s life was one of trauma and hardship. After witnessing the treatment of his fellow Omnics worsen, he began to approach matters from a more drastic angle.

Now, Ramattra is the leader of the Null Sector. This group has made several appearances in the Overwatch universe (and even has some representation through some in-game skins). The harmony he once sought has been stripped back to discord. Now, Ramattra is resolute, determined and ready to share his philosophies with the world – no matter what it takes.

While we have only gotten a brief look at him here, it appears that a lot of Ramattra’s character traits and mannerisms will be a mirror to the wise Omnic monk, Zenyatta. This is something that is even bought up in his biography. They once shared similar beliefs but now they have gone down separate paths.

As for his abilities, there are only a few hints. He has swapped his ‘munitions for a shield’, which will likely be manifested in his role as Tank. Other than that, his weapon of choice appears to be a staff of some sort, with an orb similar to Zenyatta’s at its centre. Whether this means that he will play similarly (with the ability to debuff similar to Discordance or if he will fling similar projectiles to Zen) is unknown.

Whatever the case may be, Blizzard has teased that more information will drop on Ramattra in the coming weeks. Ramattra will join Overwatch 2 on December 6th alongside the release of Season 2.

EDIT: Some additional information about how Ramattra plays has been shared following his reveal. The majority of this new information has come from an interview by GamerBraves with some of the artists on the Overwatch team.

They revealed that he is going to be a stance change Tank with two forms. One form is called his Omnic Form, where Ramattra will wield his cane and protect his teammates. The other is his Nemesis Form, a more menacing stance where Ramattra will prefer to beat down his foes personally. They also mention that there will be some skill and decision-making when it comes to how and when to best switch forms.

In terms of dealing with damage, Ramattra has two ways. In Omnic Form his staff will shoot out a series of projectiles in a stream, while his Nemesis Form will get up close with punches. It is also mentioned that his Ultimate ability will be the same between the two states. It will switch him to Nemesis mode if Ramattra isn’t already in that stance, however.

As for how tanky he is and how much survivability he has (when comparing him to other Tank Heroes) he is said to be ‘right around the middle.’

Ramattra looks interesting and seems to be part of Zenyatta’s lore, which will be intriguing to see. Hoping that this omnic shakes up the meta a little!
